Overview

Madison Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Here’s your chance to experience the cozy comfort of an airy, cottage-like apartment, with the convenience of a downtown location.

This quiet, sunny second-floor apartment allows you the peace and quiet you deserve. Imagine the respite you’ll feel when you sink into a dreamy bed with a top-of-the-line pillow top mattress. You’ll cherish the feeling of high-thread count 100% cotton sheets on you skin. And you’ll wash away your cares in a luxurious clawfoot tub with shower.

Appointed with care by the home’s owner – a former proprietor/chef of a heralded Door County inn – this apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of a washer/drier in the basement, in-unit tv and free wireless. Start the day with French press coffee on your three season porch.

Venturing out, you’ll find a host of activities within walking distance. Nearby Tenney Park offers boat launches, fishing, pontoon rides and ice skating in the winter. And you’ll find many different award-winning restaurants and coffee shops. The world-famous Barrymore Theater offers national acts and the University of Wisconsin and Madison Area Technical College campuses are each 3 miles away. The area is served by a number of bus lines and taxis are easily accessible.

Take a look at the photos and you’ll see why there’s no reason a short-term stay in Madison can’t be a memorable one.

Why Leah chose Madison

The location has the dual advantage of being close to everything this fantastic city has to offer and yet is on a very quiet street and neighborhood.

What makes this apartment unique

I love that the apartment is in such an old house and neighborhood. However, there are some quirks to the building.

A few considerations :

This is a second floor walk-up apartment in a 2 flat.

The ceilings are slightly lower than average which means that the shower height could be a little cramped for very tall people as one steps up into the claw foot tub.

Otherwise you will find that the apartment is exactly as pictured (except there is a newer TV than the one in the photo).

Misleading

  • 2 of 5

I really wish the prior reviews gave a detailed account of their experience. I knew to expect a crazy amount of stairs, low ceilings, and strange bathtub but I still had a lot of unexpected surprises. When we pulled up, we were unsure if we had the right address because we thought it would be an apartment complex. We found a house and saw people in the back. No one spoke to us but I noticed that they did see us. As we neared the door, I greeted them and asked if we were in the correct location. Leah then said yes and introduced herself following with, "there's food in the freezer, leave it be." Not very welcoming and we felt awkward that this "apartment" was actually an attic in someone's house. Aside from that, the rental area was very cute. Although nitpicking, I would have been thankful knowing this prior. The bed is very soft, to the point of little support. The shower was shorter than myself at 5'5". The coffee that is provided is from 2003 along with the cream that was sitting in the pantry not in the fridge. The tv allotted ten stations, which we didn't really use. The last awkward situation was when Leah texted me asking me to check on the wifi. I thought it was very strange for a rentor, who apparently lives there, to request this. I replied we could when we returned and she wrote back in short hand, "whenevs thx." It rubbed me the wrong way with the informality. The other misleading information was that it is not a downtown apartment. To me it was similar to claiming a Chicago suburb being downtown. It is; however, very very close to downtown, perhaps 10 minutes. I was disappointed with our stay and wished Leah would have either been in a better mood or possibly a better host. I felt uncomfortable and intrusive. Our vacation was amazing though. Downtown Madison had wonderful restaurants and sites to visit. I hope this gives more insight to the next visitors.

A convenient inexpensive clean place to stay right in Madison

  • 4 of 5

Months in advance, this was the only property in our price range that had convenient access to campus using public transit. My son and I were visiting UW Madison, and we wanted an inexpensive pad from which yo explore the campus for a few days. This was much cheaper than the hotels on campus, and we had a kitchen (with two ovens no less!) to boot. Sure the place was a bit quirky, with floors of different heights throughout. But what do you expect for a 100 year old house. We thought it was great, and Leah was super helpful and responsive, even offering to extend our stay if necessary when a snowstorm hit home.

Cozy, Comfortable, Clean!

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend staying at Leah's place. It was very comfortable and cozy, and Leah was an excellent host---she even made me gluten-free brownies (thank-you!) upon finding out that I am gluten-free when we were discussing restaurants in town. Her restaurant recommendations paved the way for some amazing meals while in town! I cooked a little bit in the large kitchen, and had cozy nights in the amazing bed---super soft and comfy! The steps up to the apartment are a a bit short/narrow, so be careful if that would be a problem for you hauling luggage. The room was chilly, but Leah provided a heater, and that kept me as warm as I wanted to be. Great location as I easily walked to Willy Street for restaurants, shops, and the amazing Willy Street Co-op--not to mention, only about 10 minutes from the airport by car! This is an old house and has wood floors and all the fabulous funkiness of an older home, so if you're looking for something modern, this is not for you---it was perfect for me as I love older homes. My only disappointment was that I was looking forward to a bath in the claw foot tub, but I don't think we are supposed to bathe in it as there was no plug--it was just for showering.

Perfect for our needs

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I were traveling with our 4 month old and we could not have had a better experience. This was the first time we used VRBO. The apartment was part of an old home, but it fit our needs well. We had access to a stove to boil water for our baby, and we had access to laundry, which is a huge plus with a baby! We are quite tall, so the shower was a little difficult to use, and the water was not always hot. The location was perfect for us-we had a wedding to attend, but the zoo and university were easy to access too!

Cute apartment in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this cute and cozy apartment, and will definitely book again the next time we are in Madison. The apartment was decorated in a casual cottage style, which gave it wonderful character. The owner is very responsive and helpful. And the apartment is located in a quiet and friendly residential neighborhood, within walking distance to a few restaurants and pubs.

Love Madison

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay at Leah's apartment in less than a year. Our first stay was for 10 nights, so we definately got to know the place. If you're looking for a chain hotel experience, as an earlier reviewer apparently was, this is not the place. If you're looking for a cool, unique place to stay in Madison, this is it. Yes, the apartment is quirky, but in a good way. Leah's place is well-located on Madison's Eastside, near all the restaurants and pubs in the Atwood area. The Eastside is, in my opinion, the best area of Madison. The neighborhood is ecletic and urban, but yet safe and quiet. You can walk to many things nearby, and are not too far from everything downtown, near the Square. Visit the nearby Olbrich Botanical Garden, Ale Asylum and One Barrel Brewing, as well as the Green Owl and Monty's Blue Plate restaurants. With a little updating, this place would rate 5 stars, but it's close. So much better than staying in a hotel!
