There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to enjoy breakfast or toast the sunset. The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola is another of our favorite places for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation: The mild climate, the fresh air, the pounding surf, fine food, long leisurely walks, and beautiful scenery.
Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979
We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.
Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing as the sun sets.
Lorraine, your place is absolutely wonderful with everything we could ever need. I really love the loft. I slept like a baby. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done with the place. You optimized the space very well. We will truly enjoy ourselves. It will be hard to leave. Thank you so much.
We've stayed in this wonderful property several times over the past few years, each experiance improved over the previous visit. What had been a cute funky Capitola cottage has been lovingly and carefully refurbished with attention to detail and comfort. Morning coffee in the hidden garden outside the bedroom was a great way to begin the day. Downtown Capitola is an easy walk along the wonderful sea cliffs. There are always surfers at the point. The photos do not fully show the inside charm of the property but the description is accurate. Lorraine and Virgil are a pleasure to work with, helpful and very responsive. Clam chowder at the end of the Capatola pier is a great inexpensive lunch.
I spent 3 nights here at Pleasure Point. Driving up to it, it was so cute! I stayed there by myself and my 2 dogs and it was perfect. The location was great. I walked down to the cliffs every day to watch the surfers. The bedroom/ living room combo area was really nice. The bed was very comfortable, and the sectional couch was a nice leather couch. The kitchen and dining area had everything I needed. The bathroom was small, but it was sufficient for my needs. Then there was a little fenced in courtyard in the back of the house where the dogs could hang out with a bar b que and patio set. It was very nice for a single person or couple, but would be crowded with any more people. Any time I come to Santa Cruz by myself I would love to stay there. For the money, this cabin is definitely worth it.
My husband and I spent our spring break here and it was wonderful! Lorraine was absolutely wonderful, kind, and responsive. The little cottage is quite beautiful. The bed is nice, leather sofa, amazing backyard with bbq, the list goes on. I will say I wish I had realized that the beach that is just walking distance away is more of a surfing beach as there is no place to just layout in the sand. Also my husband and I are not big people and the shower was a struggle. It's very small. This doesn't mean I wouldn't highly recommended this cottage however just giving feedback. Thank you again to Lorraine.
My husband and I stayed for almost three weeks in this rental. It was very comfortable with wonderful outdoor spaces in the front and back as the weather became warmer. It was close to the beach and within driving distance to wonderful hikes and walks. The facilities were fine for this long a stay, including a new DVD player, a finely equipped kitchen, and many changes of bed linens, towels, and kitchen supplies. We would happily stay there again and recommend this cottage to friends visiting the area.
I have stayed in this cozy cottage twice. It became such a wonderful retreat with a perfect private back patio for my yellow lab and I to hang out..... when we were not walking to the beach or just taking a stroll over to The Point to watch the local surfers. The Point Market has the greatest burritos. I felt like I was a local.
We had a very nice stay over the Thanksgiving holiday....a close walk to the beach and local market (coffee and wonderful breakfast burritos) awaited us daily - even on Thanksgiving morning. Appreciated the stay with our "dog babies".
