PET/BIKER FRIENDLY HISTORIC FARMHOUSE ON NEW RIVER NEAR BOONE

Warrensville Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This historic farmhouse sits in the shadow of Three Top Mountain on a picturesque bend in the North Fork of the New River in Ashe County. In a private setting of 1.3 acres but with easy access to a main road, it is 20 minutes from the shopping, galleries, and restaurants of West Jefferson and 40 minutes from Boone. The trout-stocked river provides opportunities for fishing, swimming, canoeing, and tubing, and the property is also bordered by a rushing creek. Some rooms have been restored to expose the wormy chestnut planks that formed the original interior walls, including a large upstairs bathroom with a whirlpool tub and a spectacular view of the river. The original river rock fireplace contains a new soapstone wood stove for chilly nights, and front and back porches provide plenty of room for relaxing and entertaining outdoors. Water has been supplied to the house from the same spring for over 100 years, and the original spring house now opens onto a large pen, providing pets with shelter and a constant supply of fresh spring water.

First floor has mud room with washer/dryer, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, living room, full bath, and foyer with wood stove. Second floor has full bath with whirlpool tub, 2 bedrooms and sitting room. Two queen and one standard beds. Relax on three decks--two on the first floor and one just off a bedroom on the second floor. Satellite TV, DVD, VCR upstairs and downstairs. Well-stocked library of movies and books, including large selection of kids' movies. Kitchen includes glass-top stove, refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, island, and dishwasher.

Dave Haney and Lisa Baldwin are educators and musicians; we have lived in and worked on this house for six years. We live only an hour from the property, so we are available for any assistance you may need. Dave is an administrator at Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA, and Lisa is a teaching artist and elementary school teacher.

Lisa Baldwin and David Haney purchased this farmhouse in 2005

We have always wanted a historic home with a combination of mountains, river, and creek, and this place has all three. We also enjoy gardening, fishing, canoeing, relaxing, and having room for our animals to roam.

Family members can walk out the back door of this beautiful historic home and jump in the river, fish, canoe, and raft or tube. We love to sip our morning coffee on one of the decks in our favorite rocking chair, and stroll along the riverbank or sit in the swing by the river in the evening with a glass of wine. We also love to go out to dinner in the excellent restaurant towns within an hour of the property, or catch a world-class concert or theatrical performance on the campus of nearby Appalachian State University or Emory & Henry College, or at the Barter Theater in Abingdon.

Wonderful Thanksgiving vacation

Our 2 children live in NC and neither was going to be able to come home to FL for Thanksgiving or Christmas this year so we rented the Riverview Inn for the week and I have to say it was wonderful, Lisa and Dave have a house that makes you feel at home the second you walk in, the candles in the window and the radio was playing and there had been a small fire in the woodstove we missed as we got in later than planned but we restarted that and it was so very nice. The house and the rooms are all very nice and big, we had my 84 year old father in law that took the downstairs and the rest of us were up stairs and had plenty of room. One reason we wanted to be in the mountains was the fact that we heard it might snow and it did on Wed. Nov 27 and it was beautiful, being from FL., we do not get to see that and we loved it. It might have been cold outside but the house was always warm inside.
Lisa and Dave are wonderful to work with and made it so easy to rent the house and everything was as it was stated and better. Lisa did suggest we try the Hotel Tavern restaurant in West Jefferson and we did, Paula was very nice and the food was very good, and as it was our only meal out I really enjoyed it.
Our only problem WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. Love the house. Thank You Lisa and Dave for a wonderful Thanksgiving full of great memories. We will be back.

We had a wonderful time at this place. There was more than enough room for all 6 of us and the house was well stocked! We especially loved the upstairs bathroom. The history of the house is pretty neat and the view of the river from almost every room was relaxing. The owner was very helpful and the pictures are accurate, although the place was way better in person. The only negative thing I can think of, is that we only got to stay here for two nights!

Made some great memories

My family and I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at your vacation home. My husband and son caught some trout and went tubing and in the evenings we all enjoyed a campfire while listening to music with the outdoor speakers. We enjoyed the privacy and the beauty of the landscape, the only reason I am giving four stars instead of the five is because of road noise ( which cant be helped) and I had to vacuum the area rugs when we first got there, I hate to even say anything because the owners are so nice and friendly. I am glad that I found the house on VBRO and was able to have another family trip before my son leaves for the Navy, we made some wonderful memories that we will always cherish.

Just what we needed!

Though we live only a few miles away, our main goal was to be on the river, and we definitely were not disappointed. It was very quiet at night, and the sound and sight of the rushing creek and river were so relaxing. The many fans helped with the weekday road noise, and the house is visually well screened from the road with bushes and trees. Though it was unseasonably cool in the evenings, we chose to keep windows open and use all the lap blankets to stay warm... again, hearing the water was a major goal.

We loved the sunny decks and large yard but wished for chairs to sit down close to the river- so bring a few lawn chairs if watching the water is a main pastime you plan to enjoy. We loved having access to a canoe so we could play on the river without going somewhere to rent one. Yes there are outfitters near, but for us the canoe in the barn was the best luxury of all.

There was a Saturday afternoon outdoor festival at the community center nearby and we wondered if the band would bother us... but fyi it is far enough away that we barely heard it over the sound of the water.

The owners should brag on the beds in their description … we have stayed at house rentals many times, and it was nice to have such good beds in a vacation rental. We also loved the on-demand hot water… that tempted a few of us to enjoy the jetted tub. The kitchen is large and well stocked - so it was easy to cook what we wanted. It was very helpful to have the landline phone as we were arriving in different cars and our cell phones had spotty coverage. Last but not least, the owners are super easy to work with. Thanks guys!
