LAKE SUPERIOR - SHELTER BAY COTTAGE, CHARMING LAKEFRONT RENTAL

Au Train Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms (Queen size beds), 1 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6

We invite you to come stay at your own private cottage and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Superior and Au Train Island. It's the perfect place for a family vacation, a getaway for two, or a small group.

Nestled on the shore in Shelter Bay with 175 feet of private lake frontage, relax and unwind in a peaceful, quiet setting. Sit on the front porch with your favorite book, watch the birds as they come to the feeders and listen to the sound of the waves. If the weather isn't to your liking, grab your book and head to the screened/glassed-in gazebo by the lake. This picturesque bay with its view of moored boats, sunrises over Au Train Island and occasional eagles, provide a perfect backdrop for a true vacation.

You're sure to enjoy the vibrant fall colors provided by Mother Nature, as the cottage sits on the edge of the Hiawatha National Forest.

Further Details: This clean, tastefully decorated cottage comes with a fully-equipped kitchen and everything needed to make your stay as comfortable as being at home. The open kitchen, dining, and living area have breathtaking views of Lake Superior. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and a small balcony for you to enjoy. The other bedroom has a queen-size bed and a set of large bunk beds.

Linens are provided but you do need to bring your own bath towels and washcloths. Smoking is NOT permitted inside the cottage and pets are sometimes allowed if approved in advance, although there is an additional fee. Unfortunately the cottage is not handicapped accessible.

Directly in front of the cottage you can launch your kayak, swim to and dive off of Seagull Rock or just relax. Deer Lake, a 1/2 mile away, is a beautiful inland lake with excellent swimming and picnic facilities.

Au Train, six miles east, features one of the most pristine white sand beaches on the south shore of Lake Superior and is a favorite swimming and canoeing spot. Nearby you can find area waterfalls, Grand Island Recreation Area Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Seney Wildlife Refuge, US Forest Service Songbird Trail, and the Hiawatha National Forest.

After a days enjoyment, head to the fire pit before returning to the cottage for a restful nights sleep to the sound of the waves.

Shelter Bay Cottage is a perfect vacation spot!

About the Owner: Since we both love to travel, we know what guests want in an accommodation, cleanliness, coziness and comfort! You'll be sure to get all that and more at Shelter Bay Cottage!

We are third generation owner of the property and since we are both from Alger County, it made perfect sense to retire here along the shore of Lake Superior. We enjoyed many years here when our children were growing up, but now it's times to let others enjoy it as well. We can assist you in deciding what you want to do with your time, as we know the area very well.

Situated half way between Marquette and Munising, it's a perfect location for enjoying all that Alger and Marquette Counties have to offer. And since we live directly across the street from the cottage, we're available to make sure you have a pleasant stay.

WE'VE NEVER BEEN SO RELAXED

We've never been so relaxed
  • 5 of 5
This was our first time to the Upper Peninsula and this set the bar pretty high. This cottage is the perfect place from which to explore and we hiked, biked, fished, kayaked......and were so relaxed. Lovely setting and Nancy and Jack are simply the most wonderful hosts. We have rented through sites like this several times and this has been the best experience yet!

THE MOST RELAXING VACATION WE EVER HAD

  • 5 of 5
This cottage is just fantastic. It is perfectly located to hike, bike, kayak, fish, run.....whatever you want to do and we tried to do a little of everything. Still, we kept commenting to ourselves that we had never been so relaxed. It is the perfect getaway and Nancy and Jack are simply fabulous hosts. We have rented through sites like this on several occasions and this is our best experience yet.

A WONDERFUL PLACE TO DE-STRESS!!!

  • 5 of 5
A very well stocked and comfortable cottage with views of Lake Superior to take your breath away. This was our first stay and this location was perfect jumping point for visiting Marquette, Munising, Grand Marias, Tahquamenon Falls and Seney Wildlife Refuge...We packed in a lot of beach combing, waterfall hunting and nature watching in a week!! The cottage was so nice to come back to rest and recoup for the next days adventure!! The owners are very sweet, accommodating and try to plan for every need.....We would highly recommend this lovely location....

TRULY A SPECIAL PLACE ON SUPERIOR

  • 5 of 5
We've been returning to Shelter Bay Cottage for years now. Superior never fails to amaze us! We love the spectacular sunrises, stars and the sound of those waves lulling us to sleep! It's the perfect place in the best location between Munising and Marquette. We also enjoy Deer Lake across the road. Whether you desire some peaceful solitude, or a family vaca, you'll enjoy your stay in this squeaky clean cottage with such friendly owners.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
We do truly feel like this is our home for a week whenever we come back to Shelter Bay Cottage. We found it ten years ago and decided to give it a try. This was our third stay and every year we enjoy it more and more. Not only my husband and I but especially kids (13 & 5). They are the reason we keep coming back here. The property is very, very clean and has everything you might need . We found so much to do here over the years. We make a lot of trips to near waterfalls (there are so many to see), we kayak, we hike, we bike, we swim or just relax by the cottage, read books, have a bonfire and roast marshmallows. The kids like to hang out on the rock beach in front of the cottage and look for a beautiful colorful rocks or build a port for the toy boat or just jump on the rocks. They do love it here because they connect with the nature and it's so much fun. We love waking up to a beautiful sunrise and falling asleep listening to the waves of Lake Superior. We enjoy visiting Munising and Falling Rock Café, local bookstore/ café, where we became regulars. On our last trip we found Rock River Café in Chatham, wonderful small place, where we ate the best white fish sandwich in our life. The people here are so nice, especially the owners Jack and Nancy, who gave us so many wonderful tips on what to do around here. What else to say - we are booked for the next year and we can not wait to come back.

HAPPY RENTER

  • 5 of 5
Wow, what a wonderful cottage for the fall season in the UP. The cottage is nestled in the pines right on beautiful lake Superior. Great views and millions of stars at night. The location is perfect between Munsing and Marquette for lots of things to do. Don't miss the Pictured Rocks boat excursion. The cottage is cozy and comfortable, very clean, and with a well stocked kitchen. Comfortable beds! The hosts, Nancy and Jack, are right there to help or advise with any needs. We couldn't have been happier with our time st Shelter bay
