We are all season outdoor adventurers. We love hiking, backpacking, nordic and downhill skiing, street and mountain biking, boating, and fishing. We discovered Seward back in '05 and found the scenery and friendly people irresistible.
Steve and Pati Hinds purchased this house in 2006
We built this home in 2006. A simple and functional floor plan on our 3 acre property. It's a quiet rural neighborhood with lots of open space on the edge of the Alaskan Wilderness.
When staying at our house you have access to free fire wood, extra clothing (if needed), rubber boots , sleeping bags and pads, and even bear spray!
Our family including 3 children in their 20s enjoyed 4 nights at this cabin this August. The rooms we spacious and nicely decorated. The kitchen was functional for making 3 meals a day. It was stocked with many spices and condiments for our use. Internet was great. Steve was very helpful, lighting an outdoor bonfire every night that we had clear weather which was often. Due to flooding, we did not have views of the river because of a gravel berm that was built for water control. That was no problem, we climbed the berm for great views.
We love this place most of the time we just slept there, but the time we were there,Patti and Steve were awesome, always aiming to please.thanks so much for the nightly fires and the amazing fish.
We stayed here with 2 couples, a teenage, and 2 small children. It worked out great as far as space. Having 2 bathrooms was nice. We appreciated being able to eat some meals in because Seward restaurants proved to be quite pricey. We found everything we needed within the house. Gas grill ready to use on the porch, extra camping mats for if you need people to sleep on the floor, extra towels and sheets, washer and dryer, and a chest freezer with a variety of fish (we didn't use any but the owners said we were welcome to grill some up). There is a nice area for campfires (which the owners offered to start up for us) but it was rainy literally every minute of our stay in Seward. Our little ones had fun playing in the rain (children's umbrellas were inside the house) and the owner allowed them to pick strawberries and flowers from the garden which they loved. The walk along the river out back was nice and I'm sure the views would be much better without the fog/rain. The property was 5 minutes to town/grocery store but secluded enough that you felt like you were "away from it all". There is a variety of movies and cable (maybe satelite?) TV. The only issue we had is that the inside did smell a little cigarette smoke (despite it being a smoke free property). It was mainly in the entryway and we got used to it, but it was slightly disappointing when we were expecting smoke-free. All in all, we would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a Seward getaway.
We spent 2 nights. The accommodations were excellent. The facility was clean, well kept, with comfortable bedding. The location is an easy drive into Seward. Steve came and checked on us and started our fire the first night. We visited with him about our plans for fishing. When we got back from a nice meal in Seward he had placed some motion sickness medication on the table for us if we needed it. Great stay, beautiful setting, will try to stay there again if I am spending time in Seward!
this is a nice place to stay. The location is great if you want a home base in the Seward area. There are a lot of activities to do in the area (i.e. kayaking, hiking, shopping, biking) and most are within a 15 minute drive from this property. The property is located in a residential area and is very quite. The owners were very responsive to our needs (especially when the waterwell went out at 3AM). The house came well equipped with everything you could want including lots of nice linens, food stuffs in the fridge and cupboards, extra rain coats in the closet, etc. I would stay there again if I were to return to the area. That is the good news. The bad news is the photos are a bit deceiving in that the house does not have a view of the river. There is a huge mound of dirt/river rock between the house and the river (I guess for flood control). And when you climb over the hill there is a ten foot vertical drop down to the water. We did not really mind this because after long days of hiking in the wet & snow we did not really want to get into the cold creek anyway. There is a nice fire pit with lots of wood between the house and the hill but don't expect to sit there and watch the river go by during those long Alaskan days. The only other negative thing we experienced was the property was advertised as non-smoking. This was not the case because the place reeked of cigarette smoke. This was a real bummer for many people in our group. I hope the owners correct this or at least correct their add. In their defense the problem could have been caused by the very previous renter, which would have been very inconsiderate of others.
Our stay at this home was perfect for us. The house was comfortable, neat and included everything we needed for our stay. The property also included an outside firepit with lots of firewood so we could have a fire each evening as we relaxed after a long, busy day of fun in Seward. Steve, the property owner, was available during our stay to help us start our fire when we needed help. He also made us feel welcome which is appreciated when spending a long time away from home. We were impressed with his generosity and care.
