We're social workers who love to visit our relaxing beach home to escape demanding jobs. We have two dogs, Lucy and Callie, who are great travel companions and tons of fun! They just love walking on the beach, which, coincidentally is our favorite activity too!
Before we bought this house we stayed in homes and hotels up and down the Oregon coast. Yachats became our favorite destination thanks to its small town atmosphere coupled with its proximity to larger coast cities Florence and Newport.
When we first found this home we loved its proximity to the ocean and the view it provided, but thought it didn't look like all that much from the outside. Walking into the home, though, made us fall in love with it. The natural light is wonderful, and the layout allows people to stay connected even as they engage in different activities. Even though it is not huge, it feels spacious.
We also value the accessiblity features - we chuckled a bit when we were buying it about it being good for our advancing years - then I had hip replacement surgery and it was the perfect place to recover!
Yachats offers both rocky and sandy beaches allowing for stunning views. Yachats itself is a friendly town with several wonderful restaurants (our favorite is Ona), art galleries and a variety of hiking trails, sights to see and other fun activities.
Our favorite thing about this house is falling asleep to the sound of the ocean; we never sleep better than when we're here. We particularly enjoy the dedicated path running by our house that leads to a staircase to the beach - we take our pups and some champagne to watch the sun set over the water. We're at the end of a dead end street in a quiet neighborhood which gives us a feeling of privacy, but we're really close to activities and restaurants.
We love that we can be in the kitchen preparing a meal and still be part of all the activity and enjoy the view. The ceiling fans are helpful on warmer days and nights but it's a really comfortable home year-round.
Nestled between the lush forested mountains of the Coast Range and the lapping waves of the Pacific surf, the charming little village of Yachats opens a window to the environment. It is the ideal place for rest, relaxation and renewal, discovery and romance.
'The quiet, unhurried atmosphere of this tiny ocean front resort village offers vacationers a peaceful retreat from the hustle of city life and a friendly alternative to the impersonal quality of a large coastal community.
The uncrowded beaches of the Yachats area are promising for agate and fossil hunting, birding, hiking and strolling, fishing, clamming, kite flying or picnicking. Its basalt headlands meet some of the most dramatic surf action in the world, attracting photographers and storm watchers, especially during the spectacular winter storms that arrive in December, January, and February.
