Overview

Trastevere area Condo Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 3

The apartment has a large bedroom (U.S. double-size bed, 140cm) and PLENTY of closet space, a spacious, eat-in kitchen, and a living room that looks out on the piazza. The bathroom, though narrow, is quite modern and pretty; it has a shower, not a tub. There are ceiling fans in all three rooms and in the summer there is air conditioning as well. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT ME BEFORE CHECKING FOR AVAILABILITY EITHER ON THE HOMEAWAY CALENDAR (SEE BELOW)OR MY SITE:

Roughly 60 square meters or 700 square feet, the three-room apartment is on the second floor, European-style, which means there are two flights of stairs. There is no elevator. It has lovely, wood, beamed ceilings in all three rooms and is very cozy and warmly furnished. It differs from most of the others on the market because of its real, lived-in charcter and, in fact, I lived here for over 20 years before moving down the block seven years ago.

Along with its attractive furnishings, new, firm mattress, and extremely well-appointed kitchen, there are several hundred books in English, a broad selection of guidebooks and maps, and a new TV with Sky Italia satellite that gives you access to dozens of Italian and foreign channels. There is also a VCR (with a small collection of films) and a CD-cassette player with radio. There is no washing machine, but there is a coin-operated laundromat a few blocks away. Unlike most apartments, in this one, a LAPTOP with XP and a DSL connection is available at NO CHARGE for getting on the internet, reading your web mail and surfing. a week for unlimited access. There is wireless if you are bringing your own device. On arrival, you will find juice, bottled water, and a bottle of wine waiting for you. Generally, basic household supplies are included e as well as food basics such as olive oil, coffee, salt and sugar.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE APARTMENT IS MEANT FOR ONE PERSON OR FOR TWO PEOPLE WHO SHARE A BED. In some circumstances, the living room couch can be used by an additional person for sleeping, but there is an extra charge for this. MINIMUM RENTAL PERIOD IN APRIL,MAY, JUNE, SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER IS ONE WEEK, UNLESS THERE IS A SHORTER GAP BETWEEN TWO LONGER RENTALS.IN OTHER PERIODS IT IS FIVE NIGHTS.

The bedroom is extremely quiet. The entire apartment is quiet during the day and the piazza below is delightful.

In the evenings the living room side is less quiet because the café downstairs is highly popular. In some periods, depending on the vigilance or lack thereof of the Rome city police, street musicians and peddlers also make an appearance. And generally, except in the coldest part of the winter, there are lots of people walking about and enjoying the scene since, as you probably know, Trastevere is a sort of Roman Greenwich Village or Marais and is consequently quite lively.

During the day the cafe is a nice place for a light lunch and, of course, Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere is great for coffee in the morning, and for people watching, one of Italy's oldest and favorite spectator sports.

At Home in Rome

  • 5 of 5

In Dec. 2014 the University administration, where I work, arranged for me to travel to Rome and insure the safe return of our study abroad students. The assignment was sweetened by the opportunity to have my wife accompany me. The university made all the arrangements for our travel and accommodations. I was given a choice of apartments from among four options. I immediately delegated that choice to my wife. I am happy to report that she chose wisely.

We had the pleasure of spending ten fabulous days in a beautiful second floor apartment in Trastevere. Trastevere is the 13th rione of Rome, on the west bank of the Tiber, south of Vatican City. Its name comes from the Latin Trans Tiberim, meaning literally "beyond the Tiber". I doubt that there is a more charming medieval neighborhood on the planet. I would encourage all visitors to Italy to experience Trastevere.

Our experience was significantly enriched by our beautiful second floor apartment. We had a spacious bedroom with ample closet space and large dresser, with plenty of drawers. The bathroom was small but quite adequate. The kitchen was complete with all appliances, coffee maker and tea pot. The living room, with TV, could seat 10 people. Perhaps, most important, the apartment was equipped with wifi. Personally, this was a huge benefit for me, as I received over 100 scholarship essays, from potential students, that needed to be read and evaluated prior to my return. This became my late night and early morning activity.

Our landlady was a most accommodating and welcoming host. She made certain that the apartment was perfect in every way. Meeting and getting to know her was the “icing on the cake” and helped to make the experience special in every way. We will miss our precious apartment and incredible experience. But, the fond memories will last a life time.

Arrivederci ROMA!

Fabulous Authentic Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely, cozy and well-equipped apartment in a great neighborhood. It's within walking distance to all the major sites in Rome, yet in a more residential neighborhood with many wonderful shops, restaurants, and markets. It sits on a lovely small piazza where you can watch life go by from a small cafe downstairs (and which also happens to be the perfect place to get that morning cappuccino). The owner, Sari, is an absolute delight, and a font of knowledge having written the National Geographic guide to Rome. In addition, the apartment is replete with all sorts of books and information to help you discover the Rome you want to see. I recommend this apartment very highly, especially if you are a single traveller or a couple and want a place to stay in Rome that is only a small distance off the beaten track of the more touristy areas, but feels like a world away, as it is located in an alive and vibrant Roman residential neighborhood.

Trastevere Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment exceeded our expectations in every category. The location, the comfort, the spaciousness, the ambience! The owner has created a very special retreat, right on an exciting piazza but so comfortable you hardly want to leave. When you do venture forth, you will easily walk to great restaurants, interesting sights, good local shops & transportation if needed. The owner was easy to deal with, prompt in all transactions & most informative. She arranged for the excellent driver

Roberto to meet us at the airport & let us into the apartment. We definitely want to stay at this Trastevere Treasure again!

We lived like a local!

  • 5 of 5

There is always a degree of anxiety renting a place to stay that is not 'normal' accommodation such as a hotel. After an exchange of emails with the owner we decided to rent the apartment so we could experience an authentic Rome lifestyle for a few days. Sari (the owner) recommended her preferred limo driver pick us up from the airport and that was the first of many pleasant surprises. We were driven to the apartment by a driver that not only knew exactly where to go but also helped us with our baggage and as we found out later was cheaper than a taxi! We were met by the person who services the apartment and shown where everything is (ask to see the wall safe...it would be impossible to find it without knowing exactly where it is). The apartment has a very welcoming feel and is very comfortable. The piazza where the apartment is located is surrounded by many eateries. The local supermarket is a short walk away and public transport even closer. I totally recommend this wonderful apartment to people wishing to experience a different tourist adventure. As an authentic apartment it is on the 3rd floor with no lift but we enjoyed the exercise of the stairs. Thank you for letting us stay there.

A perfect base for exploring Rome February 2014

  • 5 of 5

This charming, comfortable one bedroom in Trastevere is perfect for a couple's base in Rome. My husband and I loved the beamed ceilings, the flower boxes, the new, up to date kitchen and bathroom, the quiet bedroom (all the more wonderful as the living room fronts on lively Piazza Sant' Egidio, which is alive with people till late at night). Every wonder of the historic center of Rome was a short walk or bus ride away. We loved stocking our kitchen from the local outdoor market, the local awesome cheese shop, and the local awesome bakeries and wine shops. The kitchen is new, and well equipped for meals at home. And when we ate out, great restaurants were a very short walk away--and a cozy café for morning coffee is right outside the front door. On our one rainy day, we braved the downpours in the morning but loved being able to relax in our own place in the afternoon. So much nicer than a cramped hotel room.

The owner is American and available, accessible, and knowledgeable. She recommended the excellent Roberto to pick us up from and deliver us to the airport. This was our first foray into apartment rental and she could not have made is easier. Highly recommended.
