Samara House Rental Photos and Description
Beach House with 5 Bedroom Suites + 6 Baths (Sleeps 10-12) All have pool view.
Hacienda Punta Indio is located on 60 acres of pristine jungle and is located 8 minutes from the center of Samara. The property is elevated, accessed by a wide paved road, and is perched on the hillside of half-way between the two local beaches of Playa Samara and Playa Carrillo. Both beaches are within easy walking distance or a very short drive, plus there is a path to a third private beach called Half Moon Bay. Hacienda Punta Indio is a 6-bedroom ranch-style house and it is surrounded by 60-acres. Surrounding the house are a series of walking trails that lead to vistas overlooking Carrillo Beach, Samara Beach, and the open ocean.
Soak up the views from the comfort of your infinity-edge pool. The pool at Hacienda Punta is so well-positioned that you will want to enjoy it from sunrise to well beyond sunset. The view of Samara Beach and the vast green canopy will keep you mesmerized for hours.
The house is a Spanish-style one-level house with the kitchen, living room, dining room together at one end. Near the kitchen is a laundry room, an air-conditioned pantry, and a convenient washroom. At the far end of the house are 4 separate bedroom suites. Each suite is self-contained with a king-size bed, a washroom and shower, its own front door and back door, remote-control air-conditioning, a side table and lamp, along with plenty of storage space. Each bedroom suite is very quiet and because they have their own separate entrance (and key), everyone is guaranteed plenty of personal space. Doors open to the front and have a pool view. The back doors open onto a back deck with a view of the green jungle canopy and a grove of mango trees that is a favorite place for monkeys to hang out in. Open up both doors for great airflow. A fifth bedroom is located near the dining room. It has a sitting room, an ensuite bathroom, and its windows have a view of the mango grove as well. The house has internet through a wireless router. Reception is excellent as a tower is very close. Costa Rica has excellent internet infrastructure so connections are reliable 99% of the time (power surges can happen however).
The pool is large enough to comfortably accommodate a group of 10 and because it is salt-water, there is very little chlorine smell. From the pool, you can enjoy great views of Samara Beach, impressive both at day and night. The sunsets are incredible!!!
In the house's main living area, there are three sets of large folding wooden doors which open up to make a huge living space, connecting the indoors with the outdoors. This very large living area works especially well for a group or large family.
The rooms are quiet, the infinity-edge pool is absolutely fabulous and there is a paved driveway right to the carport, but please note that this is NOT a 5-star accommodation. It is not outfitted with fine furnishings or gold-plated faucets; it is designed to be simple, comfortable, and functional. Its peaceful, natural surroundings are well suited to those on a yoga retreat, nature photographers, bird-watchers, people seeking an out-of-the-way spot who like to explore on their own or a group who is looking for something different. If some people wish to retire early at night, they can be assured of a quiet room, and their own en-suite bathroom.
The property has several well-maintained walking trails, each leading to a lookout point and a great view of the ocean. Check out Google Earth map to get an idea of the size and proportions of the peninsula. The house, with its red roof, is visible in the centre of it, and you can also see the various walking paths. Hacienda Punta Indio is located between two fantastic beaches, Samara and Carrillo. It's an easy walk to either one, though most people prefer to drive. (The driveway is quite steep due to it's high elevation.) It is not a difficult walk though, and is an enjoyable way to watch monkeys, squirrels and iguanas en route.
Hacienda Punta Indio is a great place for families to hang out in. Its large covered porch provides plenty of shade throughout the day and its very large dining room is centrally located, with plenty of seating. Comfy sofas, several lounge chairs and a hammock all provide good places for book-readers. One of the things we've noticed over the years is that because there is so few houses nearby, the sky is dark enough for great stargazing. We have often spotted falling stars. Watching storms in the distance from the pool by day and stars at night is fantastic.
At the entrance, there is a completely private gate providing access to only the Punta Indio beach house. There is also a house perimeter alarm system and a room safe.
The kitchen, while very basic, has most things you will need during your stay, including a gas barbecue. A unique feature is a walk-in air-conditioned pantry for food storage. Next to it is a laundry room.
Monkeys are usually never very far away and can often be heard, and usually found, somewhere on the Punta Indio property. It is possible to see families of monkeys in the trees by the pool, other times they are hanging out in the trees near the driveway. Iguanas ('gorobos' more accurately) are frequently seen scooting into culverts near the carport. And at night, small owls like to fly from the roof and dart past the pool lights, looking for any flying insects. It is truly a nature-lover's paradise. Regarding insects: because of the property's higher elevation, there are noticeably fewer mosquitoes here than down at beach-level restaurants in the evening.
A car is definitely recommended as restaurants in Samara and Carrillo are a 10-minute drive away. Restaurant choice is excellent: there are several Italian restaurants, Mexican, sushi, as well as some fun bars and nightlife right on the beach. Samara also has various grocery stores, boutique shops, a butcher, two ATMs and one bank, three bakeries, a gelato shop, several Internet cafes, a spa, massage on the beach, zip-lining in the nearby Samara hillside. The restaurants range from basic pizzarias to high-end. You can even find a wine bar. Carrillo has some excellent restaurants as well. Ask me for my info sheet on Restaurant Tips.
Boogie boarding and surfing are popular and both beaches offer great boogie-boarding. Carrillo has no development on it but Samara has at least 4 surf schools. There are many good restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a cool drink with your feet right in the sand. Pura Vida!

About Mary-Ellen Meyers
The 60 acres on Punta Indio is owned by a small group of mostly Canadians. We built the beach house and its infinity-edge pool in 1995 and, for more than a decade our families have spent our winter vacations there. It is a great place for extended families or for 3 or 4 couples. When our families became too large for us to all fit in this house, we each built a home on the 7 acres of Samara Reefs gated community. Hacienda Punta Indio remains a wonderful, special paradise.

Why Mary-Ellen Meyers chose Samara
We chose this location because of its incredible location in between Samara and Carrillo. The peninsula is absolutely spectacular, with its many trails leading to awesome views of Playa Samara, Playa Carrillo, the small island of Isla Chora, and the open ocean. The property comprises 60+ acres, which are like a private wildlife reserve, filled with monkeys and birdlife. Being located half-way between Playa Carrillo and Playa Samara, it is very easy to visit both beaches. When we built the house, many of us had small children at the time so we built a pool that would be very child-friendly and included a shallow 'beach' for sitting. The house is ideal for children and we have some very special memories.
For groups, this house works extremely well; all suites have an ensuite bathroom and are self-contained. The social area is large enough for 12 people easily. It is a 7-minute drive to Samara on all paved roads, it's an easy walk to beach, and being a bit away from the the action in town, it is a bit of a 'retreat'. After a busy day playing at the beach, there is nothing better than coming back to your personal, private paradise here at Punta Indio. Nothing beats soaking in its warm, salt-water pool and gazing out at its truly spectacular view.
The Punta Indio property has been for sale for about 15 years but because of the 2006 real estate market crash, it very likely will be many many years before we find a buyer. It is a very special piece of property. Rest assured, if we did receive an offer on the property (which is extremely unlikely), we would honour all reservations that have been made and refrain from making any new ones.
What makes this house unique
