In the summer, the community's private swim club (Sun Mountain) is near-by and features an L-shaped, Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, and picnic tables. We are located by the Shawnee Mountains where spring, summer and fall festivals happen. In the Shawnee area you will find more than six golf destinations including the historic Shawnee Inn & Golf, Water Gap Country Club, Country Club of the Poconos, Great Bear Golf, Mountain Manor Golf and Pocono Manor Golf, to name a few! In addition, families may want to visit the Lakota Wolf Preserve, three miles from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a 70,000-acre park preserve 40 miles along the Delaware River. Couples may want to visit Pocono Palace (only three miles away) and enjoy dance bands and comedians. Gals and Guys Only Groups often come to just get away from it all and simply relax at the house, play paint ball, gable at the casino, shop at The Crossings or go to Mountain Creek Park. It's also the place for walking, biking, wildlife viewing, fishing, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking at Shawnee (weather permitting).
From the private back deck, come enjoy views of the mountains. This end-unit town home feels like a rustic cabin and is located within the vacation community known as Northslope II and is across from Shawnee Mountain which features monthly festivals and concerts in the fall and skiing in the winter. It is very close to Bushkill Falls, Mountain Creek Water Park, the Pocono Environmental Education Center, the McDade hiking, biking, and cross country ski trail and Fernwood Resort.
In the summer, the community's private swim club (Sun Mountain) is near-by and features an L-shaped, Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, and picnic tables in the summer. Shawnee is also a wonderful place to do everything--see a play, fish for trout, shop at the famous Crossings Outlet, go antique collecting, take a trolley ride, or play a round of golf at the Shawnee Inn. Enjoy great restaurants, pubs, and wineries.
This award-winning, professionally designed two bedroom plus loft town home includes a king-size bed in the master with en-suite spa room--a two-person whirlpool tub & bathroom with shower & toilet. The second floor also features a loft with queen size sleeper sofa & private access to the toilet & shower. There is also a desk and TV in the loft. The first floor bedroom, the bear & moose room, has two twin beds that can convert to a king bed; adjoining full bathroom.
A very special vacation property: Let me start by saying that we are asked this all the time: yes, the town-home looks like the pictures you see! This upscale, green-built, end-unit town-home was decorated by an award-winning designer and featured in New York's 'House Magazine.' The home's charm is created by its cozy fireplace, comfortable Amish and Pennsylvania House furnishings, whimsical bear art, antiques, and rustic cedar accents.
The traditional and vintage decor is mixed with many modern features: two-person whirlpool spa room with his-and-her spa robes and linens; 40-inch Sharp 'Aquos' television in the Great Room; WiFi, and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.
Relaxation Details: The Dining Room and Great Room each comfortably seat six people. For those who wish to cook, the fully-equipped kitchen opens to the Dining Room and Great Room, so you can prepare meals, wash dishes, or throw away paper plates while being able to socialize with your guests.
Miscellaneous Details: For those not familiar with Shawnee, it is a four-season resort--you can enjoy nature at its best, but also experience fine dining, outlet shopping, day spas, golfing, antiquing, fly fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, gambling or just pamper yourself and do nothing! Conveniently located off Route 80 and only 70 miles from NYC, you won't find traffic at Shawnee, and you can easily access all the major attractions. During the winter even if you don't ski, it sure is fun to watch a crackling fireplace, view the amber-lit ski trails filled with snow, see the forest and mountains from the deck, and just return to a more relaxed state of mind.
And finally, the house is always stocked with candy, household supplies, books, music, DVD's, and board games, so come play checkers or have a board game tournament. Since we work very hard to maintain 'Second Chance Cabin' as a unique vacation destination, we think you will find it feels like a home-away-from-home!
Local Attractions: Northslope II guests have use of the year-round Indoor Pool/Hot Tub and Discounts for Golf at Shawnee Inn and Discounts for Skiing, Snow Boarding/Tubing at Shawnee Mt. In the summer, Private Swim Club & Tennis Courts included. Shawnee is an historic community, many different activities including but not limited to Antique Shopping, Trolley Tours, Live Concerts, and Festivals at Shawnee Resort next door, flea markets, outlet mall (10 minutes away), race car driving, Mount Airy Lodge Casino near-by and much more! It's a fun house for sitting by the fireplace in the fall and winter or sitting outside on the deck in the spring and summer. It's a fun place to enjoy a more simpler time, perhaps a night of Board Games--Monopoly anyone!
The nearby McDade trail now offers cross country skiing. About five miles away, visit the Lakota Wolf Preserve in Columbia, NJ. Three miles away is the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a 70,000-acre park preserve 40 miles along the Delaware River.

About Nancie Balun
I survived a brain tumor--I lost my one balance nerve and hearing in my one ear. After this life-changing experience, I decided it was time for my family to purchase a vacation home where we could relax, live life to the fullest, and gather as a family each year.
Nancie Balun purchased this townhome in 2003
Why Nancie Balun chose Shawnee
Northslope II is very unique community, since it is located down the street from Shawnee Mountain. While this is a town home, it doesn't really feel like it, since it is surrounded by mountains and a very private setting. The home itself is beautifully designed with so many rustic features that you would find more typically in Vermont cabin in the woods.
What makes this townhome unique
And there you have it, a Vermont-style home professionally decorated and once featured in House Magazine and only 1.5 hours away from NYC!
Plus, we always feature candy somewhere in the house and of course Big Ed, the carved bear.
Guestbook comments from the owner
The only problem we had with the vacation was the fact we did not go out as much as we wished simply because your home was so amazing. From the set up to your brilliant decorations, your home was truly the getaway vacation we were looking for. We had a very hard time leaving and cannot wait to come back. I really want to thank you for letting us stay. We do not have enough words to describe the peacefulness we felt. Thank you once again.
