About The Owner

We have always loved going to 'The Lake' and enjoying all it has to offer. Whether to a Resort, Lake Home or camping, our family has alway looked forward to our next vacation at 'The Lake'. Fishing has been a passion since I was very young, courtesy of my late Grandfather. Resort owners while I was growing up, I alway was impressed by the way 'family' was always there. Fishing and family was alway a great combination. I have found the only thing I enjoy more than fishing is helping others enjoy it as much as I. Whether teaching, guiding or participating, the feeling is beyond description when I see the smile of someone as they catch their first trophy. My two Grandchildren endured many months of instruction with Grampa to learn to fish Bass. The greatest fishing trip was the weekend that each qualified as Master Anglers with the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame at the ages of 7 & 9 respectively on Birch Lake.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 1988

Why The Owner chose Walker

We searched many, many years for the 'right' location for our 'cabin'. Once we found the location that gave us Northwest access to a great lake, but also year round access to the property. We started to build our dream always keeping in mind my Grandparents. The result was what we hoped and realized would be a gathering spot for family and friends throughout the year.

Highly Recommended!

It was my year to plan the family vacation destination and I sure picked the perfect place! The cabin was beautiful inside and out with plenty of room for our 8 person family. The kitchen had anything you could ever need for cooking. The cabin was very clean and stocked with everything from shampoo to marshmellow roasting sticks to lots of extra linen in vacuum sealed bags. There were over 50 DVD's to pick from, surround sound even in the kitchen, and it was great having internet. The cabin is located in a quiet bay area on the lake-we only wished we had brought a kayak or canoe. We made the mistake of not booking a pontoon ahead of time, but we discovered Itasca State Park rented them so we enjoyed an afternoon there. At the cabin we saw loons, deer, eagles and caught a few bass and northern. We loved having ice cream at the Big Dipper in town and attending the town's annual book/craft festival. Tom was very friendly, flexible, and great to work with regarding everything. I would highly recommend this place to anyone...and the price rate is great! Thanks for everything!

Good place to vacation

  • 4 of 5
Pros: Price, nice large lake with clear water and fish in it, large lake home, keyless entry to home, 2 bathrooms, electric motor plug-ins on the dock, stocked kitchen cupboards and air conditioning, large dining room table which fit 8 comfortably, they let us check-in early and check-out late, they called us back with instructions when we couldn't get the internet working.

Cons:They don't list nearly everything you want/need on their website, so you either have to ask ahead of time or pack it anyway and find out they already have it (such as a hair dryer, cooking spices and a blender), no glass recycling - you have to take yours home to recycle it, the fridge leaked water on the floor and the ice-maker did not make ice, I was woken up by a scared, frantic squirrel in the window well who could not get out because the sides are completely metal inside and luckily we had a wildlife biologist and several animal lovers with us who rescued it, along with over 15 frogs and toads who were stuck down there (these window wells should have animal-friendly toppers as it was an obvious animal graveyard with several dead frogs at the bottom --also there were 2 frogs suck between the bedroom screen and window as there are holes in the screens and we had to free those and release them outside too), no boats of any kind at the lake home for guest use including kayak, canoe, paddle boat, row boat, fishing boat or pontoon (I would recommend you call ahead to local marine rental places because most are booked by the time you get there), the prices listed for one marine boat rental listed in the blue booklet in the home are outdated (2012) and not accurate anymore, I would say this home is not totally baby-proofed, so don't bring toddlers or watch out for hanging cords, not always enough silverware for a family of 8, not much of a lakeview from the lake home, the fire pit has no lakeview, you have to be careful to not use the appliances all at once in the kitchen (instructions are in their blue booklet in the home), and 3 of the 4 bedrooms are too small to put the cot in, so if you have to sleep 2 upstairs who don't share a bed, you have to haul the cot up there.

Owner's Response: We appreciate the feedback and always look to our guests for ways to improve their experience. The fresh view helps us see what is important and obvious to our rental guests, yet hidden from us by familiarity. Thank you!

Even Better Than We Imagined!

  • 5 of 5
We just spent a few days at Tom and Carol's cabin. It was beyond wonderful! The pictures are gorgeous but don't even compare to the real thing. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed and is so conveniently located to nearby towns. The firepit area, the multiple decks, the dock...everything was just great!! We enjoyed being inside and out. Tom was so very helpful before our stay and with questions we had once we arrived. We will definitely recommend Tom and Carol's place to anyone we know and plan on returning again next year!!

Wonderful lake home!

  • 5 of 5
This home was even better than the photos! The lower level family room offered a quiet second spot for conversation. The deck provided dining space for 8, and the lower patio and fire pit areas are beautifully landscaped. The home was exceptionally clean, the kitchen's large frig and gas range made cooking easy, and having laundry on site was super convenient. Everything you could imagine to make the home comfortable was there---from the large stock pot and BBQ tools to the cutting board specifically for fish cleaning. The owner's information book was complete and helpful, and the stack of local brochures made it easy to plan activites. We caught northern and bass even though it was a little late in the summer. We really appreciated having electricity on the dock for recharging the trolling motor too. Thank you, Tom and Carol, for an enjoyable week up north!

Weekend retreat

  • 5 of 5
This place is truly amazing, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, the house is well furnished, and the selection of current DVD's made for fun movie nights. The wildlife was impressive, multiple deer sightings and a variety of birds, including bald eagles.
We would recommend this place to others, and we are planning to return.

Great Place for Family Downtime

  • 5 of 5
My family stayed at the cabin for the weekend in February to attend a wedding at the nearby casino. We were thrilled with our choice to steer clear of the casino hotel & rent this cabin. It had all of the amenities of a fully stocked residence. We have stayed at several cabins found on VBRO & this one definitely was the best stocked from kitchen utensils to bedding to bathroom linens to videos. We didn't want for anything. Also, the cabin is a great condition & very clean. We would love to stay there again.

Lastly the owner was a pleasure to deal with. The process of securing the cabin was streamlined & easy. All communications were prompt. And on top of all this he was very flexible and generous about check in/check out times due to severely cold weather. While we did have an issue with water pressure while we were there due to the extreme cold (-20 NOT including wind chill) Tom was very helpful even to the point of starting to drive up to help out.
