I moved to Bocas del Toro in 2005 formally from Southern California. I have been renting my apartments out since completion of construction in 2006. I enjoy meeting all of the people from foreign lands and being able to show them the beauties of this lovely island archipelago.
Sandi Hodge purchased this apartment in 2005
When staying here you are far enough from town for the peace and quiet that is offered in the lush green rainforest surroundings but just steps from one of Bocas Town's most popular beaches - Big Creek. Staying in these luxurious apartments you are only 2.5 miles from town which makes for an easy commute to restaurants and nightlife. I love being in the middle of the rainforest but being able to walk out to the beach, ride my bike to other nearby beaches and it's a great launch point for tours to other islands and wildlife.
Quiet, secluded peaceful surroundings. Used as a home base it is perfect for all of your excursions. While sitting on the patio you can enjoy watching the many varieties of birds and listening to the wonderful activities of the animals living near by.
This place has all the amenities you could want in Bocas del Toro. The spacious home has two private units on the ground level with a shared patio. The open, modern floor plan was clean and spacious with a full kitchen as well as access to a washer and dryer. We enjoyed the location, which is centered between town (2 miles) and beach bluff. Although bicycles were available, we rented an ATV down the street, which was reasonably priced, making it easy to get around in both day and evenings. Sandi was a gracious host—friendly and welcoming but not intrusive. She has dogs for protection, as do most people owning property in Bocas. We enjoyed occasional cocktails on Sandi’s upper patio, and she helped us arrange several tours, which were highlights of our trip. We enjoyed the jungle feel of the area, including the howler monkeys, without giving up modern amenities.
AMAZING!! Sandi is the best! Her place is beautiful, clean and a true paradise. Her gardens are enchanting and her place is a great place to relax or a quick $2 -$5 taxi to town. Her apartment was spotless and plenty of room for a family or couples get away. We are looking to book again in 6 months won't stay anywhere else! This is a true GEM!!
Coming back next year for sure, treated excellent. Sandi has lovely grounds and always had our wake up calls with the howlers and oropendolas.
We stayed four nights and only wish it could have been longer! We highly recommend this property. The house is nice and spacious, has a good kitchen, lots of hang out space with two patios, and much needed (if you plan on getting wet and dirty!) laundry facilities. $4 taxi to town, close to the jungle, down the street from the beach and ATV/kayak/bike rentals. The owner, Sandi, was great! She took good care of us and made sure our short time there was well spent (snorkeling, ATV, chocolate farm...), all her recommendations were excellent. She invited us into her lovely home (upstairs) for a glass of wine and has cool dogs. Friendly, welcoming, fun, and helpful. We'd stay here again even if we had to sleep in the yard.
We stayed at Sandi’s place for 10 days in January 2015. Sandi met us at the Bocas del Toro airport in her Toyota pickup. We stopped for groceries and toured the downtown of Bocas.
The apartment is about two miles out of town and off the road about 100 metres. The door was open to the apartment when we arrived and it was a “wow” moment when we looked inside. There was a large interior space, a well appointed kitchen and the bedroom was large and airy with a large en suite bathroom attached. The apartment was very homey and comfortable. There was a nice gas bbq on the back porch that came in very handy.
We waited at the Panama City airport for 2.5 hours for the plane to come in and fly us to Bocas. The delay was caused by heavy storms. It was an insight into what was to come for the next 6 days. What I failed to do was read the part where it is the rainy season in January. I thought the rainy season ended in November in the Caribbean but Panama has its own little climactic zone. We were quite comfortable on the large porch reading and conversing. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with the beautiful flowers, birds, humming birds and resident dogs. While we wished we were at the beach down the road, chilling on the porch was still better than shoveling snow back home!
We rented some bicycles for a week for $50 each. The ride to town for fresh veggies, groceries and wine was about 20 minutes each way. We had the water on one side and the rainforest on the other. We ate at two restaurants in town. Both were good and a good value for the money. Sandi took us on two excursions, showing us the island. She is very knowledgeable and is well known. We had a lot of fun during our time with her.
When the sun came out, we spent time on the beach at the end of the laneway. There is a dock on the water for the ones who can handle the bright hot sun. There is also shade and a fresh water brook on the beach for those who need a break from the sun. This is a place for surfers – the waves are a delight.
We had a lot of fun getting to know Sandi over a couple of glasses of wine. She is a superb hostess and keeps a very clean property. She arranged a tour guide at the last minute for our last day in Panama City. We spent a fruitful day in the city before catching our plane back to the ice and snow. Sandi emailed us later to say the sun was still out and the weather was beautiful.
Thank you for having us, Sandi.
The description of this property is spot on!! The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and stocked with all amenities one could need. The location is perfect; centrally located with the beach at the end of the lane and town only a mile away. Sandi is a great Hostess. I loved sitting on the patio admiring the beautiful scenery, while listening to the parrots and monkeys in the jungle behind the unit. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Bocas Del Toro.
