Another rewarding stay at this beautifully situated property

The Pine Cottage is ideal for an active couple who enjoy biking, hiking and skiing, but is also a great place just to be quiet and read a book while listening to and watching nature. We have stayed at the Cottage in warm weather and in mid-winter, and found it ideal for our needs in both cases. The pictures in the posting reflect the pleasant interior and the beautiful natural setting of the property, but cannot communicate how one feels when one hears the rushing river, sees a doe with young fawns, or observes kingfishers defending their territories. In winter the snow-covered property is a wonderful retreat from city life. The cottage is simple, but well-furnished for living and cooking - we once made a Thanksgiving turkey in the oven - and has always been spotlessly clean. The bed is super comfy, and the woodstove just what one desires after a day on the ski trails. Sitting around in the provided robe and slippers at such a time feels decadent. Many windows provide views of the tall pines, the river and the animals and birds. In the summer one can eat one's meals or have a glass of wine at the river's edge. The town of Winthrop is an easy 3/4 mile walk or a few minutes drive to eateries, a super market, fuel, and some pretty good art galleries. The Old Schoolhouse Brewery has a good pub menu, excellent locally brewed beers, and in warm weather a great beer garden on the banks of the Chewuch River. Purchase trail passes and rent skis and bikes in Winthrop. The Pine Cottage owners have provided detailed information on services in Winthrop, hikes in the area, farmers markets, restaurant menus, etc. and are readily available to answer questions via phone or email.
