Pleasure Point Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1BR beach cottage, 3 blocks to beach & a short ride to Santa Cruz Board Walk

Make yourself at home on Monterey Bay. Listen the sounds of the pounding waves and the beckoning calls of the wild sea gulls as you watch the Pelicans dive for fish. Immerse yourself in the gentle breezes and smell of the fresh ocean air. Pleasure Point Cottage, on Opal Cliff, between Santa Cruz and Old Capitola is the perfect place to totally relax after a fun filled day of play and exploration.

This darling little attached cottage on Pleasure Point, in Santa Cruz provides an affordable, comfortable, very private retreat. Your dog is welcome to come along. We have a great enclosed yard for her/him; and, the neighborhood is dog friendly. As an added bonus, we even provide off street parking!

Pleasure Point Cottage has its own kitchen, equipped with pots, pans, dishes, coffee pot, micro wave, gas stove, refrigerator and dining area.

A comfy queen size bed is prepared with fresh linens and is ready for a good night's sleep on the main floor. We also have sleeping mats and extra bedding available if needed.

The bathroom, is in the center of the cottage, has a shower, fresh towels and a hair dryer. Utilities, Wi-Fi and cable TV, water, waste management are provided.

The cottage has its own fenced back yard with a large, private patio, barbeque and picnic table. The gardener comes by weekly to maintain the plant life. A shed in the back yard is a good spot for storing your surf board, bike or extra luggage.

East Cliff Drive, only a block and a half away, is partially blocked off for pedestrians. It’s a great place to: Walk your dog, ride your bike, or sit on the bench and watch the surfers, feel the fresh air, eat your lunch and listen to the crashing waves. The view of Monterey Bay is great.

Santa Cruz has 29 miles of sand and surf and a very mild climate all year round. Driving south of Pleasure Point, you will find Manresa Beach, La Selva, Capitola Beach, Seacliff Beach (sunken cement ship), Seascape Beach, and Sunset Beach. Driving North of Pleasure Point, check out the Santa Cruz Harbor; discover Light House Field State Beach (good surfing and great place to walk dogs).

Natural Bridges State Beach, known for its tide-pooling and famous natural rock bridge, feels secluded but is easily accessible from the road. This state park is a Monarch Butterfly sanctuary for as many as 100,000 butterflies that are drawn to the mild ocean air and eucalyptus grove in the winter months.

Further north are: Wilder Ranch Beach (historic site), Davenport Beach (tiny town with a good bakery),and Four-mile Beach (known for beach parties), Scotts Creek Beach, (a favorite for beach combing ) Wadell Creek Beach, Bonny Dune Beach and Red-White-Blue.

The county is also blessed with 14 state parks, including the popular Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, accessible by steam train from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is a trip through the redwoods and back. Check the schedule before you go. If you want more adventure: Hike, ride a zip line through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. Henry Cowell Redwood Forest and State Park is home to a centuries old Redwood Grove that features a self-guided nature path. The park has a picnic area above the San Lorenzo River. Anglers fish for steelhead and salmon during the winter (catch and release).

Golfers claim that the nearby Pasatiempo Golf course, a Alister McKenzie design, is as good as you can get for public (semipro) golf. Golf Week rates it #3 in California.

If you have a loved one that is college bound, be sure to check out the UCSC Campus. Also, visit The Seymour Marine Discovery Center. It’s a part of the Joseph M. Long Marine Laboratory, a research and education facility of the University of California, located about 3.5 miles from Pleasure Point Cottage. For a wonderful day adventure, drive a little further to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It’s well worth your time.

You may take your pick of up to forty-five different Santa Cruz wineries. Winemaker Wednesdays at Shadow Brook Restaurant features 2 to 4 wines from local wineries in a spectacular river front setting. Barrel Tasting & Wine Dinner is held at Bonny Doon Vineyard every Thursday where you can glimpse into the winery & cellar. Barrel tasting is followed by a hosted three-course family-style dinner paired with wines of Bonny Doon Vineyard.

There are plenty of places in Santa Cruz County to end the day with a glass of wine and a fresh plate of seafood. The pier at the Boardwalk is one favorite places to enjoy breakfast or toast the sunset. The Shadow Brook Restaurant in nearby Capitola is another of our favorite places for a special dining experience. Fragrant gardens and rustic creek-side location add much to the ambience, not to mention a quaint cable car that takes you down to the restaurant and lounge to enjoy live guitar music and happy hour.

About Lorraine Heng

After teaching for thirty-four years and maintaining cars, airplanes and properties for even longer, we have become 'snow birds'. Creating 'home' along the west coast has been a life long passion. This Pleasure Point Cottage is one of our favorites. It's a place we enjoy coming to for sheer relaxation: The mild climate, the fresh air, the pounding surf, fine food, long leisurely walks, and beautiful scenery.

Lorraine Heng purchased this cottage in 1979

Why Lorraine Heng chose Pleasure Point

We love the ambience, especially the fresh ocean air and natural beauty of Monterey Bay with its powerful surge of ocean waves on the beach. There is a wealth of outdoor activities here, and access to San Francisco peninsula is easy from the Santa Cruz area.

What makes this cottage unique

Where else in the world can you, walk out your front door and down the street a couple of blocks to go surfing, comfortably stroll so many beaches, walk the dog through the Light House Field or along the marshes, go deep sea fishing or sailing, go hiking or ride horseback through the nearby redwood forests; or go kayaking in the Elk Horn Slough? A continuing favorite is to watch the otters, birds and sea lions play in the estuary while enjoying a fine fish dinner at Moss Landing as the sun sets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lorraine, your place is absolutely wonderful with everything we could ever need. I really love the loft. I slept like a baby. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done with the place. You optimized the space very well. We will truly enjoy ourselves. It will be hard to leave. Thank you so much.

Pleasure Point Beach Cottage Hidden Capitola Gem with Secret Garden

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in this wonderful property several times over the past few years, each experiance improved over the previous visit. What had been a cute funky Capitola cottage has been lovingly and carefully refurbished with attention to detail and comfort. Morning coffee in the hidden garden outside the bedroom was a great way to begin the day. Downtown Capitola is an easy walk along the wonderful sea cliffs. There are always surfers at the point. The photos do not fully show the inside charm of the property but the description is accurate. Lorraine and Virgil are a pleasure to work with, helpful and very responsive. Clam chowder at the end of the Capatola pier is a great inexpensive lunch.

Quaint, cozy Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I spent 3 nights here at Pleasure Point. Driving up to it, it was so cute! I stayed there by myself and my 2 dogs and it was perfect. The location was great. I walked down to the cliffs every day to watch the surfers. The bedroom/ living room combo area was really nice. The bed was very comfortable, and the sectional couch was a nice leather couch. The kitchen and dining area had everything I needed. The bathroom was small, but it was sufficient for my needs. Then there was a little fenced in courtyard in the back of the house where the dogs could hang out with a bar b que and patio set. It was very nice for a single person or couple, but would be crowded with any more people. Any time I come to Santa Cruz by myself I would love to stay there. For the money, this cabin is definitely worth it.

Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent our spring break here and it was wonderful! Lorraine was absolutely wonderful, kind, and responsive. The little cottage is quite beautiful. The bed is nice, leather sofa, amazing backyard with bbq, the list goes on. I will say I wish I had realized that the beach that is just walking distance away is more of a surfing beach as there is no place to just layout in the sand. Also my husband and I are not big people and the shower was a struggle. It's very small. This doesn't mean I wouldn't highly recommended this cottage however just giving feedback. Thank you again to Lorraine.

Owner's Response: If you walk .5 of a block or 1.5 blocks toward the ocean and turn right, you can cut across about 2 more blocks to Moran Lake, where there is a great beach for playing in the sand, sun bathing or walking your dog. Best surfing spots are to the left.

Excellent place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for almost three weeks in this rental. It was very comfortable with wonderful outdoor spaces in the front and back as the weather became warmer. It was close to the beach and within driving distance to wonderful hikes and walks. The facilities were fine for this long a stay, including a new DVD player, a finely equipped kitchen, and many changes of bed linens, towels, and kitchen supplies. We would happily stay there again and recommend this cottage to friends visiting the area.

Perfect Homey Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in this cozy cottage twice. It became such a wonderful retreat with a perfect private back patio for my yellow lab and I to hang out..... when we were not walking to the beach or just taking a stroll over to The Point to watch the local surfers. The Point Market has the greatest burritos. I felt like I was a local.

We had a very nice stay over the Thanksgiving holiday....a close walk to the beach and local market (coffee and wonderful breakfast burritos) awaited us daily - even on Thanksgiving morning. Appreciated the stay with our "dog babies".
