About Ross Raderstorf

Hello,

My name is Ross Raderstorf and I am the owner of Casita Helena. My wife and I have spent the last two years renovating this fantastic property. Although it had been neglected in the past decade, we have now restored it and brought it back to its original glory. This gave us great satisfaction.....seing the original oak floors come back to life through refinishing them, giving both the interior and exterior a fresh coat of paint, planting new trees and shrubs.

I took on this project once I decided to retire from teaching after 25 years in a local public school district. I find renovation work highly rewarding. I also enjoy meeting people who come from all over the world and provide whatever they need to make their stay enjoyable and memorable.

We make Tucson our home and live fairly close to Casita Helena. Together with our two daughters (age 13 & 11) we sometimes check in to the casita for a staycation ourselves, making a shopping trip along 4th Avenue, taking in a musical concert at the U of A campus, or heading on foot downtown for great meal.

Ross Raderstorf purchased this apartment in 2010
Why Ross Raderstorf chose Tucson

We knew this property had great potential. We loved the courtyard area and the fact that all 4 units shared this common space. Expanding the courtyard to the rear of the property completly changed the space. Because of Tucson's mild winter weather, we created an outdoor room that can be enjoyed all season long. We love to sit in the courtyard and hear birds singing from all sides of the property. There is room for several groups of people to enjoy the space at the same time, but yet still have their own privacy. Casita Helena also has a basement apartment (rare for Tucson) that has been converted into a laundry room for the property.

What makes this apartment unique

Casita Helena is in a great location for central Tucson. It is conveniently located near the University of Arizona main campus (6 blocks), the University Medical Center (9 blocks) and the 4th Avenue shopping district (5 blocks). The new street car project (scheduled for completion in 2013) will connect all the above areas and continue on through the downtown district, onto the Menlo Park area west downtown. Since the street car stop will be four blocks from the casita, it will be easy for our guests to enjoy easy access to central Tucson without having to get in a car.

Lovely property in a great location

We spent a week at Casita Helena and enjoyed it very much. It is within easy walking distance of the very vibrant 4th St. with its many wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and stores. You can get almost anywhere easily from this location.

The casita is small but clean and comfortable. We only ate our breakfasts there but you could cook basic meals as well. A washer and dryer are also available at no extra charge.

Ross, our host, was very helpful in providing suggestions for sites to see, excellent places to eat and he even provided two bicycles for us to explore Tucson's excellent cycling infrastructure. When we arrived, the fridge was stocked with bottled water and there fruit and a selection of snacks.

The courtyard provided a quite shady place to relax or eat outdoors.

We enjoyed our stay at Casita Helena and would highly recommend it to others wishing to spend time in Tucson.

My husband and I stayed at the casita while vacationing in Tucson for ten days with our 9 month old baby. We had the pleasure of meeting Ross and his wife during our stay. They put A LOT of effort into details that were above and beyond what we expected. The casita was impeccably clean with luxury bedding and all of the necessities to make for a more than comfortable stay. We highly recommend Helena Casita for anyone visiting Tucson that wants to be walking distance to the University and 4th Avenue area.

I was fortunate to stay a week at Casita Helena, and then 2 weeks at Casita Emmalia. Both places were excellent as to location, cleanliness, quality and function of furnishings including the kitchen, and overall maintenance. The photos were accurate as was the description. Ross was the perfect host...friendly, helpful and always just a phone call away. He was there to greet me and show me around when I arrived on the first evening, and it was nice to have a few breakfast items there to start the first day. I would stay here again and highly recommend. Jim

Really Fine Experience

This casita and location are ideally situated within walking or biking distance of the U o fA campus, and the hip 4th Ave and downtown Tucson areas. The hosts ensure that you are equipped with everything you need to get started exploring Tucson on day one, rather than spending your first hours shopping for household or personal items. The casita is situated less than a block from designated bike routes, of which Tucson has an abundance. Although I had rented a car, I was able to get around on several days during my 2 week visit using a bicycle alone. In addition to being well equipped, this casita is very clean, very private, and secure. There is a common enclosed court yard where you can sit outside and read, or just enjoy the sun. Although not a large space, this casita is perfect for an individual or couple who are looking for an economical alternative to a hotel. You are at once close to the urban vibe of Tucson, but also able to escape from it. You are also vey close to hiking trails and mountains which ring city. I am headed back next year.....
