CHARMING HORSE FARM COUNTRY COTTAGE ON ROLLING HILLS

Suttons Bay Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

Chateau / Country House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

This guest house is at the center of our 21 acre Gentlemen's ranch. While there is not a water view unless you are on top one of our hills, the setting is an idyllic location with panoramic valley and hill views. This house has a warm natural all wood interior with beautiful artwork.

The grounds are professionally landscaped and maintained by the Landscape Architect owner.

There is a large open area that includes a wrap-around leather couch and a loft with two beds along with a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed with an exceptional quality pillow-top mattress. There is plenty of room to park any toys (campers, boats, trailers) right on the property. The owners have a 30 foot sailboat, a 26 foot motorboat and other water toys, so arrangements could be made for their use. If there is a need to stall your horses, or if you want to ride a horse or two, those arrangements can be made as well.

On the property is a large barn, a small barn (both for horses) along with indoor and outdoor riding arenas. Attached to the indoor riding arena is a viewing area with foosball, wifi, cable, leather couches, bathroom, laundry and additional sleeping area in another loft if it is needed.

At night, there is a firepit area to warm up on the cold Northern Michigan nights and we are far enough away from any city so that the panaromic star views are incredible.

We are only 1/2 mile away from the Suttons Bay to Traverse City trail and you could ride bikes/horses snowshoe/hike/cross-country ski in any direction from here and see wonderful water vistas and orchard/hill/valley views.

We are 30 minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the Homestead Resort that has skiing with hills that border on Lake Michigan.

Keywords: Northern Michigan, Suttons Bay, Horse Farm boarding (weekly/monthly) Indoor and Outdoor Riding Arenas, riding trials, Sailing/Power-boat excursions available

Jeff and Debbie live on the property with their daughter Samara. Jeff is an attorney and Debbie is a Landscape Architect who designed the beautiful grounds and maintains them as well. They enjoy the life up North with the opportunity to raise, ride and show horses.

Debbie Slocombe purchased this chateau / country house in 2002

Jeff and Debbie have been coming to the Traverse City/Suttons Bay all of their lives for vacations and decided to move to the area in 1999. They love the location of Suttons Bay because it has all the activities of Traverse City, yet the idyllic lifestyle of a Village just a short distance away.

Our home is just a five minute walk to the beach or a one mile bike ride/hike to Suttons Bay. The TART trail (Rails to Trails Suttons Bay to Traverse City) makes it a 13 mile bike ride to Traverse City.

You can bring your own bikes or borrow our tandem to ride into the Village for a nice breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Because we are on 21 acres surrounded by much more open area, you will not be constricted to a small area.

My husband and I just arrived at home and I couldn't wait to thank Jeff and Debbie for a wonderful winter weekend. We had been "shopping" on VRBO for a place to stay that would not drain our savings since we had a son get married last year and a daughter getting married this year. We have a strict policy that we do not stay in hotels; we love rentals that have a unique personality. This place met all of our requirements! We were a little leery of the rental being close to the main house because we are kind of reclusive :). But, it was totally private; we could come and go as we pleased (which we did many times). And, an advantage of the owners being next door is that the driveway and walks were always shoveled and cleaned for us, right up to the door! We were encouraged and invited to walk around the barns and admire the happy, well-loved horses. I LOVE horses and was so tempted to pet them, but I obeyed the rules:) We did stop and say good-bye to them before we left, though. As I stated, we came and left many times to do various touristy things, and every time we came back my husband would say "This is all I need!" It felt like coming home; it was that cozy! We jokingly referred to the couch as the "Butter Couch" because every time we sat down, we felt like we were melting into it. My husband said, "We have to get one of these." Thank you again, Jeff and Deb, for a perfect and beautiful weekend. Thank you for sharing your property with us.

Cozy Winter Oasis

This country cottage was the PERFECT place to spend a winter weekend! I took my boyfriend here to surprise him for his 30th birthday, and we couldn't have asked for a better place to call home for a few days. The cottage was spotless, bright and airy, and smelled like cedar. Interior decor was very charming which made the cottage feel cozy and welcoming. One of the home owners, Jeff, even shoveled the walkway for us before we left to head home. The farm grounds are absolutely beautiful, and we loved just walking around in the sparkling snow to watch the horses in the pastures and play with the spunky German Shepherd puppy (resident of the farm). My boyfriend told me it was the BEST vacation and birthday present ever! Thank you Debbie and Jeff for a wonderful, relaxing stay!

Refreshing Getaway

My husband and I were in desperate need of a getaway and this charming country house was perfect for what we needed. The whole place was clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable. The shower had lots of hot water and good water pressure. We loved having a place to relax, play games, and drink wine in the evenings at the kitchen table. We also loved having a couch to veg out on. Usually we stay in hotels and have to sit on the bed, but having our own living space was so nice! Each morning I would wake up and stare out of the bedroom window at the horses and fields. Living in a large city, I welcomed this view! The kitchen was perfect for us. It was stocked with dishes and glasses, a small fridge and microwave, and silverware. We didn't cook at the house, but it had a toaster and a small electric skillet that you could make some simple meals on if you wanted.

The house is close to any of the places you'd want to go around Traverse City or the Leelanau Peninsula. Sleeping Bear Dunes was maybe a 20-30 minute drive away. The 20+ wineries on the peninsula are anywhere from a 3-20 minute drive. Suttons Bay has a cute downtown area with some great restaurants and bakeries for meals. TC is about a 15 minute drive.

Debbie and Jeff were very friendly and helpful. I texted and talked with Debbie a couple of times to get some suggestions of places to go in the area. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet her since she was out of town when we were there. I appreciated that they made it known that they were both there if we needed them (in person or via text) but let us do our own thing while they did theirs.

I would definitely recommend this place while you're visiting this area! It has a great location, space, and price, especially compared to some of the other hotels and B&B around the area. Don't hesitate to book a stay at this beautiful cottage!

Very nice and very very clean. Jeff the owner stopped by once to make sure evrything was good which it was. There was a bottle of wine waiting to be enjoyed which we did. There is a very friendly very active puppy running around who will be sure to put a smile on your face. The horses are very nearby to watch. Very close to town and great location for wine tours. Only "down side" is it has a small fridge, microwave and hotplate but no stove / oven so eating out often should be planned. The one thing I would suggest adding is a iron and ironing board. We would stay there again without hesitation.

Our 4th trip to the Leelanau Peninsula area and most definitely our favorite place to stay. A comfortable little cottage with everything we needed to make our stay most enjoyable. Absolutely loved this location...15 minutes and you can be at the lighthouse at the end of the peninsula...or 15 minutes and you can be in Traverse City. We will most definitely be revisiting this property on our next trip to the Leelanau Peninsula!
