VERY Disappointing

First, the good. It is a peaceful location waterfront location. That's it.
Now the BAD. NOT, a lake front location (as advertised) as the property is on bit of backwater that you CANNOT get to the lake via the water. So, it is on the water, but not on the lake. When we arrived, the advertised paddle boat was inoperable, and since that item has been removed from their ad. The canoe came with two paddles, one of which the blade was split and most likely would strand you up the creek in a proverbial way (if not for the fact there is no were really to paddle). The full equipped kitchen includes a NON working dish washer. Apparently, non working dishwashers are standard in a fully equipped kitchen. Boy were we surprised to find out how outdated our kitchen really is - our dishwasher works! The living room includes the one reclining chair, which is broken and I would advise not using as I'm sure its dangerous. The screened in porch also included busted chairs. The stream that is alleged to have bordered the porch was non existent during our stay. It must be a seasonal thing. Bring your own towels as those that were provided were ratty, and I would only use them for washing the car. The second dock was not out in the water, but tied to the bank in such a way as it was useless. During the middle of every other week, the recycling must be taken up to the main road by YOU, so if you enjoy taking out other people's trash, and paying someone for that privilege, this is the place for you. The little sandy beach is actually smaller that it appears in the picture as much of the sand has washed into the water. Oh, and speaking of water, the shower and sink in the downstairs bath were leaking GREAT amounts of hot water. If that's the kind of thing you enjoy, there again, you'll love this place. All in all, if I had known before what I know now, I would not have rented this place at any price. Look around, there are many great places in Northville and surrounding area. This is not one of them.
Owner's Response: We would like to begin our response to this review by saying it is from a renter who caused damage to our property and is very unhappy and bitter that we have had to keep a portion of their security deposit to make a repair because of a slider they broke. I have been getting email after email asking for their deposit back after explaining the reason that it cannot be returned in full. They do not deny they caused the damage, yet they continue to badger us. One of the group has written to us saying that had they gotten their deposit back they would not have sent in this review. This review is loaded with inaccuracies and is very unfair to us. It is a shame that it is allowed to be published , but HomeAway does not discriminate and publishes all reviews.
Our property is on the Northville (Hunter) Lake, and is a beautiful lake in it’s own right. It is a lovely, peaceful lake where no large motors are allowed. Kayaking canoeing, swimming, great fishing and more, are all enjoyed here. It is not for those who wish to jet ski, motorboat, etc. We are proud of our property and take care to maintain it and all the things provided for our guests, including each and every one of the things the renter mentions here. These numerous complaints this renter has made are not factual .
On the rare occasion something has gone wrong with a plumbing issue, we have had a plumber there asap.
There is a brand new dock on the property this year, built by a fine local co. who specializes in docks. The older dock this renter mentions was pulled onto another spot on the shore. It has been promised to someone and therefore is still there - not in anyone’s way whatsoever.
The stream the renter mentions is spring fed and has provided much enjoyment for everyone. It sometimes runs fast, sometimes slower, but is always there. The drought in many areas this summer would be the reason for this stream to not be flowing consistently.
This renter has decided to use our site to try to make us look bad in every way possible. We hope future guests will take into consideration the reviews others have written here. We hope our pictures and good reputation to date will speak louder than these words from one disgruntled renter.
