DOWNTOWN MADISON APARTMENT-QUIET COTTAGE VIBE; WALK TO RESTAURANTS/BARS/CAFE'S

Madison Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Here’s your chance to experience the cozy comfort of an airy, cottage-like apartment, with the convenience of a downtown location.

This quiet, sunny second-floor apartment allows you the peace and quiet you deserve. Imagine the respite you’ll feel when you sink into a dreamy bed with a top-of-the-line pillow top mattress. You’ll cherish the feeling of high-thread count 100% cotton sheets on you skin. And you’ll wash away your cares in a luxurious clawfoot tub with shower.

Appointed with care by the home’s owner – a former proprietor/chef of a heralded Door County inn – this apartment includes a fully equipped kitchen. You’ll also enjoy the convenience of a washer/drier in the basement, in-unit tv and free wireless. Start the day with French press coffee on your three season porch.

Venturing out, you’ll find a host of activities within walking distance. Nearby Tenney Park offers boat launches, fishing, pontoon rides and ice skating in the winter. And you’ll find many different award-winning restaurants and coffee shops. The world-famous Barrymore Theater offers national acts and the University of Wisconsin and Madison Area Technical College campuses are each 3 miles away. The area is served by a number of bus lines and taxis are easily accessible.

Take a look at the photos and you’ll see why there’s no reason a short-term stay in Madison can’t be a memorable one.

The location has the dual advantage of being close to everything this fantastic city has to offer and yet is on a very quiet street and neighborhood.

I love that the apartment is in such an old house and neighborhood. However, there are some quirks to the building.

A few considerations :

This is a second floor walk-up apartment in a 2 flat.

The ceilings are slightly lower than average which means that the shower height could be a little cramped for very tall people as one steps up into the claw foot tub.

Otherwise you will find that the apartment is exactly as pictured (except there is a newer TV than the one in the photo).

LOVE MADISON

  • 4 of 5
This was our second stay at Leah's apartment in less than a year. Our first stay was for 10 nights, so we definately got to know the place. If you're looking for a chain hotel experience, as an earlier reviewer apparently was, this is not the place. If you're looking for a cool, unique place to stay in Madison, this is it. Yes, the apartment is quirky, but in a good way. Leah's place is well-located on Madison's Eastside, near all the restaurants and pubs in the Atwood area. The Eastside is, in my opinion, the best area of Madison. The neighborhood is ecletic and urban, but yet safe and quiet. You can walk to many things nearby, and are not too far from everything downtown, near the Square. Visit the nearby Olbrich Botanical Garden, Ale Asylum and One Barrel Brewing, as well as the Green Owl and Monty's Blue Plate restaurants. With a little updating, this place would rate 5 stars, but it's close. So much better than staying in a hotel!

COZY AND VERY CLEAN

  • 5 of 5
Really loved my stay here, and would love to come back sometime. The apartment was super comfortable and felt very private, and it was great to grab a bath or two in the awesome tub. There are a few cool little restaurants and stores within walking distance, and Leah even provides a listing of some good ones. Had a blast!

QUAINT LITTLE PLACE IN MADISON!

  • 4 of 5
My boyfriend and I chose to stay in this adorable little apartment in a prime location to EVERYTHING you could ever need in Madison and had a truly wonderful time. It allowed us to take in the non-touristy side of Madison and really enjoy some delightful restaurants and neighborhoods.
The owner was incredibly helpful with tips on what to do and where to go. Left us a bike map and everything. I would highly recommend this location.

Although, if you are quite tall or slightly claustrophobic this might not be a good choice for you - nothing to do with anything other than the lower ceilings and some uneven floors (since it's an older house). Other than that, we had a great time!

TOO "CHARMING" FOR OUR TASTES

Too "charming" for our tastes
  • 1 of 5
We booked for 5 nights but could only mange one. Access from the ground up to the unit is pretty difficult, especially if you have any baggage to speak of; extremely steep and very low ceilings make the going a unique experience. Once inside, the floors are sort of uneven, the doorways cockeyed, the light sockets in strange places (hint, don't move in at night!). We arrived in late August for University move in; it was very hot. The apartment was air conditioned, but there is no thermostat. You must contact the owner to adjust the temperature. But the final deal breaker was the shower; takes minutes to get hot and almost no water flow. The tub is totally surrounded by heavy plastic sheets which we had to lift and crawl under.

My daughter had such a bad vibe, she couldn't sleep there. We found an excellent and even cheaper Holiday Inn, closer to campus, free breakfast, and user controllable AC! (and an excellent shower). Unfortunately this owner has a no refund policy, but we were so uncomfortable, I had to eat the cost.

My advice; unless you're looking for a very different and funky vacation experience, avoid this place.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry the apartment wasn't to your liking. It is however, exactly as pictured and described.

I assume the August heat you refer to was outside, not in the apartment. It is true that there is no thermostat in the apartment but I am always happy to adjust the temperature for guests- a quick text, email or phone call is all it takes as is indicated in the welcome letter.

As for the shower, this is the first that I heard about the low pressure and have now had the shower head replaced. Thank you for letting me know so that I could address this. And that obviously also takes care of the time for the hot water to reach the unit as it must be flowing through more rapidly. The heavy plastic sheets you refer to are standard shower curtains that surround the claw foot tub. There are two vertical openings for entry.

COZY RESPITE

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Leah's apt. It was clean, quiet and conveniently located. Leah was very accommodating to our several day's late arrival due to illness. Madison was so hot during our stay but the apt. was cool and comfortable. I loved the list of recommended restaurants in the area; they will not disappoint. A cozy, comfortable place to reconnect to the Madison scene and/or visit nearby family. We did both! Thanks, Leah.
