Jim & Sherry came to Charleston 11 years ago to finish business careers and begin retirement. We found a beautiful house, made friends and experienced a 'low-country' life beyond all expectations. Every day has an event in Charleston and all within walking distance.
Now that retirement is in full force, we plan to spend time traveling and visiting friends and relatives around the world, but Charleston will always remain our home
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
We fell in love with the Garden District of downtown. While close to everything, it is still a 'neighborhood.' When you walk to a restaurant or concert, friends and strangers smile and speak.
Dear Jim and Michael,
Just wanted to let you both know that we had a WONDERFUL time on Elizabeth Street. It is a gorgeous house, Jim, and we felt very fortunate to be able to use it for a week. Our events at Spoleto were enjoyable and stimulating (we saw El Nino and Testament of Mary, for example) and best of all, we walked many miles every day, ate great food, and enjoyed the peace and quiet of your home.
I hope we'll be able to come again,
My wife and I met while attending Charleston Southern University (Baptist College of Charleston in those days) in the late '70's. Charleston has held a special place in our hearts ever since. So when we had the opportunity to stay in the city during the month of August, we jumped at the chance. We wanted to find a place that exuded the warmth and the charm of the city. Jim and Sherry's lovely home was everything we were hoping for and so much more.
The home itself is beautiful and comfortable. The pictures and the description on the Home Away site does not do justice to this quaint house and its great location. Elizabeth Street has a southern charm to it that added to the enjoyment of our stay. Almost every day we would enjoy an evening stroll - and because of the location of this house, we were able to enjoy different walks almost every time we went out. We could walk along the harbor shore or through the garden district neighborhoods or enjoy the bustle of King Street or Meeting Street or the French Market. Everything from shopping to eating to sightseeing was a short walk from the front door.
We also cannot say enough about Michael - the property manager. What a kind soul and pleasant person. Michael was always at the ready for any questions or needs we had. He took time to chat, was open in sharing his own story and he always shared a smile or a laugh. We felt he was an old friend from the moment we met him.
We would highly recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for great location to enjoy the Holy City. Trust me, you won't want to leave. We will definitely be back. Thank you Jim and Sherry for making our stay a great memory. This was truly a Charleston experience.
A wonderful, beautiful home..close to everything! We couldn't have been more pleased. It was everything as advertised - plus more. The setting, the beauty of all the plants and greenery, the accommodations and amenities were outstanding. Michael was very helpful in getting us familiar with the home and answered all our questions. We would recommend this property if you wanted to be in the "heart" of Charleston. Also, the food and service was exceptional. A couple of our favorites was the Broken Egg for breakfast, The Noisy Oyster, T-Bonz Gill and Grill, A.W. Shucks, just to name a few. If you are into history, would recommend visiting Fort Sumter, Patriots Point, Home of the USS Yorktown, the destroyer Laffey, and WWII submarine Clamagore. Plus visit the Maritime Museum, Aquarium, Rainbow Row, City Market, take a carriage ride, tours of plantations, and if you get the chance go see "Angel Oak". We had a wonderful time. Thank you for letting us share your home for the week so that we could explore and enjoy the beautiful Charleston area.
The fact that this review is belated is no reflection on our stay in this beautiful home! The location could not be more perfect, the home lacks no amenities, owner Jim was wonderful to work with, and property manager Michael was very attentive. My husband and I traveled from Seattle to rendezvous with some great friends from SC, and the Elizabeth Street home was ideal. Though we all knew Charleston as visitors, staying in this central location for a week made us feel like residents. The home is spacious and the kitchen was perfect for gathering while cooking. All four of us would definitely recommend Jim and Sherry's lovely home to others -- unless it's the same week we want to reserve it!
This is a gorgeous home in a great location. Everything about our trip was perfect.
This is a fantastic location to see all the Charleston hot spots. The property is beautiful and absolutely perfect! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this location to all our family and friends. The walk to King, Meeting and Market Streets was easy, no need for a rental car with this property. We enjoyed all we wanted to see and do in Charleston by walking from this home.
Highlights of the week were dining at Hall's Chophouse and Cru Cafe. High Cotton, Social and Closed for Business were great spots for Happy Hour. We can't wait to return next year!
We would like to thank our host for allowing us to stay at their wonderful home. Everything was in excellent condition, clean, and a joy for us to share. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to make a trip to Charleston.
