Photos and Description of the Georgetown vacation house boat rental
1 Queen private cabin, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5

Charles Andrew joins Tessie Ann as part of a fleet of non-powered houseboats moored in Riggs Cove by Riggs Cove Rentals LLC at Robinhood Marine Center, a full service marina in Georgetown, Maine. Charles Andrew has accommodations for five and is accessed by way of the included 16' skiff with 6 hp motor which can also be used to explore the coves and islands within the cruising area. Leisure, peace, romance and, best of all, no boating experience required! Three night minimum stay required. We're taking reservations for the 2013 floating season.

A Romantic Getaway: The full bulwarks (high sides) of our houseboat Charles Andrew provide protection from the wind, but better yet, virtual seclusion while lounging on deck. Levolors on all the windows provide privacy at night, and shade during the day.

Cook on board with the three burner propane stove and oven, or go ashore to the Osprey Restaurant and Tavern on the Robinhood Marine Center site.

Our Beautiful Setting: While you're swinging on a mooring in Riggs Cove in Georgetown, Maine, Ospreys nest nearby and dive for fish, Seals bob by, Lobster boats work their traps, and Sailors and Yachtsmen arrive and depart to and from ports unknown. A glass of wine, a good book, your best friend(s), 360 degrees of water views.

Cool nights? Two marine Fireplaces. Too much sun and salt? Walk in shower with on demand hot water. A little more than life at sea.

Gunk holing, Adventure and Remembering: Exploring with the skiff or the 2 kayaks on board along the miles of shoreline in the cruising area. There's history here, sea people, traders, fishermen, boat builders. And, during the peak season, bands on Friday evenings, lectures on Wednesdays, and the freshest produce and baked goods from the Market Boat on Wednesday mornings. Want to come? Three night minimum stay required. The Charles Andrew, Tessie Ann (Home Away 295122)

Peace and relaxation

5 of 5

If what you seek is peace and down time this is the vacation for you. If you want for that fresh ocean smell, then look no more. Every night you slip into dusk to the cries of the hunting osprey.

Everyday a lobster boat or two enters the cove a few hours after sunrise and go about their tasks. You can even buy your lobster directly from them. From the cove's bottom into your pot!

Everything you need is on the boat from cooking pans/pots/utensils, glassware, dishes, linen and towels, AM/FM radio with Ipod connection, WX weather radio, and a DVD player for the movies you bring. The “put-put”, your small motorized skiff, connects you to the shore. Food shopping is only 10 miles away in Bath, so there is no need to byo like we did.

Down the road 10 minutes away is the 5 Island lobster shack with fabulous sea food and fresh cooked lobsters. You can buy them to go then take them back to the boat all cooked and ready to eat.

If it is the beach you crave, Reid state park is just down the road from 5 Island.

We did a lot of nothing: sunning on the deck in the zero gravity chairs, midday naps, lobster boat watching, watching the seals and the osprey and even the leaping 3 foot sturgeons. We took the “put-put” out to explore the cove, you might like to use the two on board kayaks to go exploring. If you can handle a sailboat, there is one at the docks for your use.

We stayed a week. We plan to return and perhaps stay longer. We went there stressed, we returned relaxed. What more could you want from a vacation?
Owner's Response: Thanks, Gerry.

I worried that our concept of being self-contained and without additional water and power could be a problem for a week's rental. We were prepared to bring her in for a recharge/refill if necessary. But you were very conservative...there was ample battery and water still available after your seven days. Well done.

And we're in the process of addressing the swim ladder issue. Thanks for pointing that out. But you forgot the beer!

Next year?

Warren

Wake up with 360 degree views of the water. Explore the cove in the kayaks. BBQ on the water with a glass of wine. Play out in the cove on the skiff. Take the skiff in for dinner or to listen to a live band on Friday night. Buy lobster straight from the lobstermen and cook them onboard! Enjoy the beautiful sunsets from your houseboat. Listen to the fish hop out of water; see the seals swim by. Hop over to Booth Bay Harbor for a whale watch, or dinner, or shopping, etc. Kick back in the sun and relax, read, or do whatever your heart desires! This is a fabulously unique experience... the water, the sun, the salt air, the intermittent ocean breezes... all in such a beautiful location... it's real food for the soul.

Andy and Warren were sweet and helpful, always a kind face possibly revealing the inevitable outcome of being part of such a wonderful environment and special situation. Oh, and add the deckhands and the restaurant staff to the list of warm and friendly. All of it together adds up to one very memorable and uniquely enjoyable vacation.

Thanks for everything!

What a great way to finish our stay in Maine

5 of 5
Submitted: September 15, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
We had such a fabulous stay! My husband and I wanted to experience the Maine coast to celebrate – and recuperate from – my completion of a 2200 mile Appalachian Trail thru-hike. The Charles Andrew was exactly what the doctor ordered. Very luxurious, with every detail in place. It had everything you could want, including a media system, kayaks, it's own motor boat, fully equipped kitchen...

We paddled around for hours, which a very nice change of pace for my tired legs. We ate like kings and even enjoyed a fresh lobster dinner on the deck. Weather was perfect the whole trip (late August), and on our last day we got to see a seal frolicking around behind the boat. All in all, just a perfect conclusion to my trek. I wish we could stay longer, but no worries – I’m already planning a trip back!

A great way to enjoy being on the water

We were overjoyed with our stay on the Charles Andrew. All I can say is that it met our expectations above and beyond what we were led to believe. The employees of RobinHood Marina bend over backwards to make sure you are prepared to board and manage your boat from the time they load your luggage on board and comlete your orientation such that you can handle all the boat's many amenities. The craft was immaculate. It is loaded with all you need to enjoy the time of your life. All you need is your food. Everything else is provided on board. The dinghy and engine are in fine condition and very capable of taking you safely anywhere you want to go. The harbor is typical Maine beautiful and fairly calm. This is a must for anybody that has had prior boating experience and knows what it is like to swing on the hook for a few realxing days. Between the very professional way we were treated by Warren and his staff and the steadfastness of Andy in making us happy we can't wait to go back aboard. I rate this a Five Star marine lodging. You will never want to stay in a stuffy waterside hotel again.
The location is kind of remote, so the shore facilities outside the marina and its restaurant, which is a pretty good, is limited. You have to go up to Bath for lots of dining choices. Closeby is Five Islands with a place called The Lobster House, which we found to be very very poor in its food quality and can not recommend.
The only minus I can think of is the lack of WiFi capability on the boat. They have great WiFi service and a place to work near the gas dock, but in my opinion the relaxing ambiance would be better if I could have done some work on the boat without having to carry my computer to the dock each time I wanted to log on. A minor point though. We loved our stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Larry.

I'll work on the wifi issue this winter and either try to beam a directional signal out there, or get a receiver of some sort that will amplify the signal from on board. We do get pretty good 3G cell coverage though if you must communicate with the outside.

It was great to have you here. You were the perfect first guests for Charles Andrew's shakedown.

Cheers,

Warren
