Photos and Description of the Woolwine vacation cabin rental
Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 1 Bath, (Can sleep up to 6))

Take a step back in time at this authentic rustic 1860s Log Cabin. This cabin was built by a soldier returning from the civil war and sits where it was built in a beautiful 22 acre hayfield. Outlined by a rustic wood fence and centered between two spring heads. Several old walnut trees and a huge boxwood remain on the property. Has the original and working rock fireplaces located in the living and kitchen area. Decorated inside and out with antiques and local moonshine memorabilia. A few modern conveniences include electric stove, refrigerator, running water, bathroom, washer and dryer, antenna TV, and window a/c units. This is truly a treasure hidden in the small and rural community of Charity in Patrick County, Va.

About Pam Hall

Living nearby at the home place of my Grandmother Mamie Boothe, this little cabin was admired by me for many years. I have always respected and collected items from the past, the cabin was a great place to display my collections. My cabin became available for purchase in 2007 and I was fortunate enough to buy the old home. It has been a labor of love and now I would like to share it's charm with you. There are still many projects yet to be completed. So things will change from 1 year to the next. I am hoping my guests will enjoy staying so much that they will return year after year and enjoy my progress on the old home with me.

Pam Hall purchased this cabin in 2007
Why Pam Hall chose Woolwine

I love history and even as a child I collected what my mama called 'junk'. Some of that junk now decorates my gardens, porches and walls. I love it and I hope you will too!

What makes this cabin unique

This is not for everyone! If you want to experience rustic living (with some modern conveniences like running water, electric & internet, but no cable and usually no cell service) enjoy privacy, peace and quite, sitting on the porch swing with a book, or trying to count all the stars in the sky, this is the place for you!

Relaxing Girls Weekend in a Beautiful Cabin

5 of 5
Submitted: April 30, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
My friend and I are both in the Navy and wanted to have a girls weekend away to catch up. We brought our dogs and enjoyed a beautiful weekend in this picturesque cabin. The dogs had a blast running through fields while we were relaxing, cooking, and chatting on the porch. Even in the rain this cabin is amazing, listening to the rain on the tin roof and keeping the fire going. Such an amazing trip and Pam is such a fabulous host. Thank you for the hospitality! Fresh flowers, a welcome sign, and a fire going in the fireplace when we arrived. We will be bringing our husbands back here when they get back from deployments for a romantic couples getaway. Can't say enough about this amazing place :)

Absolutely Amazing

The cabin was absolutely adorable, cozy, and a great home away from home. It was very clean and it was obvious that this owner takes much delight in caring for her cabin and guests. The fireplace worked wonderfully (hint, ask the owner for some pine cones as she mentioned to us that it is a great tool to getting the fires started) and the kitchen had all of the modern day conveniences in it. The kitchen definitely invites you to get in there and whip up some great food (hint, if using the oven just remember to adjust your cooking time to be shorter as little ovens bake things faster.) Also if you are adventuresome or really want to take yourself back in time you can even try to cook using the wood stove! The property is gorgeous and definitely provides for a lot of privacy. Our dog also enjoyed everything about the property including the ability to roam freely off-leash and even relaxing on the front porch swing! The cabin also has a lot of history so be sure to ask the owner about it. This cabin is solidly built, did not have any wind/air drafts, and is very well maintained. The owner was very welcoming and met us shortly after we arrived at the cabin. Following some sever weather later that week, she stopped by again just to check in and see if we needed anything. The owner truly cares about her guests and wanted to meet any needs that we had during our stay. Oh, we can't forget to mention the adorable sign welcoming us to the cabin. Simply put, we highly recommend this cabin to others.

Little House on The Prairie

5 of 5
Submitted: June 2, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
What can we ever say in this review to explain this wonderful ,romantic ,private, most unique cabin ? First of all if you do not like being alone , quite and peaceful this is not the place for you, When you drive across the field towards the cabin you cannot at first see it then you come upon a hill and it comes into your view, At that moment we were transported back into time , we both looked at each other and said at the same time Little House on the Prairie. When you enter the cabin you can feel the warmth you feel welcome Pam has done a wonderful , wonderful job making sure there is plenty of personality. The kitchen was my faavorite and I found myself making excuses to go in it to cut up veggies or some task! due to a little electricity problem that could not be fixed immediatly we had no hot water and no stove for our time here But i will tell you The Hubby and I had many laughs over this we,heated water on the grill and did all our cooking on the grill and had a most wonderful wonderful time in spite of this. Pam called someone right away to come out, fretted over this and made sure we had plenty of propane LOL She is a most gracious host and fills the cabin with fresh flowers before your arrival. The Hubby and i have been married thirty years and have been to many cabins along the way this by far was the most loved by us. Thank you Pam for sharing this wesome unique place with us, You already know we will be back !! PS also Thank You for allowing our Belle to be with us

Owner's Response: I just want to thank the wonderful guests that have stayed in my cabin. All of you have been so appreciative for really small simple things. It warms my heart to know others see this place with the same eyes I do.
Thank you for the notes you leave and for the great reviews. I hope you will continue to visit.

My wife and I have >100 yrs "experience" between us. I retired from the USN after some travel, she has been to Europe, we like to travel yet keep it simple, still camping at times. We sailed on the last 3 masted US sailing vessel, the Victory Chimes. We have also stayed in some really nice expensive places in Charleston, SC, etc. We mention this because in all of our travels over many years, we have NEVER stayed in more quaint, rustic, simple, relaxing, realistic, accommodations nor with a more hospitable host!!!!! On our way our car broke down as we limped onto the property and my wife twisted and sprained her ankle just before we got there too! What a way to begin a few days of relaxation in the VA mountains, worry, worry, expense, no ride, hospital, all going through our heads. Well the next morning Pam, the owner, shows up to check on us...I explain things, and within an hour 3 men arrive to tow our vehicle, bringing heating wood, and a loaner car!!! That night, after the car is repaired, delivered, paid for, all new brakes and a wheel bearing and tow for $325!!, and my wife is back from a trip to the hospital, all possible with Pam's help!!! I cannot say enough about her thoughtful, resourceful, assistance!! Then there is the real deal cabin!!! Hand hewn logs, fireplaces all warm and cozy for our arrival, decorated inside and out with authentic antiques and art! AWESOME!!!!! Now in all honesty it is not for everyone, you do have to work to stay warm by building and tending fireplaces-there is no thermostat, and it is about 150yrs old but in exceptional condition. Pam is updating all the time but all you need is there, comfort, scenery, history, quiet, peace, solitude, etc. You do not have a phone but who could not afford to take a break from that ball and chain? We absolutely loved it!! I did not want to leave, even after our inconveniences. If you want to get away, and especially for a steal of a price, you don't want to miss this cabin! We will always stay there as long as she lets us, for our trips to the area every year!!! I would love to live there! If you are an artist, writer, or just want to leave the distractions at home, go stay at this cabin! If you know the area it is a great central location not far from Floyd, Roanoke, Christianburg, etc. Tell Pam we sent 'ya and go have a wonderfully relaxing stay in her capable, caring, sharing hands! Oh yea, and she loves your canine friends too! Thanks so much Pam and family!
