Moonraker House is located approximately 107 miles north of San Francisco off historic and scenic Highway 1. The house is also one mile away from the ocean.
Our two bedroom, two bathroom home has an upstairs deck, private hot tub, WiFi, cable televisions, a fully equipped kitchen with bedroom linens and bathroom towels provided.
With 50 miles of private beach, bluff, and forest trails, picnic areas, tide pools, three recreational centers, two marine reserves, a fenced dog park, and an 18 hole championship golf course, there is something for everyone to do without leaving the local area.
Gualala, the closest town, is 8.7 miles north with grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a bank, post office, and gas stations.
Six hundred fenced sheep and goats graze the common areas to eliminate fire hazards and follow The Sea Ranch philosophy of living lightly off the land.
The artist community of Mendocino is fifty-eight miles north and Fort Bragg is nine miles north of Mendocino. Both places are perfect day trips to explore, shop and eat. Charter boats are available for fishing and whale watching in Fort Bragg.
Grey whale migrate December through March and can often be seen off the shore or by boat.
Seal pups are born late March and early April and can be viewed from the bluff trail above the reserve.
Observe pelicans, cormorants, and oyster catchers from ocean bluffs and on the beach
Redwood violets and trilliums bloom around our house in March and April. Then in May and June the Rhododendrons are in full flower.
The Sea Ranch thespians present two productions a year, one in spring, and one in fall.
My parents purchased our family vacation home in 1990 after several years of renting homes on The Sea Ranch and searching for the perfect home for us.
My father wanted a house in the forest and my mother wanted something close to the ocean. This home is the perfect blending of the two.
My father, 81, is a retired teacher and my mother, 80, worked for the State of California. They still manage the property with help from myself and my teenage son, Josh.

We are blessed to be able to share our peaceful home with you. Since our house is located in the forest, we do not have the foot or road traffic the other places do. We rarely see people or cars in the area or on the trails nearby and appreciate the serenity.
The ocean, towns and beaches are closeby to explore and there are plenty of things to do in addition to just quietly relaxing in the redwoods.
My partner and I, both architects from Chicago, studied The Sea Ranch community in architecture school. The Sea Ranch has always been a place that we have wanted to visit but never had the chance until recently. The photos on the VRBO website for this house do not do it justice. We had a fantastic stay here at this home. The ability to enjoy a week of silence among the redwoods was better than we could have imagined. City living did not prepare us for the experience of enjoying morning coffee and meditation in the silence on the roof deck among the redwoods and of seeing the stars at night from the roof deck. It was truly inspiring. The only noise we really heard were the occasional car from a neighbor driving by and the breeze through the trees. In fact, there are so many trees around the home that you could not see neighboring homes while enjoying the spa or sitting on the roof deck or from most any window in the house.
We cooked most of our own meals. The kitchen had plenty of counter space, every type of utensil, cookware, dishes and flatware that we needed. Sitting in front of the fire in the fireplace at night was a treat with plenty of firewood available. The wood paneled walls and ceiling and the wood floors reminded me of the summer cottages in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. You can see the pride and care the owners take in the home.
We felt very welcome and comfortable and enjoyed the experience! We hope to be back again in the future!!
The house was clean, quiet and very pleasantly situated right in the middle of the woods(1/2 half mile away from the beach).It felt magical.I would love to stay there again.And yes, I would highly recommend it.

We have stayed in Moonraker 2013 and 2014. Its a beautiful home in a beautiful location. It's private and quiet. The home is impeccably clean and the owners are accommodating to no end. You better reserve the home early to get it in the summer. We couldn't rent the home the last two summers because its rented out for the summer by April. Also the price is right and we always get our desposit back no problem. You can't go wrong at Moonraker
We spent our honeymoon at Moonraker House and we LOVED IT. The house is unique and beautiful, perfect for 2 people (or 4). We enjoyed the hot tub and especially appreciated the wood fireplace. The owners added some sweet personal touches that made us feel extra welcome. The house is really comfortable and homey and feels really private. The 3 stories made us feel like we had so much space, even though the actual footprint of the house is small. We just loved every minute there, and every interaction we had with the owners was pleasant and helpful. Nearby Gualala is an adorable town and there are so many fun beaches to explore within 20 minutes either way on Hwy 1. If you are looking for a private, comfortable home base from which to enjoy the Gualala/Sea Ranch area, Moonraker House is the perfect option.
