PRIVATE COTTAGE 3 BLOCKS FROM THE QUARTER

New Orleans Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

In the historic Faubourg Marigny, three blocks from the French Quarter and one block from the Jazz on Frenchman Street. Built in 1911 and renovated this year with a walk in shower, granite and copper countertops, and a plaster finish in the bedroom. We kept the original details, like rough hewn beams made of barge wood.

The location is ideal for exploring the city during festivals. There is a trolley stop 3 blocks away, plenty of Taxis on Frenchman Street, and we provide 2 loaner bicycles so you can explore the city like a local. We are in a great area and it's easy to access all areas of the city from here. If you're flying in and are just going to be exploring the city then you really don't need to rent a car. There are plenty of places to eat, buy groceries, and pick up anything you may need for your stay within walking distance. Taxi ride from the airport to here is about $30 per 2 persons. If you do need a car or are driving in parking is usually easy on our block, but off street parking is an option. If you don't fee like cooking, walk to one of the nearby cafes or order in. You can find Turkish, Vietnamese, tapas, Thai, vegetarian, classic Creole, German, Italian or Mexican food within a 6 block radius.

We live in the front house and can address questions or concerns if they arise. From our perspective, this neighborhood blends the best of New Orleans. If you have sent a request for dates and tried to email us back to book with no response, then please call me. We are experiencing problems with VRBO's new set up for emails and are not recieving emails coming back wanting to rent the property.

Keywords: Near the French Quarter, one block from jazz on Frenchman Street. Walk down a driveway and through a leafy courtyard with hot tub and pond to your cottage. It's close to the excitement of Jazzfest, Mardi Gras, the Superbowl, Satchmofest...

We are an easy going couple in our 40's. He restores outdoor sculptures, classic cars and makes furniture. She is a neuroscientist and writer.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2011

Besides the reasons mentioned, it is one the best preserved historic districts in the country. Apparently this was the neighborhood where the fine gentleman of the French Quarter kept their mistresses.

As mentioned, we have 2 bicycles we can loan you for exploring the quarter or riding to JazzFest. We love this city and are happy to help you have a good visit. It's the best neighborhood we have found in the city.

IDEAL LOCATION FOR AUTHENTIC NOLA LIVING--WALK ANY DIRECTION & BE ENCHANTED--DELIGHTFUL FOR DOGS!

IDEAL LOCATION FOR AUTHENTIC NOLA LIVING--WALK ANY DIRECTION & BE ENCHANTED--DELIGHTFUL FOR DOGS!

ME: Female artist/retired teacher with white shepherd/husky. Veteran vacation home renter.
YOU: Not a typical tourist. Prefer unique accommodations over expensive cookie-cutter hotels. Seek value, don't need "posh." Care more about the experience than the amenities. Appreciate--or at least respect--alternative lifestyles. Embrace local culture.
THE COTTAGE: Open the wrought-iron front gate, walk alongside the main house and through the tall wooden gate, enter a small patio (shared with main house) with outdoor seating, hot tub, plants & water feature. To the side is a laundry room, storage & bike parking. Enter the cottage door to discover the rustic, open-concept, two-story quarters. Furnishings are an eclectic mix of thrift store finds, hand-crafted pieces, and salvaged goods. The entertainment system is way better than any hotel. [I don't cook, so can't critique the kitchen but it seemed well-stocked.] The groovy old staircase requires good mobility/balance, but is worth the climb up to a huge bedroom with soaring beamed ceilings, a wall of closets, and comfy bed. The bathroom's shower cleverly repurposes old windows. Most of the cottage's original charm has been preserved. If you hear creaks in the night it's not a burglar--it's probably the old wooden floors. Sadly, the bedroom windows don't open for breezes but there's a ceiling fan. Main house resident Chad has put his craftsmanship to good use in creating this funky cottage!
THE LOCATION: In a word, FABULOUS. Enchanting area of quaint shotgun homes, cobbled sidewalks, and friendly folks. It felt safe. [WARNING: Due to its popular location PARKING IS A FRUSTRATING CRAPSHOOT. If you score a spot near the cottage, don't move your car!] Walking to Frenchmen St., the Cabrini Dog Park and the French Quarter is an easy joy. Even better is strolling around the marvelous Marigny & Bywater neighborhoods, full of amazing architecture, corner bars, cafes, shops, parks, bizarre attractions. Chad steered me to many local treasures. NOLA residents are the friendliest, most creative, eccentric, free-spirited folks I've ever encountered! Dogs are welcome many places, and appreciated everywhere.
MY FAVES: The Joint BBQ, Cake Cafe & Bakery, The Country Club for eats. Anywhere on Frenchmen St. for music (you'll hear it echoing all the way to the cottage each night.) Krewe du Vieux, 'Tit Rex, and Chewbacchus neighborhood parades during Carnival Season.

Perfect Location

I loved Chad's cottage. This was the perfect get-away for my significant other and me. The cottage is a well-appointed, spacious, private one-bedroom apartment. The bed was very comfortable, the linens high thread count. A previous reviewer commented on the tepid water, but my handy man was able to fix the valves responsible for the hot water issue. Parking on street can be a bit challenging on the weekend, but we found places on Elysian Fields just a couple of blocks away. The cottage is ideal for pet owners, for a green space dividing Elysian Fields is just a short walk away. We really enjoyed biking around the Marigny, the Bywater, and the French Quarter. One of the bikes provided to us (the boy bike), however, has bad bearings and won't perform too much longer. I would recommend bringing a bike (the girl bike was in ok condition). I bought my cruiser from Wal Mart for $99. We will be back to rent this awesome place again. The Joint, Elizabeth's, and Vaughn's were our favorite places (barbecue, breakfast, shots of tequila, respectively).

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. The bike has been fixed and there is no need to buy a bike to ride while you are here. If you would like to bring your own bike then you are more than welcomed. We always try to make everyones stay great. We love this city and like helping others see why it is a beloved city. Thanks Chad

We loved this place. Set off the street, so quiet, but really convenient to walk to so many of the places we love to visit.
The cottage was clean and well maintained, the sound system was excellent, and tuned to our favorite station (WWOZ) when we arrived.
Chad was very helpful.

Lovely Christmas stay with my pup Lily!

My pup Lily and I stayed here for Christmas and had a wonderful time. The space is exactly as represented - nice and cozy with good books (including a few guides to New Orleans restaurants, etc), TV, stereo, comfy bed, and peaceful outdoor space (although we couldn't make much use of that as it was pretty cold!). The location is wonderful - a quick walk to Cafe du Monde for morning coffee and beignets, or anything else in the French Quarter. Also close to some great spots in the Bywater, including Bacchanal Wine. Will definitely stay here again if I come back through New Orleans!
