ABSOLUTE LUXURY, SPECTACULAR VIEWS, BASE FOR S'WEST TOURS

County Clare House Rental Photos and Description

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Luxurious house, situated two hours from Kerry, one hour from Galway, 40 mins from The Burren, 45 minutes from Shannon Airport and 500m from the beautiful, award winning village of Mountshannon, this property is truly a special find - ideal for touring the southwest of Ireland as well as being just 2.5 hours from Dublin.

The local area is well known for golfing, fishing, hiking and water-sports, and hosts one of the most successful Arts festivals in Ireland. Music is available in local pubs in season, and there are several good restaurants nearby.

The house is an architect designed high quality detached home - set on 1.5 acres , with 180 degree views over Lough Derg and the Tipperary Hills. It is designed to take full advantage of the views, and is a warm home - timber framed with zoned central heating and wood burning stoves . The ceilings are higher than standard, giving a bright airy feel to the home. Accommodation comprises the following:

A large kitchen/living-room/dining-room is at the centre of this home, with southerly aspect, and magnificent views of the lake. This space has a sound system with built in speakers . A three metre square roof window makes this a particularly bright space. The room is adjoined by a living-room with TV - which also has a wood-burning stove. The two bedrooms at the west of the property are en-suite with patios, whilst the two to the east share a Diner-style living-room, with a bathroom. There is also a double bedroom with magnificent views over the lake and mountains.

Outside, there are extensive patio and decked areas - ideal for lounging or dining al fresco. The home is set on 1.5 acres , and has several vegetable plots and a greenhouse which guests are welcome to use in season. Many guests have cancelled touring plans, preferring to use the space for a stay-cation - especially those who are enjoying family reunion visits.

The East Clare way walking route ( easy to moderate) passes by, and the area is a particularly restful place, with forests, bog-land walks and beautiful unspoiled views over the mountains and lake. Attractions include Holy Island - accessible by a short boat trip available from the harbor - it is one of the earliest Monastic settlements in Ireland (500AD).

There are several restaurants and local pubs full of atmosphere and charm.

Access to garden herbs and vegetables (in season) is provided for guests. The calendar is updated regularly, but the property is sometimes provisionally booked by friends/family, so always contact us for cancellations.

Keywords: Large luxurious residence, ideally located for touring West and Southwest. Less than one hour day -trip to southwest destinations, like Galway, The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher

Hiking, cooking, gardening, history, literature, art, music, sailing, cycling and travel are some of our interests.

Mary O'Keeffe purchased this house in 2005

Mountshannon is one of the prettiest villages in Ireland, once won the coveted overall Tidy Towns prize, and always features at the top end of this National competition for beautiful places. Overlooking the harbour, and enjoying a wonderful vista of Lough Derg lake and the Tipperary Hills, the setting is spectacular. Great walking, cycling, sailing, fishing, golf and other leisure activities are available locally. One of the oldest monastic settlements in Ireland is on our doorstep, and the village also has excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants. The white-tailed eagles nest in Bushy Island which is visible from the property, so bring your binoculars to spot this rare bird nesting in Ireland for the first time in 150 years.

Enjoy the spectacular views while enjoying fresh salads from the garden on the patio. Watch the boats come and go in the harbour below the dining area. Walk the East Clare Way in the hills on your doorstep. Take a boat trip to Holy Island and experience 1,500 years of history. Take several day trips to The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, The Alwee Caves, Galway, Bunratty Castle.

FABULOUS 50TH

  • 5 of 5
We celebrated our 50th anniversary in style here with our family of 10. The house was perfect. Exactly as billed - roomy and easy to be in with beautiful views. The yard was a great place for our toddlers to burn off some energy. The owner even brought over a lovely fruit tart one day which we all enjoyed.

The town itself was terrific as well. We enjoyed the sweet little swimming beach, the maze and the labyrinth.Local businesses were wonderful. The Snug provided delicious takeaway pizza and salad for our party of 20 people. Our friends stayed at the Mountshannon Hotel where they were well taken care of. The manager even found a local bakery to make a special event cake for us.

We enjoyed several good day trips from here - Craggaunowen, Doolin cave, a boat trip to the cliffs of Moher, Gort, Galway, Knappogue Castle and Killaloe.

EXCELLENT CHOICE!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of three generations - six adults and four children - met at this beautiful house for a first visit to Ireland and family reunion in late June. The home more than met our expectations! The rental process was efficient and very easy to navigate, and on arrival our hostess was very helpful in giving us all the information we needed concerning the house and things to see and do during our stay.

The children loved having their own space in the diner area, and spent hours playing soccer in the big yard. The adults enjoyed the wonderful views of the lake and mountains from the decks and cooking meals in the evening on the large grill provided. The kitchen and dining area was large enough to seat everyone for family meals and the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable. We all had plenty of room to relax and enjoy our time together.

We made day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, and Bunratty Castle very easily and took the boat trip to Holy Island from Mountshannon Harbor. This warm and welcoming home is the perfect home base for exploring the area. We highly recommend it!

We recently stayed here and could not have been happier. The home is gorgeous, well maintained, having everything you could possibly want during your stay. The views are tremendous. The layout of the home was so well designed and spacious. It is centrally located to so many wonderful places that we just did not want to leave. Our host was wonderful and helpful in every way. We took advantage of the wonderful garden for meals. This place is not to be missed.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for a lovely review. The local village just won the Silver award ( having previously won gold - they spread it around!) in the Irish Tidy Towns Competition. It is a magical place, and we simply love having the facility for lots of people to base themselves here and have a great time. Hope to see you back soon again.

FANTASTIC VENUE FOR A FAMILY BREAK

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in the house in July 2013, 4 adults and 5 children age 10mths to 10 yrs. The house is absolutely fantastic both inside and outside as it is so spacious and has everything you could possibly need for your stay. The house is extremely well laid out with a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area which accommodated us all easily. The panoramic views from the house were amazing and the open plan living area opening out to the patio gave a lovely light and airy feel to the house. As stated in other reviews the photos on the website do not do it justice. The bedrooms were all a good size with plenty of storage space and some lovely views with some opening out on to the patio area.
The kids had lots of space to run around safely outside plus they had their own separate television and games room inside which was ideal. There were lots of books both for adults and children and a vast array of music to suit any tastes.

The decking area and patio with BBQ were superb and as we were there during the heat wave we were able to eat outside every day – including breakfast! We were able to prepare fresh salads from the garden every day which were delicious. Kids were delighted to see the hare running around the garden every day as well and claimed the huge rock as their own personal monument.

We had plenty of days hanging around the house relaxing and enjoying the area. We also did day trips to Bunratty Castle and folk park, along with Limerick and Ennis which were all within easy travelling distance. We also visited the Cliffs of Moher which were breathtaking, it was a beautiful day so could see for miles every direction which is unusual! We also did a lovely boat trip at the Cliffs of Moher and saw the dolphin in the harbor. With the heat wave we also went into the water at MountShannon at the harbor where there are life guards and also discovered at the caravan park just outside the village that we could hire kajaks which the boys thoroughly enjoyed. Nearby Killaloe also has an outdoor activity centre and swimming area.

We walked to the village regularly and ate out in the pizzeria a number of times which was delicious and also went to the local pubs.
The house has everything you could possibly need during your stay our host was lovely to meet and get to know. We had a lovely welcome pack including coffee and freshly made carrot cake and she was very considerate and helpful to any queries or requests.

HOUSE IS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE MOVIES, AND A GREAT BASE FOR SEEING THE WEST!

  • 5 of 5
We - all ten of us - stayed at this fantastic house in September 2012. It is difficult to exaggerate just how nice the space was for a family get-together. Firstly, the view is something - and it is visible from all the living area, and some of the bedrooms. The photos do not do it justice at all. Stunning to sit and watch the sun rise over the lake and the hills.

The house is well laid out, with the living area at the centre and the bedrooms in separate areas - one space for the teenagers ( but the rooms could equally suit a couple with small children), one great room with stunning views, and two others - all with their own charm and privacy and some with access to the deck to enjoy breakfast there. The house is well equipped - generous amounts of plates and cups, knives and forks, even a knife sharpener which we have never seen in a rental home before. The living space is suitable for many more than ten people - more like a small hotel, especially with the deck extending it. The barbeque could have catered for much more too - everything about this place was generous.

The village at the bottom of the hill was cute. We ate out in the village twice - once in the pizzeria/wine bar and once in the restaurant in the centre of the village. Both were great experiences. We ordered takeaway pizza also and that worked well with the garden salads we prepared ourselves.

We planned to do a lot of day trips, and did about half because we just liked hanging around the house. The Cliffs of Moher cruise was something we will never forget, and we also enjoyed an evening at a nearby village with great music and dinner. Some of our party played golf locally, and some went on a fishing trip and visited a monastic Island. We had a day in Galway and the teenagers also loved Lahinch for surfing. Overall, we were more than happy with our trip -our family are determined to do this again -it was just awesome.

Recently, our group of 9 friends and family had the good fortune to stay is this lovely and restful property. Not only was the home and surroundings beautiful, our "hostess" was helpful, friendly, and a real pleasure to get to know. Hopefully, we will be able to return some day for more wonderful Irish memories.

The property is ideally located for touring the south-west of Ireland. Day trips to The Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castle, The Burren, golf and surfing at Laninch, Galway and Connemara are all within easy reach. Locally, there are boats for hire to explore the lake, and boat trips to the earliest monastic settlement at Holy Island. There are several parks and walking routes, and a children's playground. There is also horse-riding, music and great pubs and restaurants. There is a great fishing service with fully equipped boats - and the area is renowned for pike fishing (Sept- March).
