Safe Harbor is a romantic bayside getaway the perfect place to spend your summer vacation! If you're an early riser make a cup of coffee and go out on the deck to watch the sunrise, WOW!. Southwest Harbor is a working harbor, watch the lobster boats heading out for the day to bring in their daily catch. Better yet, admire the fabulous traveling yachts that are docked next door at the full service marina. From your lounge chair, you and your special someone can view the whole harbor and the outside islands such as Little Cranberry and Sutton Island. Need a break from the fast lane? No need to set foot in your car, most area restaurants, shopping, sightseeing, galleries, etc. are within a 4 min. walk or if you'd like to go further jump on the free Acadia shuttle bus. While in SWH enjoy the quaint little village, explore Sawyer's Market for fresh local ingredients, or have a cup of coffee and a danish at Little Knotch bakery, or have a hearty breakfast at Sips coffee shop. Rent bikes at Southwest Cycle and explore the quietside of the island. There are a couple businesses which offer kayak rentals/tours. Go down to the marina next door and book a sunset boat tour just for the two of you, or order a few lobsters to cook on your own for a cozy night in! Echo Lake is only a 5 min. drive and offers something for everyone! Swimming at the beach, or jumping off of the cliffs, and plenty of hiking for beginners to advanced. How about an outing to Bass Harbor Head light, also 5 mins. away, but make time to stop at Seawall, esp. on windy days, or a walk around Ship's Harbor. After going to the Lighthouse saunter into Bass harbor, for lunch or go on the ferry to Swan's island. SWH is surrounded by many off the beaten path jewels of Acadia National Park, and they're all free! Want to spend some time hitting the popular sights? Bar Harbor, and most of the popular sights such as Sand Beach, Thunderhole, and Jordan Pond house are within a 20 min drive. We do supply the house with hiking/biking guides so that you can research before you head out. Don't miss tea & popovers at Jordan Pond House!

We're a professional couple with grown children, we are just counting down the days before we can move down to Southwest Harbor for the whole summer ourselves. Until then we like sharing our fantastic views with those from away.

This cottage was perfect for a week long getaway for my husband and I. It was very clean, comfortable, and loaded with amenities (FYI: no landline phone). The view of the harbor was amazing and the perfect place to watch the sun rise in the mornings. Southwest Harbor is a quiet location to explore Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, etc. We enjoyed dinners at Red Sky and Cafe Drydock, located in SW Harbor, and Thurston's Lobster Pound, located close by in Bernard. We also enjoyed an afternoon kayaking with Maine State Kayak, located right up the street from the cottage. We would certainly stay here again.

Although small, the cottage felt larger and was wonderfully equipped. The view of the harbor from the living room and bedroom were exceptional.
Less than half an hour to downtown Bar Harbor, SWH proved to be a restful change.
The local dining choices, particularly Red Sky and Fiddler's Green were excellent.
Thanks to Christie for the information packet, the bottle of wine and gift basket that awaited us on arrival.

Thank you Christie! This was our first time renting a home on the coast of Maine, what a relief that you have seen to every detail. Coffee, pancakes & real ME syrup, and a great deck overlooking SWH and the outer islands, what a start to every day! The sunrises are great and we just loved walking into town for leisurely coffee and danish at Sips. We really appreciated the smart decor, and thoughtful hiking guides, novels, and DVD's. We'll most definitely be back during the summer season and look forward to seeing a harbor full of boat's!
