Our property is located on quiet Back River Road. Only one home is visible from the kitchen sink. This apartment is above a 3 car garage connected by a large deck to the owner's home. The lot features large, hardwood trees, birds and some small wild animals. Enjoy the serenity!
Area Description: Four miles away are the beautiful, tourist attractions that only Boothbay Harbor can offer. See the 'locals' working their lobster boats and notice all the larger cabin cruisers docked in the harbor too. Go on a whale watch, an island lobster bake, shop in the unique stores, sample some homemade ice cream, candies and flavored popcorn. Plan a visit, to the beautiful Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The Gardens feature magnificent displays and a beautiful waterfront location, many state of the art gardens, a gift shop and so much more. You may also enjoy the Boothbay Region Land Trust. It offers 15 properties for your hiking and outdoor enjoyment.. The region also features the Boothbay Railway Village, Dept. of Marine Resources Aquarium, several parks, beaches, a YMCA, and freshwater swimming. Don't forget to enjoy our fresh local seafood and hospitality while you are here
Outlying areas: Maine boasts not only coastline, but mountains, rivers, lakes and a desert, yes a desert. When you arrive here you will see there are endless opportunities for outdoor and indoor entertainment. If you are here to relax and enjoy the quiet way of life, that is available as well. You have to see it to believe it!
We are seniors renting our retirement home. James and I handle the reservations and road maps --(if required) and my daughter Becky and husband Kevin handle everything else. Homeaway does our listing and help us in handling things needed.
Sharon Poff purchased this apartment in 2010
Having this home available for our retirement gives us a peaceful feeling.
The home is located on a dead-end ocean inlet. The ocean is a short distance away. A 7 or 8 minute walk.
Downtown Boothbay Harbor is less than 5miles away.
An Irving station and the big grocery store is located less than 3 miles.
Traffic is minimal. There are no young children but within 2miles there is a beautiful town playground.
Occasional owl hoots disturbs the night's peace. Ha!
We had a wonderful trip to Maine. Our timing was perfect for the area. The crowds had thinned and the weather was perfect. We were able to do everything on our list of plans without dealing with any crowds. This VRBO was a nice place to return to after our days of fun. It was so cute and comfy, and quiet. We actually decided it was a good decision to be a short distance out of Boothbay so we could enjoy the woods and the peaceful mornings and evenings. Loved the screened in porch looking out at the trees. It was like being in a tree house. I would not hesitate to rent this place again.
Very beautiful and cozy cottage in a splendid and quite setting, we appreciated the owners' prompt response to our inquiries and attention to details. There are splendid attractions nearby (in particular the botanical gardens were a pleasant surprise, definitely worth a dedicated long visit, there are also beautiful hiking opportunities nearby). We stayed there as a stop on our way to Acadia Park, but enjoyed it so much that would definitely recommend staying there for a few days and exploring the beautiful surroundings and we will be very happy to return.
House was great, everything seems brand new! Screened in part of the deck was perfect for morning reading and after dinner Uno games. Location is ideal, just a quick drive into Boothbay Harbor, grocery store, etc are even closer.
Wish we could've stayed longer, thanks!
We, love this apt.
Everything is well kept and decorated lovely.
The location, is nice and quiet, yet only a 10 min. drive , to the harbor.
We, made good use of the large screened in porch.
It was unusually hot, for Maine.
There was a portable, rolling air conditioner in the master bedroom, but could not cool the whole apt.
Plus, the air conditioner was very noisy, but better than not having one.
I, do recommend, that a room size air conditioner be put in the small bedroom, and could blow out and off the living room wall, to cool the rest of the apt.
There probably wouldn't be many times that it would be used, but nice to have if needed.
Thanks, again for letting us stay, in your apt.
This sunny, airy place was an absolute gem! Immaculate, comfortable, quiet, and a short drive into town. The "Poff Mahal" worked well for us (myself, husband, and two kids - ages 2.5 and 9 months). We brought along our pack and play for the baby, and our older son slept comfortably in the twin bed.
Our flight was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, and Sharon was not only very responsive to our frantic and last minute correspondences but was also able to accomodate our travel changes. I love that the entire family is involved - Sharon managed the reservation, her husband James gave us great directions and tips, and Becky and her husband made sure we were happy and comfortable during our stay. Becky even left us some veggies from the garden with a nice note. What hospitality, and what a truly wonderful bunch of people!!!!!
The enclosed porch was a highlight. We cooked our meals or brought lobster in from town and enjoyed relaxing dinners on the porch.
P.S. If you have kids, there's a fantastic playground just a mile or so away.
We vacationed here in July, and could not have found a nicer place to stay. The apartment was just beautiful & had everything needed to be comfortable. Upon arrival, we found the best chocolate chip cookies ever that the owner had left for us..what a nice surprise for hungry travelers!
The view from every room is outstanding. The rooms are so nicely decorated and well kept. We felt at home from the moment we arrived, and the owners went out of their way to help us navigate around town. We arrived early am (2:00) & accomodiations were made for that as well.
From the beginning to the end, we couldn't have been happier with our home away from home! We would highly recommend this wonderful vacation spot, and hope to return ourselves.
The Boothbay Region has been a destination for travelers for over a century. The unique character of our rocky seacoast makes it a pleasure to enjoy from both land and sea. The Boothbay Region is found at the end of a long peninsula in the Midcoast area of Maine. It is a picturesque area with rich maritime heritage. The region boasts several festivals which celebrate this heritage. The architecture of the region reflects the charm of a New England fishing village with white, clapboard homes, specialty shops, galleries, boat yards and marinas.
