The four bedrooms and three bathrooms are on the second floor. A half bath is on the first floor. Hairdryers, towels, sheets, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and paper products are all provided. Televisions in each bedroom.

Large outdoor entertaining space with grill and seating for 12+. Unusually large pool for a home in the heart of DC. Floats and towels on site. Pool is surrounded by lush gardens full of flowers and plantings.

535 4th St SE is a ten minute walk to three metro stations. Eastern Market and Capitol South are on the orange and blue line and Navy Yard is on the green line. Ten minute walk to the Nationals' baseball stadium. Five minute walk to at least 40 restaurants on the very trendy 8th Street. Ten minute walk to the Capitol building. Visitors may walk to the Smithsonian museums from this location - about 20 minute to Air and Space museum.

Extremely safe area in the midst of the neighborhood that is home to many congressmen and government leaders. Great place to walk around and look at historic homes with their quaint gardens.

Two wonderful children's parks are within one block. Public tennis courts are one block away. Waterfront park is closeby with free evening entertainment during the summer months. A state-of-the-art gym is on the next block and temporary access can be arranged.

Owners have lived in Washington DC for over twenty years and work at NASA. They live next door to the property so are available to assist you in anyway necessary.

Diane Powell purchased this house in 2006

Capitol Hill is an absolutely wonderful place to live. We love the history of the homes nearby and learning what famous people have lived in them, walking by the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and the Capitol at night, walking to nearby first rate restaurants, and watching the Marine Corps Band and Honor Guard's Tattoo on Friday nights, Recently the city has opened a beautiful new park just down the street on the waterfront. There's a great sidewalk level fountain for the kids to play in, free outdoor/lawn movies and music on summer evenings. The entire Capitol Hill area has undergone an incredible revitalization within the past ten years and many young families with small children fill the many parks. Most of my guests really enjoy Eastern Market - because on weekends you can find great fresh foods, antiques, international craft items, art and lots of jewelry. It is superbusy - very fun place to spend time with friends.

Awesome! Exactly What Looking For....

I stayed with my sisters, cousin, and mother and everyone said what a lovely and perfect house. We ranged in age from 44 to 80. Everything that we could wish for and more was provided.

There are 18 to 20 steps to the second floor. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor. The beds were quite comfortable and I didn't hear one complaint. The stairways are plenty wide enough for one person at a time to climb them. Two could pass, but it would be tight. The steps were not a challenge for any of us.

Diane and her daughter were pleasantly attentive and available to all of my phone calls and I think there was only two of those - mostly for information.

Parking was not a problem for our two cars as once we had parked, we didn't have a need to move them. Once we got oriented, things that we wanted to see and do were located within a comfortable walk either to the attraction or to the train. Everyone said they sure would love to stay here again. And I got lots of praise for finding this rental which I have passed onto Diane.

The house does have WI-fi.

As our stay was 3/20 to 3/23/2014, the pool was not open, however, we did have drinks and snacks at the table next to the pool and soaked up the high 68 degree and sunny weather. The owners had tucked charming knickknacks in the vegetation around the pool which we delighted in. Most of the group was from snowier country and really appreciated the warm weather break.

Two of us arrived from Reagan National Airport lugging a suitcase each and took the train on the blue line all the way to the Eastern Market and walked from the stop to the house. If you are intending to replicate what we did - make sure your smart phone is set for walking directions, not driving, and you will cut many steps off of the trek. Even following driving directions it was within our abilities. I would not recommend this mode of travel with young children.

Why pay more, for a mediocre hotel room?

We needed two hotel rooms for us and our teenagers which would have cost more than this charming, well equipped, spacious house, even in an average hotel. It's close to all transportation (car/bus/subway), decent shopping & restaurants, the Mall, etc. in a nice, safe neighborhood. (Too cold when we stayed, but the pool would be nice to use in summer.) Listing is accurate but photos don't do it justice; minor quibble: TVs are small & old. Helpful, non-intrusive owner. I would stay here again and highly recommend it.

A Great Time was had by ALL!

Rented this property for a week of fun with our son's family. The pool was essential. The 4 and 2 y-o grandsons could not get enough time in the water. The area around the pool was lovely, with lots of interesting art pieces, and a big umbrella covering the dinner table. The house is larger inside than it looks from the outside. Awash with saturated color on the walls. Lots of fun artwork, much of it glass, which was initially scary since we had a 2 y-o, but he behaved and nothing broke. Yippee! The AC could have been better upstairs. The green/Audrey Hepburn BR was not cooled at all, and it was HOT during our stay, but we never complained so did not give the owner an opportunity to fix something for us. I think Diane would have worked something out. The kitchen is well-stocked, there is comfortable eating space for 8 in the DR, and it is a short walk to Eastern Market for good food options. We mentioned to Diane that the knives are not too sharp and think they will be sharper for the next guests. We drove 4 miles to Costco upon arrival and stocked up for the week, so we felt that paying for the house saved us a lot of restaurant costs. And we loved the space everyone had to relax after a morning jaunt to the Smithsonian Museum of the day. My husband and I like to walk so we did the walk to most locations while the kids drove, and parked a car easily along the Mall. MANY good restaurants and bars in the area, though we did not try any. Fantastic bakery across the street from Eastern Market on 7th Street. Tried lots of the chocolate options, like them all! We highly recommend this lovely home for a multi-generation vacation.

Great stay in DC!

We had a great time in DC. The owners were very helpful and accommodating! The house had a few minor issues, like the lack of lighting out back by the back steps. Otherwise, we had a good time and would go back again. I would recommend this property to others. The kids loved the pool!! Good location, fairly close to lots of restaurants, etc.

Comfortable Capitol HIll Retreat

Two families (5 adults, 5 kids ages 6-10) rented this historic brownstone which exceeded our expectations. The unit was very clean (we like to remove shoes in the house) and more spacious than expected for city housing (we were thinking NYC narrow brownstone). Two long, narrow staircases, so must be able to use stairs. There were 4 spacious BR. Two shared a bath while the other two had their own. Rooms were well-lit and A/C was comfortable. Showers never ran out of hot water even with all 10 of us showering consecutively. Ground level had large LR, DR and eat-in kitchen. We never felt crowded - it felt like home. Pool temperature, though not heated, was perfectly refreshing (it was in the 90s most of the week). Pool area was relaxing complete with patio table and grill. Anything we needed we could ask the owner Diane for, and she was conveniently located behind the pool. Two metro stops conveniently located about 10 minute walk away. Two great playgrounds for the kids 1-2 blocks away. Some of the best-rated restaurants on Trip Advisor also located in the neighborhood, within walking distance. Street parking was easy but you have to get a permit from the Pollice Station which is 1.5 blocks away. We had two vehicles and made two day trips to Great Falls, VA and Mount Vernon. Upon return around 3-5PM we found parking spots right away. We had a great time and would definitely return. Much better than staying in a hotel!
