Three siblings and spouses own this historic spot, having spent summer vacations here with our parents; it was owned by relatives before that.
Liz purchased this house in 1950
We love it. It's roomy and cozy.
We enjoy varied restaurants, the Hyannis night life, live theatre, walks to the beach, sunsets on Cape Cod Bay, cocktails on Hyannis Harbor watching the boats come in. Sometimes we go whale watching or take a short drive to the ferry landing taking us to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard for the day or overnight.
Charming churches of all denominations near by. Playground a short walk from the house.
Stayed last summer with another family. We had great time and cant beat the price for the cape. Going again this summer.
We rented this cottage with friends and had a total of 4 adults and 4 children. There was ample room for all of us so that we didn't feel like we were cramped or crowded. We loved the yard we had outside for the kids to run around and we built a bonfire every night. We used the full-size picnic table by the fire pit for almost every meal and enjoyed the sky full of stars in the evening. It is secluded but still very close (by foot or bike) to restaurants, a beach, and a harbor where we went on a fantastic whale watch. The tv is small and the washer/dryer is not new but for the price of this rental I was not expecting those kinds of amenities. We barely watched any tv because we were having so much fun outside anyway. We found the cottage clean and quaint (old but not rundown). I am looking forward to renting this cottage again next summer and would recommend it without hesitation!
We rented this house for a month. Upon arrival the house seemed quaint from the outside but the front yard was all grown up. The exterior covered area was covered in cob webs and just not clean. As you enter the kitchen, it became obvious that the house was not rennovated and not well kept. Upon closer examination there was a closet with tools and old stuff hanging out of it with a curtain trying to hide the mess. The washer and dryer are old and the control panel was taped on. The dining room and living room are spacious but there were wires everywhere and a tiny TV. The upstairs had a balcony with a wooden banister that was extremely loose and hazardous. There were clothes hanging on the railing as if someone was staying there. The bath was dark and the tub had years of stains and crud under the bath mat. The mattresses were old and the whole house had a smell that I don't want to discribe. Two of our party stayed one night and then we told the owners that the house was not acceptable and requested a retund. The numerous owners kept all our money and did not care that the house did not meet acceptable standards. I do not recommend you rent this place.
My husband, 4 kids and I stayed two summers ago. We were captivated by the history of the house and former owners, the Cobb's. My husband and the kids took the path every afternoon through the field behind the house to the bench that honors Rita and Fran for donating all their land to the state. We have recommended this cottage to many friends and all have had a wonderful experience. One friend brought his new wife in September for a spectacular off-season honeymoon! The owners are always available to handle problems. We had a problem with water pressure in one of the bathrooms, and the out-of-state owners sent over a caretaker to fix the problem within an hour. I love hearing the trains pass by every day - so romantic! We will be back this summer! Can't wait!!!!!!!
Spent an amazing week in this charming home last year with my family. It's a short walk from the beach and the village, yet privately situated on a country road. We cooked in a few nights and spent the others discovering the wonderful restaurants/pubs in Barnstable and surrounding towns. There's ample parking and comfortable sleeping arrangements. Looking forward to my next visit this summer.... Thanks for such a great vacation!
This is a beautiful home! The house is huge, and I felt like I was visiting an Old English manor country house. Character abounds every nook and crany of this quaint home by the bay. My family really enjoyed our stay. The washer and dryer were a real plus.
My sister's family stayed with us, and sleeping 10 people in this house was not a problem at all. We had space to spare as well as a huge yard for the kids to play in when we were not at the beach. We could walk downtown or to the beach. If you are looking for a family retreat, this is it!
