We are a retired couple enjoying living on the 6 acres with the cabins. Our granddaughter , Shayla, lives with us. I am a retired school teacher and Jim owned a cabinet company and a glass company. Jim built all the cabins on the property and we keep them in good condition and very clean. Ellijay is surrounded by mountains and hiking and tubing and all the outdoor activities of a small mountain and river town.
Sally or Jim Smelcer purchased this cabin in 1995
We are Georgia natives who grew up in Smyrna and came with our families when we were children to Ellijay to get apples and view the leaves in the fall. As adults we continued to visit and in 1994 we decided to find our own get away in beautiful Ellijay. Then in 1995 Jim built this Pondside cabin for added income. We are sure you will enjoy Gilmer county as much as we do. We live on the 6 acres so are available to answer any local questions you may have. We are here in case the gas for the grills give out or any other problem you may have.
We are only a 10 minute drive from Wal Mart and stores surrounding it but still have the seclusion of being on the 6 acres with no other cabins except ours in sight. About 15 miles away is the town of Blue Ridge which has an old locomotive train excursion to another nearby town and back. Ellijay and Blue Ridge are filled with quaint shops and restaurants. You may tube down our creek using our tubes any time. No cost. Be sure to visit Amacalola Falls only 20 minutes away.
We have totally enjoyed our stay with you in the lovely Pondside cabin. We liked it so much we booked it for Christmas!!! We loved the Apple Festival. It was very relaxing and peaceful, Just what we needed.
Thank you very much!
This cabin is amazing. Had a great time with nothing to complain about. Low rates and comfortable stay. Owners were a stones through away which made asking questions simple. Definitely plan on staying again.
We stayed in this sweet cabin during the peak leaf season this year and could not ask for better accommodations. The cabin and hot tub were fresh and clean. We will be back this summer to float down the creek. This cabin is only 15 minutes from shopping but has a secluded feel. The hosts were so friendly yet left us in privacy. We will plan another trip to Forest Cabins soon. Thank you ,Sally and Jim Sincerely, Sam & Jessi
This cabin is perfect for a couple who wants a quiet romantic, getaway. The owners allowed us to bring our dog for a very reasonable fee and they had everything ready for us when we arrived. The cabin is just as described, it is small and cozy with a great view. The internet only works when you're on the top floor, but that wasn't terribly inconvenient. The owners live there on site and are very friendly. You will not regret booking this cabin!
My wife and I had a great time celebrating our 26th anniversary. The couple greeted us when we arrived and informed us of all the local eating places, shopping, and sites we may want to see. We were close enough to Blue Ridge to visit there easily. We loved the isolation of the cabins but at the same time being close enough to get to town in about 10 minutes. We loved the small cozy cabins, hot tub, internet access and the river that ran behind the cabins which we tubed down one day. It was great having a kitchen for snacks, cooking, or just reheating left overs. I would recommend this quiet hide away place to others who are looking for a diamond in the rough. We are already trying to see if we can work in a trip back in the Fall. Loved it much!!!!
We enjoyed our stay in this cabin. It was cozy, cute, and just what we needed for the 2 of us.
what this description doesn't tell you is that this cabin is in a neighborhood. the pictures all show you no other cabins, which we liked, and since we came from the city all we wanted was privacy. but once we got there, we realized that the cabin is in a regular neighborhood, in a cul de sac w/ several other houses feet away. we were not able to let our dog run around b/c everywhere was private property. we also couldn't get the temperature right in the cabin. it became freezing at night, b/c there is no central heat, only fireplace and propane heat i think. we left early, definitely not what we thought...i should have asked about the privacy before hand, i always do this now.
We live on the property in case you have questions or problems. Our home is about 70 ft. from this cabin and there is a cane break between the cabins.
