Second master has large sitting area and shares large bath with the 3rd bedroom. Second master has ample room for blow-up mattress or sleeping bags for additional sleeping. TV's in both master's and DVD/VCR in living room.

Owners first visited this area in the 1960's, when there was little more than a grocery store, a restaurant, and a service station. Our children always loved to visit their grandparents who had moved to Gulf Shores. Now we live on the island on a part-time basis and two of our children have realized their dream of living in the area permanently.

We have watched the area grow over the years and are very familiar with the restaurants the locals frequent and other amenities the island has to offer. We can recommend the best captains around for a great day of all types of fishing.

We have visited beaches all over the United States, including Hawaii, and have found none more beautiful than the best-kept secret on the Gulf -- the beautiful Alabama beaches!

Great getaway!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Walker Key. We were looking for a quiet place to enjoy the beach, Terry Cove area and be near some of our favorite restaurants. Even though we did not plan on doing any cooking, the owners have a well stocked kitchen and a very comfortable condo. We almost had the complex to ourselves and enjoyed sitting underneath the gazebo and poolside watching the boats and enjoying the water. They were very helpful and easy to work with and we appreciate being able to take our small dog with us. We look forward to another visit!

We absolutely LOVED our stay at The Grand Slam!! The unit was perfect for our family of 6 plus our furry friend. My first thought when I walked in the door was finally!!! A vacation I will not have to clean on. The unit was very clean, spacious, and well stocked with everything you could possibly need. If you are looking for a place to stay away from the hustle and bustle and yet have the option of fishing and walking directly out to your boat , this is the place!!! I can not say enough about Ilene and Jerry, they are by far the nicest people I have ever rented from. This is our new place to stay

2013 Summer Vacation

Our stay was very enjoyable and the owners were very helpful throughout the entire process. We stay at the beach very often, living as close as we do, and this location is one of my new favorites. There was never a crowd around the pools, easy access to restaurants, convenience store right across the street, and it was so nice to have the wet slip for the boat. We were able to hop in the boat and be at Robinson island in seconds. My one complaint is that the unit was slightly more dilapidated than I expected from the pictures. It was not horrible by any means, but the unit could use new carpet (or a thorough cleaning), touch-up paint, and some updating of furniture. The cleaning prior to our arrival was also not as up to par as I would have expected.

End result is I would highly recommend Walker Key and give this unit a "good" review....where some minor updating and better cleaning would increase to excellent.

Owner's Response: While we certainly welcome all guest reviews, we have to admit that we are disappointed to receive our first review of less than 5 stars in our third year of renting. We certainly want to hear any concerns from our guests or input about what we can furnish in the condo that they feel they would like or could use on their visit to what we strive to make their Home away from Home on this beautiful island, and we have responded to the few requests we have received by adding the requested items. We always furnish three phone numbers so our guests can reach us if they have any concerns, or just want a restaurant recommendation, during their visit. However, it's impossible to respond if you are not aware of the concern. We certainly don't want to be too defensive on this matter, but feel we should note that we have a very quick turn-around of the unit during the summer months -- and it is often even quicker because of guests, especially the ones who live close by, wanting to get into the unit earlier than the check-in time, which we try to accommodate if at all possible. We have to have the carpet cleaned prior to the beginning of the season, and after that we have to do spot cleaning until we have the necessary time to call in a professional cleaner. We do always strive to make sure the other cleaning is thorough. As far as the unit not being as depicted, the only change has been in comforters which had to be replaced but these were actually an upgrade. On this, we would simply refer future guests to our other reviews.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that fall and winter are also beautiful times to visit, and the rates will certainly please you. We have hosted many families -- as well as their
four-legged family members -- who have gotten together for reunions, and also many fishing parties. The unit is located directly on the bay, and your boat is right below the balcony. We urge you to visit with us and make wonderful memories of your special time with family and friends that you will carry with you for a lifetime.

The unit was exactly as described. Boat slip in front was great. The pontoon was very near. Via boat we had access to all the locations in the back bay area. Many places were within easy driving distance by road as well. The unit was nice, comfortable and had all the amenities we required. The owners were very helpful during the booking process and were able to give info during our stay as well. Very nice folks. I have already recommended the unit to friends and family. Looking forward to staying here again when possible.

Grand Slam is a special place

I spent ALOT of time researching condos in the area for our fall 2012 trip. Ilene answered my (millions) of questions about the Grand Slam with lots of patience, enthusiasm and insight. She genuinely seemed excited for our family to spend time at their condo. She was a wealth of information about the area! We had never visited Alabama before...so we appreciated the time she took to make sure we were informed. The condo itself is located right on the water in Walker Key. We spent lots of time fishing right out front! There is boat access for renters of the condo too. While we didn't have a boat during the trip, I can see how the condo and boat dock would be a HUGE benefit to anyone renting the condo. The boat dock was clearly marked and easily accessible. Makes me wish we rented a boat for the week! The 2 pools were well maintained and clean. The kids enjoyed swimming even on the cooler days. One of the pools is right by the water so I was able to watch the little kids swim while my husband and older son fished right there. The condo was spacious and filled with comfy furniture and amenities. All of the bedrooms were spacious with beautiful views. The master bathroom has a large jetted tub overlooking the water. We slept with the windows open in the master bedroom and could hear the water lapping all night (that was wonderful!) The bedrooms are all upstairs together but didn't feel like they were on top of eachother. You could easily stay with another couple or family and have privacy. The kitchen, dining room and living room were pretty open to eachother. Which meant that everyone got to enjoy eachother while cooking. The deck was a nice space to sit and enjoy the boats, palm trees and water. The unit has WiFi that was quick and easy to access. The kitchen was loaded with things that you don't typically find in a vacation rental...including a crockpot! Which made the cooks job even easier! The beach, Pier, shopping, restaurants and even the dog park are all close by. The location was excellent! The trip was wonderful! Thank you Ilene and Jerry for making it stressfree and relaxing. You really went out of your way to make sure it was everything we envisioned. We hope to visit again someday...it was really sad to leave. The condo really felt like home away from home. And both of you really feel like friends :) Thanks for everything!
