The Owner purchased this bungalow in 2000
Travis Heights and the SOCO area is an amazing location close to it all and allows the ability to walk to everything. The neighborhood is eclectic, safe, vibrant, friendly and reflects the true energy of Austin.
The peaceful and private setting is so enjoyable. I so enjoy the upscale but eclectic vintage charm and character of the place and always feel like I am on vacation when I stay at Hillside Hideaway. I truly feel like I have step back in time and removed myself from the hustle and bustle of daily life!! However it is great to know I can take a short walk and be in the middle of it all again in a couple minutes but than escape back to peace once again…
Both the property and Robert's hospitality were wonderful. Recommend this place if you have a well behaved dog you like to travel with as it has a great backyard and is on a quite street. Just a short walk from all the action of SoCo and lots of the neighborhood charm that keeps Austin weird.
Tucked away in a charming neighborhood is this absolute gem. Though it's located just a short, easy walk to all the fun stuff, it really feels like retreat, yet you can walk to the Continental Club in ten minutes or so. It's the best of both worlds really. Freeways and main streets are all easily accessible from here, the neighborhood feels very safe and the neighbors are friendly and quiet. One of them has chickens in the yard (no rooster though, so it's not noisy!), which I thought was super charming.
The house itself was impeccably neat, clean, and comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked and there are a couple of good markets within walking distance should you feel like eating in. It gets fantastic morning light, and there is a place to sit and enjoy your coffee in the backyard. Robert, the owner, is super responsive and accessible to answer questions and make recommendations, he was an absolute pleasure to work with. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Austin. It's so much better than a hotel! You really can't do much better than this traveling as a single person or a couple. I'd definitely stay here again.
i wanted to experience Austin, the true Austin, not just stay there a few days but feel wht it is like to live there. this little house was just perfect. it is only a few blocks, not even 4 blocks, from The Continental Club on South Congress. It is less than a mile from the bat bridge, yet it is nestled in a quaint, quiet, neighborhood with a tree covered little street that feels so safe and beautiful. We woke each morning to sunlight streaming in through the tree branches into a bright and cheery bedroom. The neighborhood chickens strut around the lawn looking for tiny morsels in the grass. Yes chickens! there are four chickens that lice in the neighborhood. they go from house to house and some people feed them bread crumbs. No rooster all hens so no crowing or anything, just another additional quaintness. the house is small but very comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. We ate in more than we thought we would, there is a little courtyard in the back that is clean and beautiful. to sum it up it is a wonderful place to experience authentic Austin. You will love it.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend getaway. We were looking for a guest house close (walking distance) to downtown and found the perfect gem. This little guest house is our favorite place to stay so far, way more private and "homey" than a hotel. The neighborhood is safe and this guest house has a very comfortable bed and nice bathroom along with an amazing back yard to sit and relax. There is a large walk-in closet, washer/dryer along with fridge with basic kitchen supplies. The location is fantastic!! It is in the South Congress (SoCo) area and easily accessible to downtown. Highways are also very accessible for getting to other parts of Austin or into the Hill Country. I would definitely recommend this to others. The owner is very friendly, accommodating and a pleasure to work with. We will definitely be back in the future!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for the second weekend of ACL and it was perfect! The location to South Congress is is great, with lots of great food and shops nearby. The walk to the festival and Downtown was also doable, though we were usually too tired from long days to try it, opting for a quick cab instead. The property itself is wonderful too - there's a great outdoor space in the backyard, and the modern finishes inside make you feel like you're staying in a fancy suite. Robert was great to deal with too, accommodating an early check-in that fit with our travel plans, and forgiving our late check-out after we accidentally overslept! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone going to Austin, and hope to visit again myself in the future!
