Christmas Time in Murphy. NC

We enjoyed the peaceful and quiet time. The cabin was nice. Althought there were dirty clothes in the cloth hamper and dirty socks under the bed. The oven need a good cleaning. The dryer filter had not been cleaned, as instructed. There was a tube of lipstick under the sofer cushion and some nail polish. Who ever responsible for cleaning did not do a good job. It was nice to find items in the ref. and cabinet for us to use. But there was not enough room to put the items I brought.
The recliner handle was loose and need a screw in it. The screen on the porch has torn aloose. Needs repair.
It you want a peaceful time, then this is the place. Just be careful of the drive way. You really need to back into the yard. Hard to turn the car around.
Owner's Response: So glad to hear that Ozie and Jane did enjoy our beautiful mountain town with so much to offer and enjoyed their stay at Tree house cabin. I did respond to Ozie and Jane immediately in direct email after their findings. I personally had to clean this cabin after Ozie and Jane's stay because our cleaner wasn't available over the holidays. So all these issue have been taken care of by me personally. Not sure why cleaner would miss 1 pair of pajamas in the cloth hamper in closet, but when I took them out to wash them and I realized they were already clean not dirty, but they surely didn't belong in the cloth hamper, The regular cleaner should have caught that, she should have also taken the lint out of dryer filter too no doubt, every time as we instruct everyone else too. There were three clean pairs of socks a chap-stick and a travel size shampoo bottle on the counter when I arrived to clean after Ozie and Janes. I recall Jane emailing me that their were two clean pairs in the drawers and one dirty pair under the a bed. Clean ones in drawers fine, probably owners or left by tenant, but dirty under the bed not acceptable. All these issue have been resolved by me personally. I moved all the beds and couch and cleaned under every piece of furniture in the home. I have compacted (pushed to the back) many of the owners food items in the cupboards so their is more room for tenants food in the cabinets for future tenants. All of the owners food items are for tenants use too if needed, coffee, cooking oil/spray, paper plates&plastic/foil wraps. I sat in the recliner which still did recline, but tenants are right it needs the screw tightened, fixed that. The screen that the tenants speaks of is not broken thru or loose on the whole door, the whole screen door is in tack and in place. The owner has inserted an addition wide plastic/rubber screen protector so that animals don't barge their way thru and break the fine screen on the whole door its a protective device for the screen inside the door. I can see this 2nd screen loosening frequently as tenants dogs and people might loosen it from time to time. A 5 second fix by me just pushing it back into place. I'm glad to get feedback from tenants so that we can make sure and fix issues immediately as they come up. We are in the people business and love our tenants and want them to have a comfortable stay in a clean pet friendly home. All of the above issues have been resolved by me. We encourage feedback. Thanks, Mgmt

Our stay at the Treehouse Chalet

  • 3 of 5
  • Submitted: Apr 9, 2012

We decided to stay at the Treehouse just a few days before our vacation started. The home itself is beautiful and we did have a great time exploring the area, very quick drive to Murphy.
A few things to know if you plan on staying here that we wish we would have known ahead of time. The chalet itself is in a developed residential area with houses around it, so if you're looking for complete privacy, this isn't the place. Although when you sit on the deck, you can't see the neighbors, only the wooded area behind the house.
The listing indicates firewood - the fireplace inside is gas, but there is a fire pit in the back yard and no firewood is provided. When I asked about it, we were told that we could probably find some in the nearby woods, we ended up buying some so we could enjoy a fire one evening.
There is no internet access as listed. I know, when you're on vacation, you shouldn't need the internet, but I needed it to stay in touch with work. I did go to town each day at a wonderful local coffee shop for the connection.
But I will say, that we did have a very relaxing vacation, the house was beautiful, the kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfy.
If you golf, there was a course very close by. The Campbell Folk School was also a short drive away.

Welcome to the 'Tree House' Chalet in the mountains in Murphy, NC only about 5 miles to downtown area. this is a special place in the southwestern corner of North Carolina where the forested mountains touch the sky, the lakes sparkel, the air is crisp and the clean and the charm of small town America still exists. The southern Appalachian Mountains are believed to be among the oldest on the planet. As early as 1540 the mountains and valleys now known as Cherokee County were explored by DeSoto and inhabited by the Cherokee Indians. The great Tennessee, Hiwassee, and Valley Rivers were mined for gold as evidenced by old tunnels, shafts, Spanish Coat of Arms, and the coin molds found along the river banks. In the early 1800 as the whiteman coveted the rich lands and beautiful, sift rivers of western North Carolina, President Andrew Jackson sent 7,000 troops into western North Carolina who built six forts to oversee the removal of the Cherokee to Oklahoma. The Largest was Fort Butler.

Golf: We have at least 5 Golf Courses to choose from in the area. Cherokee Golf Course is located only about 2-3 miles from the house off Harshaw Road as you are going toward downtown Murphy, NC. There is The Ridges Golf courses in Hayesville, NC and Blue Ridge, GA. There is a Copperhill, TN Golf Course approx 25 miles from the house and I know that Blairsville, GA has one located off Hwy 19/129 as you are going toward the Hospital and downtown area from Hwy 19/129. Can Google these golf courses if you need more information on directions and rates. All of our golf courses around here do not need a membership because we are a vacation area.

Ski: Maggie Valley, NC is the closest Ski Slopes. The are approximately 50 miles from this home and you can ski for the day and still come home to stay in your cabin. Sometimes you have to check the Nantahala Gorge off Hwy 74 to make sure it isn't closed due to poor, winter weather. They have been known to close it when it gets real icy or lots of snow. Check Google for more information on these Ski Resort.
