We offer the properly for rental to enable us to maintain the unique character and feel of the place for the next generation.
George Hutchinson purchased this house in 1960
Why George Hutchinson chose Jamestown (Conanicut Island)
This is a family owned and managed property that has been our summer home for three generations. We love the nearby beaches, watching the boat traffic, and the causal summer lifestyle. Jamestown offers easy access to shopping and services in a friendly small town atmosphere.
This place has been a family gathering spot hosting weddings, reunions, and many guests over the years. Long distance sailing crews have begun and ended voyages here.
This house was originally part of a large estate. It was built in the 1800's as a horse stable with servant quarters on the upper floor. Later it was converted to a garage for 'horseless carriages'. In the 1960's it was remoded into a summer residence. The house was reconstructed recently adding a full foundation and an updated kitchen.
What makes this house unique
This house is literally tucked away and invisible from the public roads yet it is only minutes from Jamestown center. There is a full service boat yard located nearby. A five minute walk will bring you to a large state park frequented by fishermen, scuba divers, and families. Standing on top of the hill you can see the famous 'Clingstone' house built by Joseph Wharton in the 1920s on a tiny island just offshore. The yachting center of Newport is visible in the background.
