DOG FRIENDLY PLEASURE POINT BEACH COTTAGE ON MONTEREY BAY

Pleasure Point Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1BR beach cottage, 3 blocks to beach + short drive to the board walk!!!

Pleasure Point is a prime location for a California Central Coast vacation: Surfing, playing on the beaches and/or deep sea fishing, hiking through the redwoods or golfing. For Snow birds that have the time, our cottage on Pleasure Point provides the perfect home base for exploring the area from Monterey to San Francisco. The crowds have gone home and the mild coastal climate is a year-round bonus!

Pleasure Point Cottage, near Santa Cruz, has its own kitchen, equipped with pots, pans, dishes, coffee pot, micro wave, gas stove, refrigerator and dining area.

A queen size bed is prepared with fresh linens and is ready for a good night's sleep on the main floor. An additional double size bed, in a sleeping loft above the kitchen, can be accessed by a stationary ladder. We also have sleeping mats and extra bedding available if needed. Because of its size and configuration, the cottage is not appropriate for small children or for entertaining; but, it is delightfully cozyand convenient for individuals and couples at a very reasonable rate.

The bathroom, is in the center of the cottage; it has a shower; fresh towels and a hair dryer.Utilities, Wi-Fi and cable TV, water, waste management are provided. The cottage has its own fenced back yard with a large, private patio, barbeque and picnic table. The gardener comes by weekly to maintain the plant life. A shed in the back yard is a good spot for storing your surf board, bike or extra luggage.

East Cliff Drive, only a block and a half away, is partially blocked off for pedestrians. It’s a great place to: Walk your dog, ride your bike, or sit on the bench and watch the surfers, feel the fresh air, eat your lunch and listen to the crashing waves.

Have you ever been to a Sand Castle Building Contest? Our cottage is in prime location for the festivities. Or, perhaps you'd like to attend the Shakespeare Festival at the UC Campus. How about going to a Friday night free concert on the beach on the summer months? Whatever it may be, we will be sure to provide you with the essentials of home so you can relax and maximize your enjoyment of everything Santa Cruz has to offer!

Santa Cruz has 29 miles of sand and surf and a very mild climate all year round. Driving south of Pleasure Point, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach . Driving North of Pleasure Point, check out the Santa Cruz Harbor; discover Light House Field State Beach (good surfing and great place to walk dogs).

Natural Bridges State Beach, known for its tide-pooling and famous natural rock bridge, feels secluded but is easily accessible from the road. This state park is a Monarch Butterfly sanctuary for as many as 100,000 butterflies that are drawn to the mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove in the winter months.

Further north are: Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue.

The county is also blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is a trip through the redwoods and back. Check the schedule before you go. If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a bike, or zip line through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. Henry Cowell Redwood Forest and State Park is home to a centuries old Redwood Grove that features a self-guided nature path. The park has a picnic area above the San Lorenzo River. Anglers fish for steelhead and salmon during the winter (catch and release).

Golfers claim that the nearby Pasatiempo Golf course, a Alister McKenzie design, is as good as you can get for public (semi-pro) golf. Golf Week rates it #3 in California.

If you have a loved one that is college bound, be sure to check out the UCSC Campus. Also, visit The Seymour Marine Discovery Center. It’s a part of the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory, a research and education facility of the University of California, located about 3.5 miles from Pleasure Point Cottage. For a wonderful day adventure, drive a little further to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s well worth your time.

You may take your pick of up to forty-five different Santa Cruz wineries. Winemaker Wednesdays at Shadow Brook Restaurant features 2 to 4 wines from local wineries in a spectacular river front setting. Barrel Tasting & Wine Dinner is held at Bonny Doon Vineyard every Thursday where you can glimpse into the winery & cellar. Barrel tasting is followed by a hosted three-course family-style dinner paired with wines of Bonny Doon Vineyard.

There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to enjoy breakfast or toast the sunset. The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola is another of our favorite places for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation: The mild climate, the fresh air, the pounding surf, fine food, long leisurely walks, and beautiful scenery.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Pleasure Point

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing as the sun sets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lorraine, your place is absolutely wonderful with everything we could ever need. I really love the loft. I slept like a baby. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done with the place. You optimized the space very well. We will truly enjoy ourselves. It will be hard to leave. Thank you so much.

Pleasure Point Beach Cottage Hidden Capitola Gem with Secret Garden

  • 5 of 5
We've stayed in this wonderful property several times over the past few years, each experiance improved over the previous visit. What had been a cute funky Capitola cottage has been lovingly and carefully refurbished with attention to detail and comfort. Morning coffee in the hidden garden outside the bedroom was a great way to begin the day. Downtown Capitola is an easy walk along the wonderful sea cliffs. There are always surfers at the point. The photos do not fully show the inside charm of the property but the description is accurate. Lorraine and Virgil are a pleasure to work with, helpful and very responsive. Clam chowder at the end of the Capatola pier is a great inexpensive lunch.

Charming and So Perfect!

Pleasure Point Cottage is really charming and so perfect! We had a great time. The weather was beautiful and so was the backyard. The dog enjoyed it too, and we saw lots of other dogs walking down by the beach.

25th anniversary

  • 5 of 5
The cottage was the perfect place to spend our 25th anniversary. It was walking distance to the beach and our dog loved the back yard. We believe it is well worth the price and are planning our next visit.

Cute & comfortable

Cute & comfortable
  • 3 of 5
My review is really more about preferences. The cottage is cute. The bed is a queen and is comfortable if you like soft beds. My husband likes a firm bed and did not sleep well during our 3 nite stay. The kitchen was fine, it has 1 of most anything you need. The bedroom/living area was very comfortable and plenty of room for the 2 of us...it would be crowded and awkward to have more than 2 people stay here. The living room and bedroom are in the same room. There it's a loft with a double bed in it, but you might hit your head on the ceiling if you were to sit up in the middle of the night. You enter directly into the eating area/ kitchen. The only negative ( & it is a BIG negative for me) is the bathroom. It splits the bedroom/living room & the kitchen. It is exceptionally small! Counter space was 1foot long by 6 inces wide. You can literally wash your hands while sitting on the toilet out there is about 2 1/2 feet between the toilet and the sink cabinet. The shower is 3 feet by 3 feet. With my back against the wall, I could put my hand flat on the opposite wall. I am 5'5". This made shaving and moving very difficult. The water pressure was very slow, kinda like a rain shower, which I do not like in the least. I like a steady strong shower. So over all I give it 3 1/2 stars. We probably won't stay here again, but it does have everything you need, is 2 blocks from the ocean, and the backyard patio and look of the outside of the cottage is adorable. Lorraine was very kind and helpful and we received our deposit back within 5 days of returning.

It was all I'd hoped it would be and more!

I enjoyed my stay at the cottage. It was all I'd hoped it would be and more.
I live in SF so I loved the privacy of that back unit.
I also appreciated being trusted as a responsible dog owner without
all sorts of rules being stated because they are assumed anyway.
I hope to return.
