Blackberry Hollow Cabin
Privacy, seclusion, and the beautiful Shenandoah River! Cabin offers a private and secluded setting which caters to nature enthusiasts, river sport fanatics, and dog lovers! This custom home boasts spacious rooms, vaulted ceilings, gourmet kitchen, veggie and herb gardens, rose gardens, private back deck, full length screened front porch and a huge fenced dog yard. Enjoy 2 acres of adjacent private river front---take the path from the cabin to private river access. River front is beautifully manicured with picnic table, firepit, sandy entrance to the river, and no neighbors to view on either side or across the river. Put up the family sized tent (for the kids) and make sure you end the evening doing a little star gazing with a fire in the 7 ft firepit. This retreat is 1/2 mile from the end of a 'dead-end' road. This quiet road is perfect for running, cycling, walking, and was recently used in a triathlon and is part of the Old Dominion 50 mile horse endurance ride.
Area Surroundings: River frontage is on the South Fork of the Shenandoah. Bird watching is popular here with hundreds of local bird varieties to view---including eagles which are nesting along the river. Shenandoah Outfitters are just up the road 15 minutes from the cabin where you can rent canoes, kayaks, and go tubing down the river. Also, several local hikes are just minutes from here--Indian Grave Ridge and Compton Falls approximately 2 1/2 miles from here. The area has several attractions to visit while you are enjoying your stay with us. The Shenandoah Valley features picture-postcard farms and beautiful scenery along country roads and the popular Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. If you're interested in the great outdoors, you'll love the hiking trails and horseback riding in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And don't forget the beautiful Shenandoah National Park with its portion of the Appalachian Trail. Whether your trip is action packed or more relaxed, every moment in the Shenandoah Valley is a breath of fresh air!

My husband & I stayed at Blackberry Hollow Cabin for a long weekend & it was wonderful. Diana (the owner) was extremely nice & professional in all of her emails & she made sure that we knew what to bring, what was provided, etc.
The cabin sits on a nice piece of property & it had plenty of room for our dog to run around. Having 2 fenced in areas was great & it made things very easy for us when it came to taking him out, playing ball, etc. The cabin has a very homey feel to it & it's very clean & well maintained. The kitchen has everything you need to cook great meals plus there's the gas grill on the back deck. The couches & beds were comfy & there were plenty of extra pillows & blankets if you needed them. There was a nice selections of movies, books & cd's around the cabin plus the owner has a binder full of ideas of things to do around the Luray area. The front porch is awesome. We spent the mornings out there drinking coffee, reading & listening to the birds & cicadas. It was very peaceful & one of our favorite spots to relax.
We spent some time down by the river & watched groups of people canoeing by. There's a nice picnic table & fire pit & lots of open area to hang out at.
Like others including the owner suggest, it's best to get all of your supplies before getting to the cabin. It is about a 1/2 hour from town & the 9 1/2 miles of dirt road does take a little while to drive down. The road is well maintained but you do need to take it slow as there are the occasional potholes you need to avoid.
We can't wait to return for another stay & would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a great place to stay in the Luray area.
The property itself was just beautiful. Being nestled in the woods gave a rustic feel. However, the cabin had all the modern features I prefer; Wi-Fi, beautiful appointments, clean, the kitchen had everything we needed (except the food, of course). We even forgot coffee filters and were so happy to find several stacks of them in the cupboard! We felt immediately at home and comfortable! The dog run was AWESOME! My dog was just thrilled to be able to run all over the very large dog pen! And, the back yard being fenced so I could let my dog out in the middle of the night to do his business was an incredible bonus!
Diana was the perfect e-hostess! There were no surprises...she made sure we knew what to bring, where to stop, and what to expect. Simply perfect. As a matter of fact, Diana, if you're reading this... If you ever decide to put the property on the market, I call first dibs!!!
I will absolutely go back and I would highly recommend this property for virtually anyone...single, married, with children, with dogs, with the in-laws, etc!
Rustic river cabin on the outside, luxury accommodations inside. Blackberry Hollow is a lovely retreat from the hectic pace of normal life. Secluded, quaint and yet surprisingly modern, this place has it all. My teens and husband enjoyed tubing in the water, renting kayaks from the outfitters just up the road, and going for long bike rides. I rarely left the fabulous screened porch. Diana was simply wonderful. She responded to all our enquiries promptly and made sure everything was in order for our arrival. This peaceful family vacation could not have been any better. Will definitely return!
My fiancee and I stayed at Blackberry Hollow Cabin this past weekend and couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm still gushing! The house was well stocked with everything we could possibly have needed, not a detail overlooked, and the property was spotless when we arrived. The drive was relaxing and gorgeous, with a wealth of outdoor activities available on arrival. An absolute joy to be able to bring our dog for the weekend - although by entering the property or the grounds, you'd never know another dog had been there, the place was so clean!
I truly can't say enough about what a great experience this was - as my first HomeAway booking, I didn't know what to expect when working directly with the owner, but for every future trip I make, Diana has set the bar impossibly high: like other reviewers have said time and again, a real dream to work with. Extremely responsive and thorough with every e-mail, immediately connected with me when I called for questions at the cabin, and even followed up with me later in the day to make sure I had everything I needed.
Diana, you have my future business and my wholehearted recommendation for your wonderful "home away from home"!
Blackberry Hollow was a perfect river getaway. The house is lovely and well stocked with everything we needed. The private river access is wonderful as well, easy to park there and spend the day on the water. We loved utilizing the inner tubes to float in the river and grilled dinner on the deck both nights. Definitely recommend it for a weekend getaway from the city or even a lazy week by the river, building campfires, or just sitting on the huge screened in porch.
We really enjoyed our weekend stay here. The cabin is clean, spacious, impeccably furnished, and in a very scenic location close to the river. Great place to relax and get away. Would definitely recommend it to couples or large families. We hope to return later this summer.
Nearby activities range from Luray Caverns, canoeing, tubing, kayaking, swimming and fishing in the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, Massanutten Water Park, to hiking and horseback riding in Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive and the George Washington National Forest, to visiting local antique stores and flea markets, to touring civil war battle fields, awesome caverns and nearby vineyards. Then too, there is time for just propping up your feet and watching and listening to the calls of over 100 varieties of local birds. There is also guided fishing and hunting around Luray, VA.
Other Activities: canoeing, kayaking, tubing
