Overview

Bellingham Studio Rental Photos and Description

Studio, Studio + Queen bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

The perfect cozy, waterfront get-away, Chuckanut Bay Hideaway! CBH, is a recently converted modern cottage style studio on world famous Chuckanut Bay. Sit back and watch the eagles, sea birds, seals, boats and spectacular sunsets from this very private and comfortable hideaway. 3 miles south of the historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham, WA, 75 minutes from Vancouver, 90 minutes from Seattle. Perfect for a weekend get-away any time of year. (WWU parents: build in a mini-vacation to your next visit - come see your student and spoil yourself at the same time!!)

It's called the HideAway for a reason. Private, quiet and secluded - yet very close to shops, restaurants and grocery stores.

The 550 sq ft HideAway is nestled in the trees on a level patch of cliff, offering a commanding view of Chuckanut Bay, Lummi Island and mature gardens. Garage parking with inside stairs make access easy and dry. The hideaway is a newly (completed in Jan 2012) converted space with open beam ceiling, hardwood floors, gas fireplace-stove, 42” HD LCD TV with cable, wifi, BluRay, cotton linens, leather couch, large tile shower, heated tile bathroom floor, microwave, refrigerator, plates, glasses, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle, cutlery. (Sorry NO OVEN OR COOK TOP/BURNERS.)

Because of its cliff-side location, there are 14 stairs to be navigated to get from the garage area. The train tracks run below the property, and the occasional rumble sound of the trains rolling by provide a wonderful background.

The HideAway is ideal for 2 people only.

The Hideaway is located on world famous Chuckanut Drive, a 20 mile long two-lane road constructed in 1896 was designated a State Scenic Recreational Highway in 1993. In places Chuckanut Drive literally hangs off the side of Chuckanut Mountain with spectacular salt water views. There are plenty of hiking, biking trails nearby. Head north on the old Interurban Trail and go to Fairhaven and downtown Bellingham or head south to Larabee State Park, Clayton beach and Skagit Valley. Picturesque towns like La Conner, Fairhaven and Edison are easily within reach with their art galleries, shops and restaurants. Enjoy gourmet cuisine minutes away at The Oyster Bar or the Rhododendron Cafe. Taylor Shellfish Farm is just down the road and has oysters, clams, mussels, crab and prawns mostly farmed and caught locally daily. Also within easy reach are the Washington State and British Columbia ferries, Whale watching tours, boating and kayaking, Winter skiing and boarding at Mt. Baker ski area, and the Skagit Valley, with it’s Tulip Festival in April and berries and fresh organic produce all summer.

About Howard Furst

I was a builder, woodworker before I began a career in software. I recently put the tool belt back on to transform my woodshop into the Chuckanut Bay HideAway. I live alone in the main house on the property. I am often out of town but have a local support person when I am gone. I enjoy traveling and meeting other travels. I can help with questions and suggestions but I respect the privacy of my guests and will let you take the lead on your desired level of interaction. ~ H.F.

Howard Furst purchased this studio in 1991

Perfect stay for us days leading up to the local Chuckanut50k trail race. Awesome running and hiking trails minutes away from the house. Howard left us great instructions and we enjoyed the very clean and specious studio with amazing views all day long. Looking forward to coming back to visit.

Perfect for my sabbatical

  • 5 of 5

I just needed to run away from home for a couple of days to re-charge. Since I live in Vancouver Canada, this location was an easy drive. The space was perfect for me being one person. When I arrived Howard had left a note for me. It's was easy to access with the codes. I like that my car was safely tucked away and close in the garage. I used the garage to store my bike (my companion on this trip). The room it's self was spotless. the bathroom was nicely appointed and spacious with in-floor heating. The bed was extremely comfortable, but it was the view which is so mesmerizing and stunning. I spent almost the entire time sitting by the cozy fire and looking out the window. I suggested to Howard a rug and big love seat surrounding the fire and view would be nice :) Be aware there are minimal cooking facilities, but it's stocked with dishes, fridge and microwave and was just fine for my needs.

Fairhaven is 5 minutes away and offers great restaurants and shops, the I5 is 5 minutes away. Bellingham has tons of parks and hiking trails and some of the finest scenery in the world. I found a couple of great bike rides. In all I enjoyed it enough to want to come back soon.

Beautiful small modern ßtudio

  • 5 of 5

Real nice little spot. The spacious design made It seem much larger. Simple, but with everything you need. Recommended for Yoga enthusiasts, the hardwood(ish? may be composite, w/e) floor and big window with stunning view had me dreaming in the clouds. And in the islands. And the inland sea. Less than 10m drive from cute downtown Fairhaven. Just off the Interurban trail, great for runners or multi-terrain cyclists. Real quiet, only slight road noise from chuckanut and the deep gentle thrumming of the train rolling past, which I found enchanting.

The Chuckanut Hideaway was Fantastic! The instructions Howard sent out were very helpful and thorough. The Hideaway was immaculate, and the view is spectacular. Lots to do in nearby Bellingham and on Chuckanut Drive itself. Highly recommended for couples. Thanks Howard, we;ll be back!

Northwest jewel

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at this hidden hideway along my favorite scenic drive in the Pacific NW. Clean, artfully decorated, comfy bed, plush linens, welcoming flowers. The location is close to Fairhaven and Bellingham restaurants and shopping, as well as hikes and views in Larabee Park. Great for a weekend getaway, or better yet, a week or two.
