Welcome to our cozy, isolated cottage nestled amongst the lettuce fields of the Salinas Valley. Our cottage is located on our property 4.5 miles down River Road, just at the start of the Monterey County Wine Trail. On our half acre we have several outbuildings, our home and the owners cabinet shop. Weekends are quiet and peaceful when the shop is not operating, but during the week the cabinet shop starts up at 7 am with the noise being barely audible inside the cottage. The cottage has an open floor plan, with the 'bedroom,' living room, and kitchen connected to one another and the open sleeping loft. The cottage is located just off River Road, with a view of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range and endless produce fields. We are located 20 miles from Monterey and Pebble Beach, 7 miles to Salinas, 15 miles to Laguna Seca Raceway, and 45 miles from Santa Cruz. The agricultural setting of our property provides a unique experience of seeing where the lettuce, broccoli, or strawberries that you buy at home originated. There is little traffic, only the occasional tractor or the rare crop dusting helicopter, which only add to the experience. Enjoy the views and unbeatable hospitality during your stay, making this an ideal setting for a private and fun getaway weekend.

We are Paul & Rori Jensen and have been married for 28 years. When we purchased this property in 2004, our dream was realized and we were able to locate our custom cabinet shop, Jensen Co. Specialty Woodwork, right on our property. When looking at the Google Map, the marker is in the wrong place...continue down the road , to the right, to the next house with the shop and all the out-buildings. In addition to having the shop right here, we also really enjoy entertaining and often have family and friends out to enjoy our beautiful slice of heaven. We and our two sons, two dogs, five cats and six chickens have been working really hard for the last seven years to make our place into something really special. We invite you to come and share a bit of what we have done! Creative use of space, reclaimed materials and custom woodwork have all been used to make this cottage into something truly magical. Come and see!! We look forward to meeting you.

We live in a beautiful area and are close to many famous landmarks, Carmel by the sea, Laguna Seca Raceway, Big Sur, Monterey, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the River Road Wine Trail. By converting a detached two car garage into a charming cottage, we can increase our income in these troubling times, and give you the opportunity to share in our joy!
As we have mentioned already, our cottage is unique, our use of space and materials have created a wonderful and relaxing place for your weekend getaway. Many of our guests have indicated that they just don't want to leave! But, our proximity to so many truly unique locations make day trips to the Monterey Peninsula, the Big Sur coast and the wide open vistas of the Salinas Valley easily obtainable. You can relax each night in the quiet of the lettuce fields in front of a roaring fire, or enjoy the patio and the spectacular view of the Santa Lucia mountain range (really just big hills, but very beautiful anyway.)
Me and my two young children (5 and 8 years old) just had the best vacation on the central coast, and Rori and Paul's cottage was perfect for us. It was centrally located between the sites we wanted to visit: Pinnacles National Park, Point Lobos, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Very convenient for getting to the coast and a lovely place to come home to in the evenings. Rori and Paul are very hospitable, and my kids really enjoyed playing outside on the trampoline, in the fort, and with the two very friendly dogs. I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.
Between the owners and the cottage itself, you feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment you arrive. The cottage is filled with dozens of expertly handmade and selected items -- quilts, paintings, furniture, and decorations. The owners greet you, answer any questions you may have, and give a tour, if you wish, of the property. (They also stock the refrigerator with unexpected treats.) After being there a short time, you probably will decide, as we did, that the cottage 'lives' larger than it appears in the photos. We are two couples, age 60+, who found the surrounding area scenic and with more than enough activities (Steinbeck museum, parks, Monterey, wineries, zoo, etc.) to keep us busy for three days. We all highly enjoyed our stay and recommend this cottage.
The BEST..... period.
I was on an extended work trip and wanted a quiet place to relax and do some PC work away from the jobsite.
A wonderful re-treat, a place to rejuvenate the mind and spirit during in an otherwise hectic trip.
I love to hike and there are lots of nearby opportunities. Pinnacles, Big Sur, or my personal favorite Ventana Wilderness in the Los Padres National Forest.
If you are looking for a quite oasis to return to after a busy day of vacationing, adventuring or working (as in my case) this is the place for you :)
If you want to be in the middle of "what's happening now" this isn't the place for you. If you want a charming, comfortable, quiet cottage in the middle of the verdant fields of Salinas with a view of the rolling hills, built with love, attention to detail, and expertise, and stocked with everything you could want, then this is the place for you. This is our third (fourth?) visit, and I hope we can always stay here when we come to visit our family in Salinas. We are grandparents, with a grandchild nearby, but not with us. I think children would love the loft, and with the books and games in the cottage, plus TV and DVDs, and the attractions outside the cottage, they would have plenty to entertain them. It's a lovely retreat and a peaceful refuge after a day of being a grandparent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is adorable and stocked with all the basics kitchen necessities as well as books, movies and games to entertain guests. Our 3 children ages 6, 8,and 10 absolutely loved the fort as well as the in ground trampoline. The kiddos enjoyed having their little loft in the cottage to hang out in as well. Plenty of room in the loft to comfortably sleep 3 children. Location was great just 15-20 min. away from our family and the beach in Marina. We enjoyed not staying in a hotel with 3 children and having the yard for the kids to play in. In fact they wanted to pass on the beach so that they could get back to the cottage sooner to play! Paul and Rori were fantastic. Very warm and inviting even bringing us homemade chocolate chip cookies when we arrived, which by the way were amazing. They also invited us out to the fire to roast marshmallows and make smores, which of course we could not refuse. No doubt this will be our spot when we travel back to visit family. Thanks Rori and Paul for your hostility.
Our family had an amazing stay at this charming cottage. The love and attention to detail that went into making this more than just a "place to stay" but a "peaceful refuge" is evident in every detail of this cozy home-away-from home. The cleanliness was impressive in itself! You can't have a better view than the rolling hills and picturesque vegetable fields surrounding you. The location is ideal for a trip to the coast, being just a short drive to Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz, and many other destinations. For the same cost of a hotel, we enjoyed complete freedom, our children had the time of their lives climbing in the fort, jumping on the trampoline, and most of all playing the your super friendly dogs. My husband and I almost felt like we had a vacation alone, because even when we were in the cottage reading or relaxing watching TV, the kids rarely came down from their "loft refuge". The one thing that almost kept us from staying here was the location of the cottage being right in the middle of the property, we were afraid it would be awkward and uncomfortable to have the owners that close....turns out we couldn't have been more wrong! Not only is there plenty of privacy, but Paul and Rori were the best thing about our stay. We looked forward to every chance to take a tour of the property and hear their stories. They are truly blessed with the gift of nurturing and hospitality!
Farm tours, wine tasting on the Highlands Wine Trail, we have 2 passes available for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Laguna Seca Raceway is about 10 miles away.
