Best Beach Vacation Ever

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place for a vacation. Very cozy home with a wood burning fireplace which we used often in the cool evenings. The beach was one of a kind, with absolutely no one on it and only 100 feet from the house. My kids played for hours, climbing on the rocks, digging for clams, searching for sea glass and riding the waves. We saw all kinds of wildlife including all different kinds of birds, seals, clams, deer, lobster traps, and crabs. The town of Kennebunkport is very quaint with cute shops and great restaurants. There was a sea kayak that my husband took every day to explore Little River and tributaries. By far one of our most favorite family vacations.

What a Gem!

  • 5 of 5

What a charming beautiful house with a "woodsy feel" and so close to a private beach! What a great " off the beaten track" place to escape to. The house is at the end of a long woods road and makes you feel you've really escaped from the hectic outside worl The upstairs bedroom has huge windows that gives a wonderful feeling of sleeping outside under the stars. Very romantic! The house is very warm, comfortable and clean with a lovely wood burning stove. The towns of Kennebunk and Oqunquit are incredibly charming with so many things to do if you choose to venture out from the house We heard about this place through a friend who's family has been vacationing here for the past 5 years and has been raving about it. We finally contacted the charming owners to set up a vacation up there and can't wait to go back. I'm just sorry that the word is getting out about this gem of a house, seeing as we will be wanting to go back for years to come.!

Dissapointing - Not worth the money

  • 1 of 5

Unfortunately we came back from a VERY dissapointing vacation and an experience hopefully not to be repeated.

We found the house to have a good location as was described, but the state we found it in was unacceptable. The furniture and appliances were old, dirty and worn. Bedding did not fit the beds properly and was a mixture of styles and colors. More importantly, there were rugs covering water and mold stains on the carpets, and stains of dripping water even on the lampshades in the bedroom! We were then infested by ants. This can happen in that kind of setting and we took care of it. (put poison down, even though we had a toddler with us) However, the following night we were visited by a family of mice in the livingroom. We were sat there reading our books while our 2 year old was asleep upstairs and they just ran around under the couch.

We then decided that was NOT ACCEPTABLE, especially travelling with a toddler and being pregnant and PAYING THIS KIND OF MONEY.

We contacted the owners as we thought this was important enough to contact them directly instead of their caretaker and to explain the situation. They were going to send the caretaker over, who did not show up till the next weekend. We did not stay a day longer and left on day 3. The owners were going to refund our money, but AFTER THE WEEK WAS OVER AND WE WERE HOME, let us know THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND and ACCUSED US OF STAYING THE WHOLE WEEK!!!!

We ended up in York Harbor in a lovely house which was bright and clean and we paid for those nights ON TOP of the rent for this house.

Anybody who wants to see images of this - we are NOT making this up, as the owners also told us the caretaker found no evidence, can email me directly. I will be more than happy to elaborate on this.
