Pete and Maggie Jung have been canoeing and vacationing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness since they were in college in 1972. At first it was just the two of us, then our two sons, and now daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren. When we first purchased the property in 1998, Maggie took care of Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat in the summers. During the year she taught high school in science in Illinois until 2010 when she retired. Pete continues to work for Morgan Stanley doing investments for his clients. In 2010, they built thier dream log home on the property and continue to enjoy sharing Wildloon and Mallard with their guests.
We first visited Loon's Echo wilderness retreat in 1998 when both of our boys were in college. It was an empty nest fall trip (in response to an ad in the Chicago Tribune), that has turned into an adventure of a lifetime. We found this piece of wilderness that reminded us of the Boundary Waters Wilderness. It is like having a cabin on your capsite in the wilderness. Since Maggie retired in 2010, the Jungs built 'Sunset Ridge' where they stay while they rent out Wildloon and Mallard to others. Come enjoy the quiet of the wilderness from the comfort of our log cabin.
This cabin was originally part of a resort on Moose Lake north of Ely. It was moved to this beutiful pine forest overlooking the Vermilion River in 1993. The cabin was rebuilt then remodeled in 1999 to include the full kitchen and bath. We love this small cabin...it is a great place to sit on the screen-in back porch and read, watch the hummingbirds, or work a puzzle. Fish, Canoe, or hike. This is a true wilderness experience with all the comforts of home.
