Photos and Description of the Ostuni vacation villa rental
Villa, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Voted in 3rd in 'Top 10 Unusual Worldwide Holiday Homes' by HomeAway Holiday-Rentals

Trullo Bellissimo is a luxury, bijou villa with a bespoke interior design, sympathetically restored to reveal original stone walls, arches and vaulted ceilings. This ancient c300 year old building is set in its own tranquil 3acre olive grove, with stunning terraces (cocktail & dining, BBQ, exterior kitchen), gardens (formal, herb, orchard) and private swimming pool, all with views.

The villa has two double bedrooms (one with a 4-poster bed) each with its own en-suite and will comfortably accommodate 4 adults (two daybeds offer additional flexibility, if required for children). Fully fitted kitchen, WIFI, Sat T.V., home cinema, IPOD dock and more.

'Beauty, tranquility, attention to detail are spoken of by previous clients'.

Only 5- 20 minutes from 5 ancient hill towns (History, architecture, restaurants), beaches (18km) and airport (45km).

Interior: The bespoke interior design of Bellissimo, has been created by the owner and includes hand crocheted and beaded curtains, antique silk pictures, Gujerati wall hangings, Iranian rough hewn marble tiles, volcanic hand baked tiles from Etna and French Damask.

Living Area-Accessed from the principal glass doors which open wide onto the front terrace, the central living area offers a fully-fitted kitchen and includes espresso coffee maker, microwave, steamer and much more. The living room is open plan to the kitchen and has a wood pellet stove in the original fireplace. A library of DVD movies and selection of our own Bellissimo music CD’s are available. If you prefer your own music, then just plug your IPOD/MP3 into the stereo docking station. The dining area (seating 6) is just to the rear of the main living area and leads into the Ethnic Room.

Ethnic Room-Stolen from the old stone walls, this room has a wrought iron daybed, and is dressed in sumptuous oriental fabrics and wall hangings. The perfect place to pick up a book and do just about nothing.

Trullo Bedroom-With two smaller cone alcoves and a large central cone, we have continued with the ethnic feel. A low wrought iron double bed and daybed are complemented by oriental fabrics, an Arab coffee table and big cushions to nestle on, under the gentle breeze of a large ceiling fan. The bedroom leads direct into the shower/wet room clad in rose marble, a walk in shower with attachments, toilet, heated shower rail and beautiful sink carved from granite, sitting on a pedestal of marble. The trullo has its own door to the front patio, but is also reached from the ethnic room

Lamia bedroom:The newest part of the house, this bedroom boasts a huge four poster bed, complete with drapes, glazed Italian floor tiles and a ceiling fan. A small vestibule with large wardrobe leads into the second bathroom with stunning blue and green glass mosaic tiles lining the walls, a walk in shower, hand crafted washbasin, bidet, toilet and heated towel rail.

Exterior: External stonework has been totally reworked by hand. Bellissimo is a stunning confection of dairy cream washed walls, and sumptuous Moroccan style blue ironwork to the windows and doors. The Dining Terrace has a 3metre marble table, gas and wood BBQ’s, outside sink and fridge to keep your wine, beers and limoncello cool, on those warm endless summer evenings. The Cocktail Terrace is perfect for an aperitif whilst watching the sun go down in a blaze of glory over one of the nearby hill towns. . All the terraces are laid in the most stunning terracotta and umber sandstone, and the 10x5 metres swimming pool, in wonderful blue iridescent mosaic has stone steps leading into the shallow end. The gardens, pool and terraces are embraced by lighting on all levels for your evening dining and cocktails. There is a formal garden with a grassed area, safe for the younger members of the family and even a selection of toys to keep them amused. For the adventurous chefs, there is a herb garden and selection of tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, strawberries, pomegranates and quince, to complement your gastronomic efforts with a choice of wood or gas BBQ'S.

The Local Area:

Trullo Bellissimo is perfectly located to explore the 5 local historic hill towns of Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Ceglie, all within 5 to 20 minutes drive.

Ostuni 8km, is one of the most stunning cities in southern Italy famous for the dazzling effect of its whitewashed houses. It is a genuine and charming example of Mediterranean architecture. The city is a series of levels, staircases, small roads, alleys and arches. Hints of the Middle Ages are at hand in every corner, in every view to the sea, in the portal of a palace, in the walls of a convent or the front of a church. The view of the sea from the old city walls is breathtaking.

Whether your interests lie in history, museums, art, or gastronomic endeavour, you will find everything and more in the local towns and region. Much of this has been incorporated into a helpful information booklet which you will find at Trullo Bellissimo. However, just to whet your appetite, the whole area has a strong Norman influence dating back to the crusades, when Trani and Brindisi were important embarkation points for the Crusaders, and this can be seen everywhere from the names of towns to the fortified cities and watchtowers intended to repel the Saracen.

Then, of course, there is the sea and beautiful coastline. Only 18km away are the fabulous beaches of the Adriatic. There is a whole coastline (700 miles) to choose from, where there are sandy stretches and rocky coves.

Food-What to say about the food, apart from the fact that it is fabulous. Pugliese dishes will astonish you, and you won't be able to resist their unique, fresh and genuine flavours, in Puglia there's a deep-rooted culinary tradition, composed mostly of simple dishes made with local products.

About Moira Brown

The owners of Trullo Bellissimo are Keith and Moira who live in Somerset, England. who have travelled extensively and lived abroad. Returning from a two year assignment in Asia in 2004, we purchased and renovated a large, 200 hundred old property in the west of England in a rural location where there are only five other homes, surrounded by woodlands and farmland. We have a lunatic English Springer Spaniel ( see picture), who takes full advantage of the woods and fields to chase just about every critter that moves, always without success, I am pleased to stay.

Moira Brown purchased this villa in 2006
Why Moira Brown chose Ostuni

Having travelled to the north of Italy and Rome for many years, Moira read ‘Christ Stopped at Eboli’ by the great physician, painter, parliamentarian and novelist, Carlo Levi, which detailed in such heart-rending prose his internal exile in the south, during the early years of Mussolini, the poverty and humanity of its people. So Moira said, we must go south – I want to meet these people. And so we did.

Here I am six years later and the journey has been awesome. I have neighbours who hug me and treat me as family, a social life that is inexpensive, barely literate craftsmen that fill me with awe, and am surrounded by the silliest, most frustrating but ultimately endearing people that I have met anywhere in the world!

What makes this villa unique

The tranquility and privacy offered by Bellissimo is perfect for just pure relaxation, yet we are only 5 minutes from the stunning old hill town of Ostuni ( La Citta Bianca) and 20 minutes from the wonderful beaches of the Adriatic.

With an outside kitchen and marble table that can easily seat 10 people, entertaining is great fun with, of course, the swimming pool to cool off in on hot days.

We also have about 80 olive trees and do our own olive harvest. This year we picked 2,000 kilos of olives and returned to England with 230 litres of the most wonderful Extra Virgin Olive Oil you could imagine. We always leave samples for our guests so that they can taste oil from our land along with eating olives, figs, pomegranates, quince, strawberries, sun dried tomatoes and more.

The local restaurants serve some of the tastiest and reasonably priced food and local wines, which only adds to the overall experience.

Probably the thing that we enjoy most, is the friendly and warm local Italians, who we have grown to respect and love.

Put this on your bucket list -5 Stars-Trip Advisor

Submitted: August 18, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
We have never stayed in a trullo, we had rented villas around the world, but this is in a class of its own. If you want to experience rustic Italy, not the Tuscan experience, then trullo bellisimmo is for you. I can only describe this property as magical & unique. Moira and kieth have thought of everything for you, every cupboard you open has what you need, and with the support of Jane who lives locally, you cannot go wrong. Jane has all the info and advice you will need for a magical holiday. Even if you don't speak Italian, a smile goes a long way with the locals, when shopping. The local supermarket has an extensive choice including wines from the region. The weather could have been kinder for us, as we were itching to use the pool,I'm sure the neighbors heard my shrieks on my first dip! We had had a crazy two weeks in the UK prior to our week in may, we cannot have asked for a more restful, peaceful, idyllic location, with the amazing white town not far away on the hill. We were happy to cook and enjoy all that was offered at this luxury property. Do your selves a favour put this one on the list and enjoy. Thank you Jane for your friendship and especially to kieth and Moira for having the vision in the first place. Moira all the prior communications with you built the experience before we even arrived. One day i hope we meet in person. You have all made this unforgettable for craig and myself:)
Who knows when our paths will cross again but I'm sure they will somewhere, someday, somehow

Beautiful indeed ( 5 stars-Trip Advisor)

Submitted: August 18, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
Lavender, daisies and butterflies. A wonderful long straight stone walled lane which leads to the house. A monolithic tiled outdoor shower and a huge slabbed outdoor dining table.

An extremely clever garden. Every possible convenience, including insect proof mesh doors and windows. Fabulous decoration. Constant chirping of cicadas.

The kind and generous Jane, who didn’t mind at all when we arrived so late on British Airways, and her gorgeous bread.

Ceglie Messapica-our favourite-like a film set; Cisternino and Ostuni with it’s lovely rose windowed cathedral. We enjoyed them all………

Great pool, bigger than expected, and certainly no heating required during our week!

We will miss the trullo cones shaped like the bishops in a chess game and the whole of the Vale D’itria resembling a chessboard decorated with ‘trulli’ pieces.

Our thanks to Moira & Keith for making it all possible.

We will be back, as Puglia converts

Winter in Puglia

Submitted: January 16, 2012 Stayed: December 2011
We are veteran winter travelers to Italy but normally have stayed in the North ... this time we added a week at Trullo Bellissimo, arriving on New Year's Eve.

The house is about 8 km from the "citta bianca" of Ostuni, filled with interesting sights and good restaurants. It's in an area with many other trull, although most seemed to be empty at this time of year ... that means we got what we wanted, quiet and seclusion in a luxury house. The house is fairly small but very comfortable, with two sitting rooms, two bedrooms, and very modern bathrooms with good water pressure and lots of hot water. The decor is a combination of traditional and Indian-incluence and is quite romantic. The beds are very comfortable as well. The house is very well heated.

But the best part of Trullo Bellissimo is the garden ... the owners have done a magnificent job in designing the garden and pool.

The weather in Puglia winter is cool but the hordes of tourists are nowhere to be seen. It is probably the one time of the year when you can get into restaurants without reservations, see sights without crowds of tourists, and drive unfettered anywhere.

And so, we are already planning our return next winter to TB and Puglia!

Fantastic ( 5 Star Review-Trip Advisor)

Submitted: January 6, 2012 Stayed: July 2011
This really is a beautiful relaxing Trullo with everything you could possibly want. Our stay was brilliant from start to finish, with a lovely welcome pack including fresh flowers, food, olives, wine etc to the well stocked kitchen and utility room, to the beautiful decor and relaxing outside. The location is fantastic, just a 10min drive to the beautiful Ostuni with its lovely restaurants and old winding alleys and roads you really dont need to venture too far out to have everything you could want from visiting south Italy!!!!!!!!!!!
