The perfect romantic get-away, Chuckanut Bay Hideaway, CBH, is a newly constructed modern upscale cottage style studio on world famous Chuckanut Bay. Sit back and watch the eagles, sea birds, seals, boats and spectacular sunsets from this very private and comfortable cozy hideaway. 3 miles south of the historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham, WA, 75 minutes from Vancouver, 90 minutes from Seattle, it’s perfect for a weekend get-away any time of year. (WWU parents: build in a mini-vacation to your next visit - come see your student and spoil yourself at the same time!!)

It's called the HideAway for a reason. Private, quiet and secluded.

The 550 sq ft hideaway is nestled in the trees on a level patch of cliff, offering a commanding view of Chuckanut Bay, Lummi Island and mature gardens. Garage parking with inside stairs make access easy and dry. The hideaway is a newly (completed in Jan 2012) converted space with open beam ceiling, hardwood floors, gas fireplace-stove, 42” HD LCD TV with cable, wifi, BluRay, 600 thread Egyptian cotton linens, leather couch, large tile shower, heated tile bathroom floor, microwave, refrigerator, plates, glasses, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle, cutlery. (NO OVEN OR COOK TOP/BURNERS.) Because of its cliff-side location, there are 14 stairs to be navigated to get from the garage area. The train tracks run below the property, and the occasional sound of the trains rolling by provide a wonderful background.

The Hideaway is located on world famous Chuckanut Drive, a 20 mile long two-lane road constructed in 1896 was designated a State Scenic Recreational Highway in 1993. In places Chuckanut Drive literally hangs off the side of Chuckanut Mountain with spectacular salt water views. There are plenty of hiking, biking trails nearby. Head north on the old Interurban Trail and go to Fairhaven and downtown Bellingham or head south to Larabee State Park, Clayton beach and Skagit Valley. Picturesque towns like La Conner, Fairhaven and Edison are easily within reach with their art galleries, shops and restaurants. Enjoy gourmet cuisine minutes away at The Oyster Bar or the Rhododendron Cafe. Taylor Shellfish Farm is just down the road and has oysters, clams, mussels, crab and prawns mostly farmed and caught locally daily. Also within easy reach are the Washington State and British Columbia ferries, Whale watching tours, boating and kayaking, Winter skiing and boarding at Mt. Baker ski area, and the Skagit Valley, with it’s Tulip Festival in April and berries and fresh organic produce all summer.

About The Owner

I was a builder, woodworker before I began a career in software. I recently put the tool belt back on to transform my woodshop into the Chuckanut Bay HideAway. I live alone in the main house on the property. I am often out of town but have a local support person when I am gone. I enjoy traveling and meeting other travels. I can help with questions and suggestions but I respect the privacy of my guests and will let you take the lead on your desired level of interaction. ~ H.F.

This place is a real gem! The views of Chuckanut Bay are amazing! The place is comfortable and well appointed. It felt like our own little getaway. We'd definitely stay here again.

We spent two lovely nights at the Chuckanut Bay Hideaway, enjoying the Bellingham/Fairhaven area and being tourists in our own back yard. The studio is well-appointed with luxury linens and such, and has a coffee maker and tea kettle for one's convenience. Howard is a perfect host who made our stay memorable.

Had a lovely time in this lovely place. Visit was quite and beautiful inside and out. We are locals but it was the perfect place to 'Hideaway" for the weekend. Would certainly visit again!

A resident of San Juan Island noted that he refers to the island as; "Planet San Juan", meaning in his view that it is an other worldly place. The same can be said for Chuckanut Bay Hideaway.
Simple Zen elegance, views that never get old ( at least for us Rocky Mountain types), and a feeling of home. Where have you been lately that gives you garage privileges?
Howard was available without being intrusive making it very easy to come and go at our leisure without feeling that we were intruding on his life.
A bottle of Washington wine, spectacular sunsets and my wife of 40 years...heaven!
