About The Owner

Original loft dwellers in NYC, my wife and I were initially lured to Maine by its natural beauty, lakes and coastal access. After several years of vacationing in Maine's lake region and mid coast, we discovered Portland--a city whose sophistication with food and the arts, defies its size. After renting for one year, we found our ideal home--a converted 1880's carriage house located in the center of the Arts District, where we currently reside with our two Samoyeds. Portland's nationally reknowned restaurants--(my wife is a foodie), vibrant music, theater and arts scene--(I enjoy that) and ease of access to the woods and beaches--(my dogs require that) make it the ideal living place for us.

A week or two in Portland can be the perfect get away vacation for you, and may result in you too seeking permanent residency in Maine, as my wife Stephanie and I have.

The Owner purchased this house in 2002

Fantastic Home in the Heart of Portland

  • 5 of 5
This home was a perfect for us. Initially we chose this property because of the beautiful roof top deck and the grille. We had wonderful breakfasts on the deck as well as some nice evening dinners and cocktails, enjoying the night sky. We stayed the week of Labor Day, which turned out to be extremely warm, and it was perfect in the mornings and evenings. The beautiful plants and flowers make it a great place to relax.

The lay-out is nice, as it has 2 totally separate areas for sleeping; one bedroom, the larger of the two, is on the lower level, and the second bedroom is on the 3rd floor; both have their own bathrooms and a washer and dryer located on the lower level bedroom area. One of the most pleasant surprises to us is the incredible kitchen. Not only was it well stocked with almost anything you could need, it was a spacious area for a number of us to prepare a meal, or casually graze.

Within a 10 minute walk of most of the restaurants and tourist areas in Portland, we seldom drove, and we enjoyed walking to our destinations, and felt very safe in the neighborhood. Some of the things we like doing are: taking the ferry to Peaks Island and renting bikes; going to restaurants like Fore Street and Back Bay Grille; hanging out at the Portland Lobster Company; and for sightseeing the Portland Discovery Land & See Lighthouse Tour is great. The home is very clean and comfortable, and the homeowners were extremely helpful. The listing description and pictures are very accurate. We would definitely recommend renting this property, and will hopefully return again.

Perfect Home for a Portland Vacation

  • 5 of 5
This property was just perfect for us! The house is large and the bedrooms on separate floors and each with a bathroom allows for great privacy. The kitchen has everything you can imagine!! And the rooftop deck is superb!! We chose not to have a car and were able to walk the entire city from this location - which was wise given the amazing restaurants in Portland. Richard is wonderful to work with and his attention to detail is so helpful.

Very Nice Portland Rental

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week here with another couple and LOVED our entire stay. This house has the perfect layout for privacy (whether it be friends or relatives -- people on different schedules can easily have their own space without infringing on the other). The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need should you decide to cook a meal in (although there are so many good restaurants to explore while in the Portland area this may not be an option while you're in town). We steamed lobster (that we had caught that same day on "The Lucky Catch" lobster boat tour and purchased for $5 each after), made sweet corn and red potatoes and this was by far our best lobster dinner while in town. We enjoyed lunch at The Lobster Shack at Two Lights -- beautiful views while enjoying lobster at a picnic table adjacent to the ocean and had an excellent dinner at the Saltwater Grille. We had a great time strolling the streets of Portland, taking in the scenery, and trying the area's finest food and beverages. We met many of the neighbors and all were very friendly and willing to answer tourist questions. I enjoyed an afternoon of reading on the deck which was very relaxing!

The description and photos are very accurate and Richard is kind and helpful (and promptly returned our security deposit)! This was our first experience renting and look forward to doing it again in the future. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.

Outstanding Portland Rental

  • 5 of 5
We loved this rental! Everything about it is first class. Very unique and very well cared for by the conscientious owners. Perfect location (we enjoyed the great coffee and pastry shop only a stone's throw away!). Within walking distance to great dining and the Portland Art Museum. An added plus is that the neighbors of this rental are friendly and helpful too and provided us with many local recommendations. We had a great experience here.

Wow, what a great place!

  • 5 of 5
We love Portland and go up from Boston several weekends a year. So when we decided to do something more relaxed for this summer's vacation, the destination was an easy choice…the accommodations were not. I'm so glad we found this house because it helped make our vacation really amazing. The house is lovely, the kitchen is a cook's dream and the deck is simply magical. Richard's tips for both the house and Portland were super helpful and very accurate. The location was perfect for our needs, close to the Old Port (about a 15 minute walk to Novare Res) and super close to Downtown. I second Richard's recommendation on Zapoteca - we ate there the first night and the food was amazing.

I would absolutely recommend this property and we'll be coming back next year!
