Monti District: Monti is one of the hidden treasures of the Eternal City. The apartment is perfectly located close to various major sights and in a quaint neighborhood. Spacious and comfortable.
We were a family of six, two adults and four children ranging in age from 16 to 9. There was plenty of room for all of us to be completely comfortable in the living room together. The kitchen is full stocked and the beds extremely comfortable. The location was wonderful! Can't thank Alan and Diane enough for renting out their home so that we could enjoy a little piece of Roma.
I highly recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Rome! Owners Alan and Diane were the perfect hosts, warm, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about all things Roma and Italian. The apartment was modern, beautifully furnished (Diane's photo's of Rome are amazing!), with a lovely, modern kitchen. They have cable (for those rainy days), and internet access that worked perfectly with our cells and computer. The fourth floor location provides beautiful views of Rome, especially from the Den and the Balcony, and the elevator from the ground floor was a great comfort after a full day of exploring the city.
We were a family of five adults, and the apartment served us beautifully. The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of space to "escape" each other for quiet time (The sofa in the den was a favorite spot), and the community space in the living/dining room was perfect for our sized group. We ate at the apartment several times, and the dining table was perfect for us.
The Monti neighborhood is a hidden gem, filled with narrow, cobblestone streets, wonderful restaurants, a good wine/gourmet foods store, small grocery stores, pub, and piazza. It's near the Metro and only one stop away from Roma Termini, so it's easy to travel all over Rome. We took the subway twice to Vatican City and walked back to the apartment, possibly 3-4 miles. Exploring the city this way was magical. It's just a few blocks to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, but the noise and hustle and bustle of those tourist spots does not bleed into the neighborhood. In fact, Monti was very quiet and relaxing.
Our only regret is that we did not have time to tour with Alan or cook with Diane. We'll reserve that for our next visit to Rome.
Worked beautifully for a family of six. Epsteins are the perfect hosts. Home was spacious and comfortable.Convenient to everything. We took a cab one day but only because it was pouring rain. Neighborhood is delightful. Culinary day with DIane and Julian was a hilight for food and great company. Walking day with Allen was like having your favorite history professor walk you around the most beautiful city in the world. The only bad part of our trip was having to leave our pretty apartment behind. Loved everything about it.
We stayed here for my first visit to Rome. The flat is very attractive and quite comfortable; we felt very much at home. We loved being able to see Diane's amazing photography on the walls. The Monti neighborhood, where the flat is located, is exceptional. It is historic, beautiful - and despite being very close to some of the ancient ruins - away from the crowds. We happily walked everywhere. Diane and Alan oriented us quite well to the local markets, shops, restaurants, and cafes. I highly recommend the historical tour with Alan. We also had a great cooking experience with Diane and Julian - loved going with them to the markets - and of course the food afterwards! Diane and Alan were charming hosts. They werehelpful and responsive - even before we arrived. This was a great experience all the way 'round.
We had a wonderful stay at Alan and Diane's flat. The neighborhood is incredible "local" and you really feel immersed from the moment you arrive. The accommodation was huge! We had plenty of space for my 2 sons and my in-laws. Nobody felt on top of anyone. Local restaurants, piazza, sites, were all just steps away from this walking friendly flat. We also had the pleasure of taking our second insider tour with Alan. What an experience that is. Avoid any other tour and spend the bit extra to really immerse yourself in Roman History, Myth, and great conversation. I learned more on Alan's tours than I did in my Ancient Roman History course in college...and it was much more enjoyable!
This 17th century, elegant apartment is a few minutes by foot from the Forum, Quirinale (The Presidential Palace) and the Coliseum, yet set on a quiet, characteristic street between a tranquil seminary and convent, with magnificent views of old Rome. There are dozens of wonderful cafes, wine bars, trattorie, and unique and trendy shops, and a piazza with a fountain and cafes, where locals meet up.
