We have lived in Kalkaska for the past 26 years.I (Teresa) was even born in the Kalkaska hospital. Therefore, I am a true native! My husband Rick however, is a' transplant' from Plymouth Mi. He moved here to marry me! After this many years here, he is now considered a " Local-Yoko" as well. We have two children. Our son is 23, and our daughter is 14 yrs. old. We have lived out here at Crawford Lake for 23 years now.We love it here and this is why we purchased our lake front cottage in June of 2012. The cottage is just across the lake from our primary home. This makes it perfect for our new venture of renting our cottage as a vacation get away /retreat. Again, we love Crawford Lake so much, as well as the surrounding area , so we thought why not share it with others! So, that's what we did!! We are loving meeting new people and making new friends. Our guests have been wonderful and we are grateful to have had them stay with us. So far, they love it here as much as we do!
Teresa and Rick purchased this house in 2012
What attracted us to the area is the fact that you have access to so many fun and exciting out door activities. There is skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing,dirt-biking, four-wheeling, hiking, boating, swimming, water-skiing, fishing, golf;and the list goes on! It is just so very peaceful and beautiful . The scenery and wildlife are breathtaking, and all you have to do is look out the window! Lastly, we love this location because it is only 20 minutes from Traverse City, Torch Lake and the casinos. Perfect!!
AHH!... The View . Sitting on the deck or dock having a drink and watching the sun set over the lake and trees will leave you speechless. The fall colors over the lake reminds us of being in the smokey mountains mostly due to the fact that this lake is not jam- packed with homes one after the other. The south end of the lake has no homes, just all cedar trees. You may even catch site of the bald eagles that nest on the south end of the lake!
Loved our stay. The landlord is a great fun loving guy. He put a lot of time into his place, because it is gorgeous. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Any thing you need is there. All you need to do is bring food and clothes. Everything else is there. What a great place to stay. Already booked us for next year. Looking to book in the winter for snowmobiling. Loved it. I like how clean and well kept the place is. Loved the setting on the water and how peaceful it Is even on a weekend. Looking forward to our stay next year. Well worth the price.
My husband and I were looking for a quiet peaceful place to relax and enjoy a little one-on-one time away from the crazy busy city life with three kids! We completely found that here at Summer Sky's Cottage! We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, sitting out on the dock watching the sunset, roasting hotdogs over the bonfire, and observing the bald eagle and her baby! The cottage had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. When we wanted a taste of the city life, we headed west to Traverse City, Sutton's Bay and the surrounding cities for wine tasting, shopping and sightseeing.
Rick and Teresa couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating and we wish we could've stayed a little longer! We hope to make it back again someday soon!
This vacation spot was just what we were looking for! My husband and I, our 20-year-old twin sons, and our yellow lab were warm and cozy is Rick and Theresa's home. It was clean, the furniture was very comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed (even a large crockpot!). The lake views were wonderful. The house was close to the town of Kalkaska and several ski resorts. My husband tried out his new snowshoes on the golf course down the road. He plans to come back to golf there in the summer.
Rick and Theresa couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating as our hosts.
This place is truly a gem all year round!
We had a great time here at the lake house! The house met our needs wonderfully and the beds were so comfortable! The only things we missed were the indoor fireplace (it was not functioning) since we had a cold spell in early Aug and the hammock. The place was clean and had some of the essentials stocked. The outdoor amenities were lovely! The waterfront fire pit was well used, as was the additional fire pit on windier nights. We cooked out on the gas BBQ daily and there is excellent shopping not too far from the house!! We kayaked on the lake everyday and eagle watching proved to be fun and exciting. The water was lovely and refreshing, particularly at the dock with a sandy-bottom swim area! The property is a shady spot and the dock gets sun in the afternoon- well into the evening! Sunsets were just amazing!! My favorite pastime for our week of lakefront pleasure was tying my float up off the dock and just soaking up the rays! There are plenty of options for quick day trips from the house. There was some very good fishing too off the dock and out in the kayak. Rick and Teresa were lovely hosts and available whenever we needed anything. A splendid stay, we hope to return!
We had such a wonderful time. Our first time in your cabin but hopefully won't be our last. It was so nice to stay in such a clean and comfortable vacation rental. It felt like a home away from home.
Thank you so much,
Mike and Carla Crooks
What a perfect location and house to call "home" for a week in Northern MIchigan! The lake is clean, sandy bottom and could be mistaken for a mirror at times, it reflects some amazing sunsets that you would think came off a postcard. My son and I enjoyed our morning kayak trips to the south end to visit the eagle's nest and the sun bathing turtles, and paddle boated every evening. Perfect bon fires at the water's edge, and plenty of room for the kids to run around and play. The house was spotless, more than comfortable and nicely furnished and decorated. Everything we needed was right at our hands. Had some fun day trips to Traverse City, Torch Lake and Elk Rapids.....my kids favorite was Elk Rapids, cute little town with a wonderful beach and "riding the rapids" on the river. Thank you Rick and Teresa, you are so kind and thoughtful! We made some long lasting memories and will cherish them for years to come :)
The Sleeping Bear Dunes and Mackinac Island are great day trip's from our cottage; as is Leland County for their wine tours. Traverse City is only 25 min. away and is home to the Cherry Festival. Also, snowmobile and RV enthusiasts can leave right from our cottage in order to hook up with the main riding trails. Lastly, Turtle Creek Casino's and Resort is only 20 minutes away. Schuss and Shanty Creek are only 25 minutes away for your skiing and sledding fun and Torch Lake is just 20 minutes away as well! There are so many choices for everyone's up north get away adventures!
