Three siblings and spouses own this historic spot, having spent summer vacations here with our parents; it was owned by relatives before that.

Liz purchased this house in 1950

We love it. It's roomy and cozy.

We enjoy varied restaurants, the Hyannis night life, live theatre, walks to the beach, sunsets on Cape Cod Bay, cocktails on Hyannis Harbor watching the boats come in. Sometimes we go whale watching or take a short drive to the ferry landing taking us to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard for the day or overnight.

Charming churches of all denominations near by. Playground a short walk from the house.

Wonderful Family Vacation Spot

  • 5 of 5
We rented this cottage with friends and had a total of 4 adults and 4 children. There was ample room for all of us so that we didn't feel like we were cramped or crowded. We loved the yard we had outside for the kids to run around and we built a bonfire every night. We used the full-size picnic table by the fire pit for almost every meal and enjoyed the sky full of stars in the evening. It is secluded but still very close (by foot or bike) to restaurants, a beach, and a harbor where we went on a fantastic whale watch. The tv is small and the washer/dryer is not new but for the price of this rental I was not expecting those kinds of amenities. We barely watched any tv because we were having so much fun outside anyway. We found the cottage clean and quaint (old but not rundown). I am looking forward to renting this cottage again next summer and would recommend it without hesitation!

very disappointed

We rented this house for a month. Upon arrival the house seemed quaint from the outside but the front yard was all grown up. The exterior covered area was covered in cob webs and just not clean. As you enter the kitchen, it became obvious that the house was not rennovated and not well kept. Upon closer examination there was a closet with tools and old stuff hanging out of it with a curtain trying to hide the mess. The washer and dryer are old and the control panel was taped on. The dining room and living room are spacious but there were wires everywhere and a tiny TV. The upstairs had a balcony with a wooden banister that was extremely loose and hazardous. There were clothes hanging on the railing as if someone was staying there. The bath was dark and the tub had years of stains and crud under the bath mat. The mattresses were old and the whole house had a smell that I don't want to discribe. Two of our party stayed one night and then we told the owners that the house was not acceptable and requested a retund. The numerous owners kept all our money and did not care that the house did not meet acceptable standards. I do not recommend you rent this place.

Owner's Response: We have been renting our property since 1999 and have never had a negative review. This renter booked the historic, NOT NEW carriage house in Feb. for 4-5 ppl. Maybe she thought that her money would be refunded if she found enough things unacceptable about it. As our contract states, we always address any major concerns as soon as possible and were willing to do this, but she would have none of it and repeatedly only sighted what she was unhappy about. Answers to her major concerns: 1. electric cords are out of the way of any foot traffic...they may be visible but pose no threat. 2. our minimal landscaping is manicured to our liking; bushes are groomed to provide privacy from foot and auto traffic 3. it may have been true that our housekeeping service wasn't as diligent as they could have been; RENTER HAD REQUESTED NO CLEANING SERVICE;SHE WOULD DO IT!But we did at our expense;she didn't give us the opportunity to call them & take care of issues. 4. Friend staying there was taking away his tools; H told me she offered to help him! He declined politely. She arrived a day early! 5. the stairs leading to the second floor I'm sure were 'code' at the time they were built and have been wide enough for all our guests and renters. 6. the closet she felt offensive is just that...a closet which has no door so we hang an ample size, charming curtain decorated with seashells. Closet holds coats. Renters move things around to their liking. 7. TV is not a flat screen hi def type; we had others but they 'disappeared'. Cable company would have been over the following day to check things. Was too bad about the debate, but sure any number of establishments in the area were airing it that night. 8. Bathroom light switch is just outside the door. Guess she didn't see it. We think the price we agreed on was fair for 4-5 people for 4 weeks. We don't feel we mis-represented anything on your website. We feel H's issues are unrealistic. We immediately removed her booking and tried to rerent, telling her she would only pay the difference. No rental occurred. We sent her the security deposit after her last day.

Perfect family getaway vacation

  • 4 of 5
My husband, 4 kids and I stayed two summers ago. We were captivated by the history of the house and former owners, the Cobb's. My husband and the kids took the path every afternoon through the field behind the house to the bench that honors Rita and Fran for donating all their land to the state. We have recommended this cottage to many friends and all have had a wonderful experience. One friend brought his new wife in September for a spectacular off-season honeymoon! The owners are always available to handle problems. We had a problem with water pressure in one of the bathrooms, and the out-of-state owners sent over a caretaker to fix the problem within an hour. I love hearing the trains pass by every day - so romantic! We will be back this summer! Can't wait!!!!!!!

Wonderful Escape

  • 5 of 5
Spent an amazing week in this charming home last year with my family. It's a short walk from the beach and the village, yet privately situated on a country road. We cooked in a few nights and spent the others discovering the wonderful restaurants/pubs in Barnstable and surrounding towns. There's ample parking and comfortable sleeping arrangements. Looking forward to my next visit this summer.... Thanks for such a great vacation!

Beautiful vacation home in a quaint setting!

  • 5 of 5
This is a beautiful home! The house is huge, and I felt like I was visiting an Old English manor country house. Character abounds every nook and crany of this quaint home by the bay. My family really enjoyed our stay. The washer and dryer were a real plus.
My sister's family stayed with us, and sleeping 10 people in this house was not a problem at all. We had space to spare as well as a huge yard for the kids to play in when we were not at the beach. We could walk downtown or to the beach. If you are looking for a family retreat, this is it!
