About the Owner: I have been going to Mammoth for 30 years. Would love to help you with any questions. It is world class ski mountain. 1 minute walk to Canyon Lodge, Gondola to Village and free shuttle and of course the incredible views.
My husband and I just spent 10 days at this condo, working during the week and hiking on Memorial Day weekend. So we needed a place with good internet access, a place we wouldn't mind spending a lot of time indoors, and lots of activities right outside our door for lunch breaks and evening hikes.
The location is amazing; one of the best on this luxury property because it is on the 1st floor facing the mountain so gorgeous views and EASY access right out the slider to get outdoors. I can only imagine how crazy perfect it would be during ski season.
Regarding the interior of the unit, it's even nicer than what it looks like in the VRBO pictures. The stonework on the fireplace, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. is very high end custom work. I also appreciated all of the storage space in this unit. It is really uncluttered while having the critical things like laundry detergent, cooking oil and basic cooking ingredients, great pots and pans, good wine glasses, plenty of untensils and kitchen gadgets, etc.
This was an ideal place for 2 couples. We had friends join us for Memorial Day Weekend and could offer them a bedroom which as just as nice as the master - both king sized beds, flat screen TVs, beautiful bathrooms, and luxury linens. The front desk employee was really helpful in giving me suggestions for hiking. We did 2 different hikes: Sherwin Lake and Rock Creek. If you visit Mammoth in the summertime, do not miss the Rock Creek hiking (near Crowley Lake..). The goal: get to the trail head early and be done with your hiking by 2pm and visit a place called Pie In the Sky before the pies are sold out...google it :) Sounds touristy but it is one of the best days I've ever had hiking.
One last note. The reviews regarding the owner, Doug being helpful are true too. He checked in with us and went out of his way to make sure we were happy so we were guaranteed a memorable holiday. 5 stars.
This was truly our home away from home.
This had all the amenities you need and more. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay in your condo
We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay while skiing at Mammoth. Location was ideal just steps from Canyon Lodge. Views of the ski slopes, gondola, and mountain from both the living room and master bedroom were to die for. The kitchen appliances and equipment were better quality than most private homes. Leather couches in the living room were very comfortable as were the beds. You could tell the owner thought about everything that a guest could need based on the guide book in the unit and labeling of everything. Even the coffee maker came with water and filter pre-loaded. My wife, who doesn't like skiing or cold weather, said she would definitely come back to Mammoth every year, only we could stay here again.
We just returned from a 6 night stay at unit 103 in the 1849 condos with our 2 kids. The location right across from Canyons Lodge was perfect - short enough of a walk that our young kids didn't complain, and having the locker for skis/poles was really convenient. We made great use of the hot tub (indoor and outdoor), washer/dryer in the unit, and the Keurig:) We even rented a movie at the front desk on a really cold afternoon. The place was plenty big for the 4 of us and having a full kitchen was really helpful for breakfasts and some dinners. It was super easy to take the gondola down to the Village for dinner and then take the trolley back. We'd definitely go back.
Our Family just spent four nights at Doug's condo and couldn't be happier with our stay. Doug was extremely communicative and responsive from our initial inquiry through checkout. It is clear that he takes his guests' satisfaction very seriously and he does a good job at making sure of it.
The condo has been recently updated and is the perfect blend of having all the creature comforts but with a "refined-rustic" feel to it as evidenced by the leather couches, burl wood coffee table, and choice of granite counters and stone tile flooring. All is very tastefully done without being "over-the-top", making it a luxurious yet eminently livable space. The size and layout is perfect for two couples or a small family.
The location is unparalleled. It may be the closest condo to Canyon Lodge (+/- 50 yards), allowing a leisurely stroll to take in morning runs, and then back to the condo for lunch instead of hassling with the crowds and paying the lodge's prices. That HAS to be taken into consideration when you calculate the savings of feeding a family of four on the slopes over four days.
I could go on, but it suffices to say that our experience leads me to say that your business dealings with this property owner will be fair and hassle free, and you won't be disappointed with the condo. Book with confidence.
First off, our experience with communicating with Doug to get everything squared away was nothing short of perfect. He responds to emails and texts quickly.
We've been to Mammoth a handful of times in the past few years and this, by far, was the best cabin/condo we've stayed in. The covered garage parking was great and I am sure it will be even more helpful when it is snowing. I was surprised to see the available bell hop luggage carts, which we used to empty out our car for one easy trip to the unit. The moment we walked into the unit, no one could contain their "ooooooh's" and "ahhhh's" and "wow's!" It's true that the pictures don't do this place justice. Perhaps a video walk-through of the unit can be added to the gallery? Doug did not skimp on anything when decorating the unit. Like other reviewers have said, everything you literally need is included. The condo was cozy and filled with just the right amount of luxuries and impeccably clean. With included WiFi, I was able to answer work emails on my laptop when needed. The option to "rent" DVD's from the lobby was a nice touch, but if you have a Netflix account, you can access your library through the Bluray player menu interface (one player in living room and one player in master bedroom) and watch it on the 55" Samsung flat screen. The fireplace was clean and worked perfectly. The steam shower in the master bath was the icing on the cake. Although there wasn't that much snow, we still had a great time and staying in this condo just added to the trip.
We are hoping to book another trip early next year when the mountain is covered with snow and hopefully we can rent this condo again.
