Perfect & Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband, four-year old daughter, small dog and I stayed at Riverside Home last month for a week and had one of the best vacations we have ever had. The cottage was charming, immaculate, roomy, and very well-equipped. The setting was absolutely perfect with the private swimming hole and cascading waterfalls that made sleeping at night such a pleasure, not to mention being able to cool off during the day. Christine, the owner, was extremely responsive to our needs and immediately provided a few extras that we inquired about, as well as being incredi bly generous as to send my daughter's stuffed bunny that was left behind without our asking her to do so or accepting money for postage. The cottage is very convenient to Middlebury, Vergennes, and Burlington and the closest town of Bristol is a little gem with a couple of good restaurants, Shaws Supermarket, Rite Aid, and creemee (ice cream) stand, so pretty much providing everything we needed. We look forward to returning again next year!

Vermont Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation time included being in a hurricane in Vermont what an adventure we had no electric for 24 hours, but Christine the owner of the house was more than helpful bringing us supplies and tellling us how sorry she was for the weather which was not in any way her fault of course. The house was excellent very clean with everything we needed for a comfortable week. The river behind the house is so nice and calming (except for the hurricane of course) listening to the sound at night was wonderful. The house is easy to access, and close to everything we wanted to do like climb Mt. Abe, and swim in the river our dog enjoyed himself with a river in the back yard to play in. Very close to drive to Bristol, Middlebury, and not that far from Burlington. We enjoyed lunch at Mr. Ups in Middlebury the day after the hurricane and watched the river we have never seen the river that high before, and the next night we had dinner at Fire & Ice. We cooked a lobster and steak dinner the night before we left, and the house had everything we needed for this except for a huge lobster pot which a friend brought over. We had a great time, and now we can say we surived hurricane Irene in Vermont the summer of 2011. We would for sure consider staying at this house again it was an excellent week, and Christine could not have been nicer or any more helpful we were sorry it was only a week, and would have loved to stay for longer.

Relaxing, comfortable, and convenient retreat

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Christine's lovely cottage during a weekend trip to attend the third annual Vermont Cheesemakers' Festival at Shelburne Farms in July 2011. The house was perfect -- comfortable, pretty, cozy, and featuring beautiful grounds. The swimming hole is especially wonderful! The pictures don't quite capture how beautiful and relaxing it is. Second, the location was perfect for everything we wanted to do: in under an hour, we were able to drive to Hen of the Wood, one of VT's best restaurants (Waterbury) as well as Kitchen Table Bistro (Richmond); Lincoln Peak Vineyard (New Haven); Neshobe Winery (Brandon); Middlebury's wonderful farmer's market; and, of course, Shelburne Farms. The icing on the cake was Bristol: this small nearby town had everything we could possibly need -- good grocery stores, a Creemee stand, and best of all, the Bobcat Cafe, a local brewery with fantastic food. We are already looking forward to staying there again.

Notes:
Riverside Home is a sparsely decorated, bright & airy environment evoking a sense of calm. The home is simple, clean, charming & quiet. With the sound of the river in all the living areas - the bedrooms have large windows that open to the view and sounds of water and birds. The Kitchen is equipped with just about all you need for any meal, however we do not have a microwave. There is a laundry room with a washer and dryer, industrial sink and hooks for towels & coats a handy spot for out of the way storage. The road is away from the house & mostly blocked by foliage, you cannot see neighbors. It is a delightful location to walk, run or bike. A day trip to the top of Mt. Abraham can be walked/hiked from the house. A Beautiful 10 minute drive over the Lincoln Gap to the town of Warren for Lunch or breakfast at the Warren Store - at yet another river is a delight! If you Love the simplicity of Vermont, enjoy the out of doors & quiet - will enjoy Riverside Home!
