UNIQUE COTTAGE CLOSE TO MONTEREY PENINSULA & LOCAL WINERIES.

Salinas Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Welcome to our cozy, isolated cottage nestled amongst the lettuce fields of the Salinas Valley. Our cottage is located on our property 4.5 miles down River Road, just at the start of the Monterey County Wine Trail. On our half acre we have several outbuildings, our home and the owners cabinet shop. Weekends are quiet and peaceful when the shop is not operating, but during the week the cabinet shop starts up at 7 am with the noise being barely audible inside the cottage. The cottage has an open floor plan, with the 'bedroom,' living room, and kitchen connected to one another and the open sleeping loft. The cottage is located just off River Road, with a view of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range and endless produce fields. We are located 20 miles from Monterey and Pebble Beach, 7 miles to Salinas, 15 miles to Laguna Seca Raceway, and 45 miles from Santa Cruz. The agricultural setting of our property provides a unique experience of seeing where the lettuce, broccoli, or strawberries that you buy at home originated. There is little traffic, only the occasional tractor or the rare crop dusting helicopter, which only add to the experience. Enjoy the views and unbeatable hospitality during your stay, making this an ideal setting for a private and fun getaway weekend.

We are Paul & Rori Jensen and have been married for 28 years. When we purchased this property in 2004, our dream was realized and we were able to locate our custom cabinet shop, Jensen Co. Specialty Woodwork, right on our property. When looking at the Google Map, the marker is in the wrong place...continue down the road , to the right, to the next house with the shop and all the out-buildings. In addition to having the shop right here, we also really enjoy entertaining and often have family and friends out to enjoy our beautiful slice of heaven. We and our two sons, two dogs, five cats and six chickens have been working really hard for the last seven years to make our place into something really special. We invite you to come and share a bit of what we have done! Creative use of space, reclaimed materials and custom woodwork have all been used to make this cottage into something truly magical. Come and see!! We look forward to meeting you.

Rori Jensen purchased this cottage in 2004

We live in a beautiful area and are close to many famous landmarks, Carmel by the sea, Laguna Seca Raceway, Big Sur, Monterey, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the River Road Wine Trail. By converting a detached two car garage into a charming cottage, we can increase our income in these troubling times, and give you the opportunity to share in our joy!

As we have mentioned already, our cottage is unique, our use of space and materials have created a wonderful and relaxing place for your weekend getaway. Many of our guests have indicated that they just don't want to leave! But, our proximity to so many truly unique locations make day trips to the Monterey Peninsula, the Big Sur coast and the wide open vistas of the Salinas Valley easily obtainable. You can relax each night in the quiet of the lettuce fields in front of a roaring fire, or enjoy the patio and the spectacular view of the Santa Lucia mountain range (really just big hills, but very beautiful anyway.)

Perfect Family Getaway Cottage

  • 5 of 5
Our family had an amazing stay at this charming cottage. The love and attention to detail that went into making this more than just a "place to stay" but a "peaceful refuge" is evident in every detail of this cozy home-away-from home. The cleanliness was impressive in itself! You can't have a better view than the rolling hills and picturesque vegetable fields surrounding you. The location is ideal for a trip to the coast, being just a short drive to Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz, and many other destinations. For the same cost of a hotel, we enjoyed complete freedom, our children had the time of their lives climbing in the fort, jumping on the trampoline, and most of all playing the your super friendly dogs. My husband and I almost felt like we had a vacation alone, because even when we were in the cottage reading or relaxing watching TV, the kids rarely came down from their "loft refuge". The one thing that almost kept us from staying here was the location of the cottage being right in the middle of the property, we were afraid it would be awkward and uncomfortable to have the owners that close....turns out we couldn't have been more wrong! Not only is there plenty of privacy, but Paul and Rori were the best thing about our stay. We looked forward to every chance to take a tour of the property and hear their stories. They are truly blessed with the gift of nurturing and hospitality!

Lovely gem in the lettuce patch!

  • 5 of 5
Our second visit to Rory and Paul's little slice of Heaven. We enjoyed the serenity of this little cottage each evening following full days of wine tasting, hiking at Pinnacles National Park and sightseeing in Monterey and Carmel. Thank you for another perfect get-a-way!

Charming Country Cottage Retreat

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I were so excited to stay here to celebrate our one year anniversary, and at the end of the week we didn't want to leave. Paul and Rori were extremely hospitable and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. As an interior designer, my wife was smitten with all the charming details of the cottage's design - full of vintage decor and reclaimed wood. During our stay we drove all over the California coast and were so thankful to have such a relaxing environment to return to every evening. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well every night. Paul's impressive wood shop was nearby, but we were never bothered by any noise, even on his busiest days making cabinets. We will DEFINITELY be coming back, maybe for longer next time!

Owner's Response: You and your wife were so much fun to have stay with us and Paul and I throughly enjoyed meeting you both. Thanks for choosing our place to celebrate your anniversary! Did you make it to the Alameda Point Antique Fair on the first Sunday of the month? We tried to lead you astray with more shopping! Hope to see you again soon.

Beyond our expectations!

  • 5 of 5
The cottage was a wonderful experience for our family of three. It was very nicely decorated, comfortable, homey and clean. We stayed two nights, but wished we had planned for longer. Paul and Rori have the gift of hospitality. They are the best host and hostess that we have experienced. They made us feel like old friends. If you love the country, you will love this place. It is surrounded by vegetable farms. The interior decor and landscaping was very impressive.

Great accommodations and hospitality!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of three, including our five year old daughter, were so happy with this great find! Paul and Rori were so welcoming and gracious with their suggestions on what to do and where to eat in the local area. Our daughter loved the little "tree house", trampoline, chickens, ladder to go upstairs to her very own loft, but especially the doggies, Maggie and Bree. The accommodations including the linens, beds, towels, kitchen gadgets, games, books, etc. were all great quality. The farm/cottage is about 20-30 minutes from Monterey but the distance didn't really faze us. In fact it was nice to be close to Salinas for their small farmers market on Saturday (and be sure to check out Halltree Antique Mall too along Main Street) and Santa Cruz for the Beach Boardwalk.

Thank you Paul & Rori! We hope to be back again next summer.

Another excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5
Yet again, my family and I had a wonderful stay at this cottage. We were welcomed with a fresh bowl of strawberries and delicious fresh-baked cookies for us when we arrived. The girls enjoyed the loft as well as the trampoline, dogs, and chickens! We enjoyed being able to cook full meals in the full kitchen and kick back to watch movies or listen to music on the Bose sound system. We didn't want to leave. Will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: It was so good to see you and your family again. I am so glad your mom discovered our little paradise and having you stay with us helps make your family visits a little easier...you are not all under each other feet in a smaller home. Thanks for the garden tips and the discussion our gardens while standing in the middle of mine. Hopefully, by the time you return, I will have fresh organic eggs to leave for you also. Until next time...Blessings!

Notes:
Bathroom carries the theme of the rest of The Cottage. Custom walk in shower pan is made from an old claw foot bath tub with the side cut out. Shower surround is constructed from reclaimed redwood which creates in the shower the feeling that you are showering in an old carriage! Truly unique. The vanity is constructed from bead board that was original to our house and was torn out when we remodeled. The floor is acid washed concrete. Lots of natural light from the skylight and window. There is an elliptical trainer, in my quilting studio, which is available for your use 24/7
