Several years ago we were faced with what to do with this historic house. It is one of the last of its kind on the coast and most have been converted to McMansions or, long-ago, fell down. Any serious upgrade would have lost the charm of a simpler life and we chose to keep it, as much as possible, in its original form. It was once a summer inn with several wharves on the shore and steamer service to Bar Harbor. We have upgraded all the bathrooms and bedding and made it easier to keep clean, but it is still an old time Maine Summer Camp.
Our wonderful land is located on the east end of Berry's Cove with great views of Frenchman’s Bay and Mt. Desert Island along with direct access to the shore across the front lawn. With a southwest exposure, you’ll love the bright sunny days and gorgeous sunsets. You’ll be surrounded by lots of wonderful wildlife, including eagles, loons, herons, and many other sea and shore birds.
There are so many tourist attractions in the area it would be impossible to name them all. Enjoy all the amenities of nearby Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor with just a 25 minute drive (approximately 3 miles away by water). Northeast and Southwest Harbor and Blue Hill are all close by.. The main commercial area is Ellsworth (15 minutes drive) with everything you could ever need. There are numerous music festivals throughout the summer, excellent restaurants, and even a cinema for rainy days. Fun attractions include several scenic flight and whale watch companies, professional kayak tours, logging shows, miniature golf, and much more. There is a beautiful and clean swimming pond within easy walking distance over the woods path and of course you can brave the Atlantic on the shore. Lamoine Beach is a couple miles down the road as is the Lamoine State Park.
There is an outside Fire Pit available at owner's discretion. Use will be curtailed during dry weather.

Our family has owned this property since 1958. Although we have lived in many different places all over the globe, we have always called this place home. Our family speaks English, French, German, Russian, and Latvian.
Frederick & Aija Cahn purchased this cottage in 1958
This is a unique place to stay as it was originally built as a summer house. This is not someone's home that has been vacated for the summer - it was actually built to accommodate 'Rusticaters' from Bar Harbor who came over on regularly scheduled boat service. There used to be several docks in front. Although extensively renovated and improved, you can still live the life that existed back in a more leisurely and relaxed time.
A large and beautiful lawn with full grown trees down to the beach where you can enjoy a southwest exposure - that means afternoon sun and evening sun which is important on the sometimes cool Maine coast. An historical setting. And, your hosts are close by and ready to help with any issues that might arise.
Dream shore cottage was a great place to stay for our first trip to Maine! The beds were so comfy! Location is outside the hustle and bustle of bar harbor but only about a 20 minute drive. Close to many lobster pounds, antique store, logging show and Acadia national park. Thank you Freddy and Aija for your hospitality!
My husband, myself and our 4 children (11, 10, 6, & 4) stayed for a week. The house was a quant throwback to a simpler time, a short drive to everything and far away enough to be very quite and peaceful. Clean and well cared for, a true cottage. We cooked dinner at home most nights the kitchen was stocked well enough for my husband (a chef). Our kids were up, dressed and down at the shore before we were out of bed everyday. Our only regret was not saying longer!!!
This is a spacious, spotless gem of a seaside cottage. My family just spent an awesome week here. It's got all the amenities and is just close enough (and just far enough) to & from the beaten path. The owners were very pleasant and entirely accommodating, and if this review seems at all subdued, it's only because we hope to stay there again and we don't want someone else to book our week before we do! Again, this is a GREAT place to base a summer vacation; you will not be disappointed.
Our family had a wonderful week in Maine, and we absolutely loved our stay at this cottage. It was plenty large enough for all six of us, even through the one rainy day we experienced. It was spotlessly clean, and the owners were very friendly and entirely accommodating. Everything about the place, including its secluded location and proximity to Acadia, was to our liking. We intend to return, and to stay in this cottage again.
Dreamshore is a lovely cabin with a long lawn down to the ocean. Go clamming when the tide is out or put in a kayak when the tide is in. Staying in the cabin is like taking a trip back in time. Filled with generations of Cahn family antiques and artwork. It is well stocked with everything that you will need, Plenty of blankets, laundry and kitchen supplies. While the counters are from the 50's and the the ceilings are open to the rafters the place was spotless. We were very impressed about that. Mt Desert Isl. is about a 20 minute drive and food markets and farm stands are close by. So much to do and one week was just not long enough. I would highly recommend a stay at Dreamshore Cottage outside of busy Bar Harbor.
This is a great place to stay. It has comfortable beds and is very clean. The location was quiet and beautiful. It is off the beaten path of the busy tourist areas but close enough that you can drive to them. The hosts were friendly and easy to work with. We would definitely stay again.
DreamShore Cottage is on the east end of Berry's Cove with a view of Mt. Desert Island. With a southwest exposure, there are bright sunny days with gorgeous sunsets. The Cottage has direct access to the shore across the front lawn. The shore is rocky and shale until the low water mark. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are about 25 minutes away by car and approximately 3 miles away by water. There are numerous music festivals nearby throughout the summer. Shopping is available in Ellsworth, about 15 minutes away, and there is the Lamoine General Store in town with a good lunch counter. Lamoine State Park is just down the road and Lamoine Beach is just past the Park with a great beach. Blunt's Pond is a 15 minute walk away through the woods for swimming with clear, clean water. This is a fantastic place for a summer vacation with your family.
