Torreon is a gated golf community developed by Desert Troon to accomodate the Phoenix (3 hour drive)and Tucson people (4 hour drive)looking for cooler summer temperatures. It is Arizona, sunny 350 days a year but here in the White Mountains (6,500 ft elevation) we rejoice in summer temperatures rarely reaching the 90's. With no humidity or no bugs, it is the best weather in the United States!
We know the importance of your 4 legged family member so we are pet-friendly, but beware Torreon does not allow fences so there is no containment.
The garage holds 2 cars and car rental & adult bikes are available. Great trails abound in surrounding state forests or walk and bike within the gated community. 5 minute WALKING distance to Clubhouse, Family Center, tennis, pool, hot tub, basketball, sand volleyball, fishing and Fitness Center. Two world class 18 Troon Golf courses, great restaurant & bar on site. There are riding trails behind Torreon on state lands, horse boarding facilities or arena and group horseback riding lessions.

We lived in Fountain Hills AZ for three years and drove to the White Mountains (2 1/2 hours) for respite from the summer heat. We fell in love with the mountain views, the cool temperatures, 4 seasons and all the outdoor activities. After living abroad for 20 years, we found our place of peace in the White Mountains and built our dream loghome. The four of us and dog Jack live in this loghome year round except for the summer and 2 weeks around Christmas when we travel.
Stacey Ruggaard purchased this lodge in 2006

What can we say? Wow! We have spent the last 10 years at different locations and this rates as one of the best. Lots of games of ping pong and pool and nights at the dining table playing games, made it a week we won't soon forget. Grandma's most favorite part: she has all her boys and grandkids together for the first time in years. Altogether we could not have picked a better place to spend this Christmas season. Plenty of room to get away and to get together! Snow appeared on Christmas Eve and the kids saw Santa Clause putting gifts under the tree and to say the least, all our wishes and dreams came true this Christmas 2012.
We really enjoyed our stay in this large and luxurious "log" cabin over New Year's weekend! Everything we needed was provided and all of our needs were met. I would highly recommend for families and large groups of friends... lots space within the home to find your own private time.
My family and friends staid here over the thanksgiving weekend. The home is gorgeous and decorated with lots of antiques. Probably not the best space for toddlers, but is just fine for older children. The view from the back patio overlooking the forest is spectacular. Stargazing at night with a cup of hot chocolate and the kids was wonderful. It's a great place for a nice & quiet getaway.
My family, friends and I rented this spectacular home for the Labor Day Weekend. From the moment we arrived we all were totally blown away by the beauty of this home. The house has an amazing deck that overlooks pine trees. The views of the starry sky are breathtaking. Stacey has an "eclectic style" that is warm and inviting. Each room is decorated beautifully and NOTHING is missing. The home is very spacious for large groups. The Theatre Room and Game Room were the favorites with the kids. The Xbox was a VERY nice touch for everyone.
The kitchen is a "Chef's Dream." NOTHING is missing and the "Kitchen Pantry" is spectacular. We were able to cook every night at home and had everything that we needed.
Stacey treats her guests as though they are family. We will definitely return to this home in the winter as I am sure the views will be amazing.
Thank you for making our Labor Day the Best EVER!!!!!
Stacey, I do want to thank you for one of my most relaxing weeks ever. We took
cool walks along the quiet, wooded Torreon streets. I took several bike
rides along a rolling loop route through the community. We worked out in the well-equipped gym at the Torreon club and I swam some laps in the sparkling heated pool. We played bridge twice with the group at the nearby Venture In and came in a respectable third against 10 capable partnerships on Friday. Every day we woke up with fresh brewed
coffee on the cool deck, sometimes getting buzzed by angry hummingbirds if
we got too close to their feeder. The coffee tasted better than at home probably because of the local tap water quality. My wife loved cooking in the kitchen and
found it fully stocked with all the utensils and condiments she needed. We
barbecued shrimp one night and steaks another night on the gas grill
outside. We did dine out at Salt (salmon x 2, superb service), the Grill
at the club, and lunches at Persnickitty's (delicious sweet potato fries),
and Torreon's Cabin (average food but attentive service). Sari loved the two
scented steam showers she took in the Hong Kong bedroom. The furniture was
comfy and the eclectic decorations were all interesting to investigate and admire.
We didn't need air conditioning because the daily afternoon storms kept
the temperatures down. The upper floor was uncomfortably warm but we never used the air conditioner because the open windows let in the fresh mountain air. We kept the unused bedrooms closed, except for the main bedroom, so our cats didn't roam around freely in them. However the cats loved going up and down the stairs and often laid on the open risers so they could get an elevated view of the main floor or napped in the dog's bed (don't tell him). The basement was cool. I browsed the internet and did email on my
laptop there and watched a movie in the media room.
We had such a wonderful experience that we plan to return next summer.
Great home! Had everything but the AC.. This was a 50th Birthday celebration for two people so we had 2 families up in the pines :). The home was awesome and had everything you could want. We will be back!
We came up to Show Low and rented this gorgeous home to compete in the local triathlon. The house was fully stocked with everything we could have needed. It's clean, beautiful, and spacious. We were able to cook all of our meals and relax on the patio. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our group. What an awesome find; I highly recommend renting from Stacey and her family!!
Torreon Family Center has free video games, activities, supervised during the day, basketball court and sand volley ball and is a 5 minute WALK from home. The Torreon Cabin is the second, more rustic restaurant on the golf course. In the winter Sunrise Ski resort is a 45 minute drive with manmade snow froomed ski slopes and snowmobiling options.
