The Perfect Weekend Getaway from NYC

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at this peaceful log home a few weeks ago. The purpose of our trip was to get away from the busy city and have some family skiing fun. The property was spotless and in perfect condition. Cabinets had small handwritten labels which provided us with easy access to things we needed. The wood burning fireplace was delightful after coming back from skiing. The home was equipped with clean towels, pots and pans as well as things we didn't expect, such as, seasonings, cooking oil, rice, etc. I was pleased to see a huge playroom filled with toys for our kids to play with.

Hari, the owner was very responsive and provided detailed instructions that were very easy to follow. He was also nice enough to share a few great restaurants/bars and markets around the area for us to visit during our stay.

Did I mention Mount Peter (ski area) was only a few steps away. You can literally see the slope through the living room window.

Overall this was an amazing weekend getaway for our family of four. It being only one hour away from NYC, we will definitely be staying here again.

exactly what we were craving for

  • 5 of 5

We live in Florida so we were craving for mountain, crisp weather, snow ski, cozy evening around fire, nature, etc.. well, we got all and more. From looking at pictures and reviews, we already knew we are going to love the cabin but when we got there, we fell in love with Warwick. It is such a charming little town but only 75 min to the world biggest city.

We mostly cooked ourselves but we did eat dinner at Penning's market and breakfast at Rogowski farm per Hari's suggestion. Both places provided the unique local atmosphere and we felt like we are locals. It was nice experience, so different from those chain restaurants we are used to. My husband loved the Penning's market's hard apple cider.

For activities, we did snow skiing 4 days in row. Mt.Peter is of course right next to the property and perfect for kids and beginner. They don't have the conveyor belt lift or snow tubing so we also went to Tuxedo Ridge (about 15 min) and Campgaw (about 30 min, in NJ). There are other ski resorts nearby.

Thanks Hari. We will be back!

Quiet and private

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this cozy little cabin for a week and were quite comfortable. It was very neat and clean with all of the necessities for a home away from home. The owner called on the first day that we were there to be sure we had everything that we needed. He also sent a message asking us if we enjoyed our stay when we left. The setting was beautiful among the fall colors and conveniently located to all of the places that we went during our stay.

A warm and cozy chalet nestled in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

We were attending a water polo tournament at The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY and this house was one of the few for rent in the area. The scenic drive took about 30 minutes and actually was a very enjoyable ride. The house was just perfect for our needs. It was very close to shopping and restaurants. We didn't miss not having a TV at all, and the high speed internet was all we needed to keep connected to the outside world. The house was warm and cozy as temperatures dropped in the evenings. The kitchen had everything we needed for home cooked meals. The beds were very comfortable. Hari was a great host. If you find yourself in the area or just want an escape to the country for some peace and quiet, we highly recommend this wonderful home.

Well kept, cozy and perfect for a getaway weekend.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were looking for a nice; quiet retreat from NYC this weekend. We found it in the form of this perfect little ski chalet located close to Warwick, NY and Mount Peter. It was only an hour away from our home in The Bronx. We must admit that we are not fans of hotels and always look to stay in a more private; secluded setting. We could not have been happier with our decision.

As we decided to try our hand at skiing, Mt. Peter seemed the perfect choice for beginners like us. It was her first time and my second (though it was 15+ years ago). The home was spacious, bright and included all the amenities we needed. While it is located directly adjacent to the slopes and is somewhat nearby other houses, there was still a feeling of absolute privacy and seclusion.

We would highly recommend it to any couples looking for a romantic getaway or a family looking to hit the slopes and enjoy nearby Warwick, NY. We've been to the wineries in the Hudson Valley area before, but would suggest sticking to the larger Warwick Valley Winery over the smaller ones. If you're planning on going in the summer there is an awesome drive in theater that plays doubles features daily during the warmer seasons.

Saturday, we did dinner at Coquito, a great Latin restaurant in town that we enjoyed tremendously. The sangria was AWESOME....and strong! The food was very good and the service was excellent. We would definitely recommend it ... and keep in mind that we are tough critics when it comes to dining out. Which brings us to the next review. Unfortunately we went on an impromptu search for Sunday breakfast and ended up at G's Restaurant. Avoid it at all costs. Stick to some of the recommendations of the property owner, Hari. He was extremely helpful and informed us of many of the goings on in town and the surrounding areas.

The house is literally right on the same mountain as the slopes. The house itself was scattered with unique and cool artwork and fixtures; both modern and rustic. We were pleasantly surprised and can honestly say that the pictures did not do it justice. Thanks again to Hari and his family for playing host to a much needed weekend getaway.
