Both the first and second floor flats of this 3 unit building are available for rent. The second and third floor units share an entrance into the house (the property manager lives on the third floor). Once inside, there is an additional locking door that enters the second floor flat. Each flat is a 1600 sq ft independent vacation home with 2 bedrooms, 1 Japanese tatami mat which serves as an extra single bed and 1 bathroom each.
Both first-floor and second floor are two bedroom flats in an original 1911 Edwardian house located in the center of San Francisco. Restored by the owner, the house has all the details of a classic turn-of-the-century San Francisco home, with all modern amenities.
The house is located between Duboce Park and the famous Alamo Square. Within walking distance are some of the city's greatest neighborhoods for exploring: the Castro, the Mission, Hayes Valley, the Fillmore and the Haight-Ashbury. Half a block away is lower Haight Street, filled with one of the city's most eclectic concentrations of unique cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops.
Public transportation is right outside the door to connect you to the entire city, and the MUNI is accessible in a two-block walk, from which you can easily access the Financial District, Union Square, the Embarcadero and North Beach.
These unique flats have original hardwood floors and parquet throughout, accented by brass fixtures. Towards the front of the house are the foyer, living room and dining room, which feature 12-foot ceilings and stained glass windows. Period details such as original molding, stained glass windows, and 25 pivoting windows throughout make this house a special find.
The black-tiled bathrooms feature both a claw foot tub and a marble shower, with a separate WC across the hall. The two comfortably appointed double bedrooms in each flat have bay windows, which get full sunlight from morning to midday. The linen closet is stocked with plenty of linens and towels.
The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, dishwasher, full-sized fridge with water filter, coffee maker, blender, cooking supplies, and cabinets stocked with necessities for cooking. There is a separate utilitarian prep kitchen with second sink and butcher block, by which you access the back stairs down to the backyard.
PRIVATE GARAGE INCLUDED: enclosed single-car garages adjacent to house are included with the rental at no additional charge. Take advantage of the safety and convenience of having your own garage, whether you are driving or renting a car during your stay. Be sure to specify if you will need the garage when you inquire.

'Our family has recently spent 5 nights at Steiner Street and the description given by its owner and the comments made by previous guests are an understatement. The apartment has everything one could think of to make a stay comfortable, not to mention the space. To be able to sit in the back yard on balmy evenings enjoying a glass or two of Californian red wine before walking less than 5 minutes to any one of a half a dozen reasonably priced restaurants was better than home. That is unless you decide to stay in and prepare a meal in the wonderfully appointed kitchen. There are even sharp cooking knives! Should we ever have the chance to return to San Francisco, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.'

My family stayed here for a week on very short notice (surprise wedding in the family) and had a wonderful time in San Francisco.
Ethan was an exceptional communicator, and he went above and beyond to make our stay great and help us out with various odds and ends. Although the downstairs flat could benefit from some cosmetic retouching in some places (peeling wallpaper in one bedroom, for example), it was clean and very well stocked in the kitchen (pots! pans! full size appliances! lots of coffee gadgets! dishes and knives! pantry space!), which was far more important to us. It's a historic home and has some of the quirks of one (unusual light switches, bathroom taps, etc), but we come from a nearly 120-year-old Victorian in the Midwest, so we felt perfectly at home. The bedrooms, at the back of the flat, are quiet, and the beds are comfortable. All of us, including my three year old, slept well, and we loved having so much space in the house. We also enjoyed a couple picnics in the back patio area. Wi-fi works, but only reliably in the front room if you're in the downstairs flat. Lots of great orientation materials are available in a binder and in the front room, including brochures, maps, take-out menus, and tips for both the flat and the city.
Public transportation is an easy walk from the flat, as are groceries and lots of delicious restaurants. The location was also nice because it's at the halfway point, so you don't have to travel too far to get to Golden Gate Park and the zoo in one direction or Fisherman's Wharf in the other. Highlights of our trip: The Exploratorium, the Saturday morning farmer's market at the Ferry Building, Muir Beach and Muir Woods (renting a car for that one day trip is a great option...the parking space at the flat came in handy for us!), and the Samovar in Castro.
If you are a family with young kids, it's a great space and far, far outstrips the experience you'd have at a hotel of equivalent price in San Francisco. No question. We brought an umbrella stroller and that was all we needed to ensure that this was a really convenient place for hopping on public transportation. There are also several parks in walking distance if your kiddo needs to run off some steam.
I said it before, but I'll say it again--Ethan was a fantastic host. We had a wonderful experience, and my kiddo can't stop talking about it.
I absolutely love the condo, it is my second time here and I consider it home away from home. Spotless, amazing authentic Victorian decor, Ethan the manager is the best ever, the area is super hip with awesome restaurants, I just love this place.
We are a family of five and it can often be difficult to book affordable accommodation. This house was perfect for us. We had already been travelling for 10 days staying in hotels and this was just the space we needed including it a separate kitchen, dining and lounge room. We arrived late at night - I had advised Ethan who manages the property - and he had left lights on for us to make our way upstairs. Once inside the kids had a great time exploring the property as it's not instantly apparent how many rooms there are and it was an adventure just finding all the rooms. The location of this property was also ideal. There are some great little cafés within 1/2-2 blocks away and you really feel part of the neighbourhood. Public transport was also very easily accessible to get you where you need to go. We picked up our hire car on the last day and it was a relief to know we had a parking spot available. Ethan provided excellent and prompt communication in all our dealings with him. We really enjoyed our five nights here and we were all sad to leave.
Fabulous location! Gorgeous woodwork throughout. Well-kept and well-organized, this huge flat in a great part of the lower Haight is convenient to everything. We walked until we had blisters, and buses run in all directions to areas beyond walking. Easy bus to BART and airport. Yummy food nearby (Ethiopian was fantastic), painted sisters up the hill, direct buses downtown. Kitchen was equipped with everything. Beds comfy and nice - light and lovely interior, pretty patio, expansive living room and dining area. We loved it and would definitely stay again anytime we can get to that beautiful City! Garage would be useful, but you don't need a car in this town. Thanks Ethan!
We had a perfect experience renting this flat. It is spacious and we felt at home from the very beginning. The location is central, although immediate neighborhood is not the safest at night. Ethan was helpful and professionnal. Would go back anytime!
This was my second stay in this apartment/flat. As with my last stay, Ethan made sure everything was in order and patiently answered all of my questions. There are many things to see and do that have been carefully listed and organized into a binder for arriving guests. The home's personality and its proximity to so many shops, places to eat, and public transportation makes one feel immersed in a delightful part of the city. If there's a place to leave a little piece of your heart in exchange for memories of loving a city, it is here. I can't wait to go back.
Golden Gate Park is 12 blocks west of the house, offering great opportunities for exploring, hiking and biking. Nearby neighborhoods Fillmore, Hayes Valley, Haight Ashbury, Mission, Valencia Street Corridor and Upper Market offer nearby live music at small venues and concerthalls, great unique shopping and sightseeing, and abundant restaurants, bars and cafes. In a 2-block radius around the house, you'll find one of the city's most eclectic collection of coffee shops and restaurants, including French, Indian, Thai, Japanese and Middle Eastern food, and a couple of great spots for brunch.
