Come see why America chose Sleeping Bear Dunes as the most beautiful place in America ! It starts right here at M-22 and the Famous Lazy Ride down South Platte River . It is IMPOSSIBLE to remember the stresses of every day life while you are here !

Up until now it has been called 'The best kept Secret in Benzie County !' In fact a lot of the locals aren't too happy about the publicity ! They know what a rare gem they have had hiding here !

Seeing is believing and I promise you won't be disappointed when you see all this incredible area has to offer ! The Floor plan is very versatile (Total Space over 2000 sq ft w/finished lower level that has 4 ft by 4 ft windows !) and easy to group people together in many different sleeping arrangements, especially with all of the extra space in the brand new finished basement.. But please feel comfortable here ! We have a nice place but it is for vacationing ! Relax ! No fine art Pieces to worry about breaking. This is a place where everybody should feel welcome ! This is not an area filled with tons of shops and tourist traps and trinkets ! Natural Beauty Abounds everywhere and is FREE !

We headed north on one summer vacation many years ago and fell in love with those towering dunes perched along the Northwest side of Lake Michigan towering out from above the edges of the Forests below. This is paradise and we have never grown tired of exploring, walking a new trail or finding a new beach. Traveling just 10 minutes a little more north,south,east or west, whichever way you choose, there is always something new and amazing to discover in this Peninsula.

From your lazy trip down The South Platte River to The infamous Dune Climb up by Glen Lakes.

Don't forget to go to Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive for the most dramatic overlook in America ! Take your time there. Dont rush.

So. Here is our Dream. There is more than enough room and privacy for a small Family Reunion, (we have two full baths and a new finished basement ) or just a quiet getaway for two. The layout is very flexible and acomidate, yet modern. The location (right across from the famous South Platte River) is excellent !

Any sunny afternoon to explore the area is good for a quiet country drive down the meandering roads between the historical farmsteads of Port Onieda only to discover another stretch of private seemingly untouched beach all to yourself that goes

on for miles and miles...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh ! And then there are the Sunsets.............

My Family and I have been looking for that special place to get away from the stresses of every day life for a long time. We knew that we wanted to be close to the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and knew immediately when we found this property, that this was the location we were looking for. As a kid I have great memories camping all over the State of Michigan my whole life, but, ironically, we had never ventured this far. None of them come close to comparing to this area. We are now creating awesome memories with our kids now that we have found our 'favorite spot' in the State.We hope that you enjoy our Sanctuary half as much as we do !

Why Michele Blair chose Honor

We chose this specific area because it is centrally located in the middle of the most naturally beautiful places in the state of Michigan. The Wine tours are amazing and just minutes away. From North Port all of the way down to Elberta there are so many unique and beautiful places to discover ! My Family and I have been coming up here to this area for about ten years now and can never seem to get enough of it each time we come. Its surrounding towns are so interesting and have fun little shops and different beaches to explore. Did I mention it? We LOVE the beaches here ! As beautiful as it is, it never seems to be so crowded that it is a tourist trap of some kind. No huge shopping Malls with all the fast food. Its still a very quaint and low key vacation area to forget about all your daily stress back home, but still boasts of many little shops with very interesting items to mark your memorable time here.

What makes this house unique

You can drive 20 minutes in any direction and see something new each and every time ! SERIOUSLY. South Platte River is across the street so you can drop your canoe, kayak, aka any flotation device, and be in Lake Michigan within a few hours. There is always somewhere new to discover, (another fossil to find) I cannot even count the number of beaches that we have found from the many inland lakes to all around the coast of Michigan to the several Islands (a couple we haven't even gotten to yet !) there are Ferries going to them on a regular schedule-all info is at the 'cabin.' There is so much natural beauty to see in so many different spots that this has been voted as 'THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN AMERICA.

House is BRAND NEW so only begining landscaping -but a very good start. ..Very private setting outside with a great fire pit area for roasting those marshmallows in the evening. We also have dozens of tubes and rafts and 4 kayaks(2 flat top and 2 ride ins ) that go with the rental of the home. Please do your best to take care of them !; )

We had a wonderful time here. The house was beyond our expectation. It was nice, clean, spacious and very organized. It was a little cold in the basement though. It would be even better if there was a bathroom @ the basement. It would be more fun in summer time as there were water activities nearby.

We really appreciate and thanks so much for the Pet friendly policy and the nice amenities. This property is perfect for a family vacation or a reunion event.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you enjoyed your stay at Christmas Break. Chrystal Mountain is only about a half hour south of us for skying and snowboarding and lots of other wintertime fun. We are planning a bathroom addition in the basement as soon as the funds permit. Two bathrooms are a stretch for a large group so we understand the urgency if you are planning a Family Reunion again. So happy you still enjoyed all we have to offer. We try and add some extra treats, supplies and goodies to make it a memorable vacation for your Family and/or Friends. This is a brand new house and our first year renting. We plan on adding more features to continue and make our home a relaxing and rejuvinating Getaway to creat memories that your Family and Friends will remember for many years to come.

Great Value and Great Fun for all Ages

My family was looking for a vacation rental that would accomodate my young family of three children, my brothers family with two teenagers and my parents. This home fits the bill. It is big! The location is not on the water, but it is within minutes of several beaches, tourist attractions, local towns and it is literally a block from the canoe rental where you can slowly float down Platt River into Lake Michigan. We all had a great time. There is enough to do to keep you busy everyday or you can take a day off and just relax. And when you are done for the day there is plenty of space so you don't feel like you are camping! We plan to make this an annual vacation spot!!! Finally, the Owners of this home are very responsive and have been great to work with. I would not hesitate to book this one for your family!

Great Weekend!

This property was perfect for a Labor Day weekend getaway! Close to all of the things we love to do, like kayak, hang at the beach, walk in the woods, etc. The house was very clean and neat, and it was cozy and comfortable. We hated to leave! Owners were very nice and accomodating. It was so great to be able to bring our small dogs on vacation with us! That made our weekend complete!

Best way to enjoy Sleeping Bear area!

What an outstanding vacation rental! We only spent a weekend this time, but found this home to be so very comfortable and accomodating! Along with its top-notch amenities, this home is located perfectly among the multiple sites and activites in the area - we could not have chose a better place to stay! In our short time there, we were able to enjoy the beautiful beach sunsets, shopping and an absolutely perfect kayak trip down the Platte - Oh how I wish we had longer to enjoy! We WILL be back again, and we WILL stay longer!
I would also like to add that I cannot say enough about the local livery / store, just a short trip down the quiet street. Though we used the kayaks provided by the homeowner, the local livery provided top notch service with their shuttle and all of the last-minute items we needed for a perfect trip.
Do not hesitate to set a time for this rental - but I would suggest you do it soon. As people find out about this jem of the area, we all may have to plan a little further ahead! Five Stars and hats off to the homeowner, they have done a great job with every detail of this rental!

Special Celebrations

My husband and I were looking for a place to celebrate two very special occasions. First, our daughter's boyfriend was going to propose and my parents were going to be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We needed a place that could accommodate a large group of our family members with things to interest a very wide age range.
We couldn't have been happier. We loved kayaking and floating on the river in the evenings after days at the beach. We took advantage of the great bike trails in the areas surrounding the house. We felt completely at home watching the Olympics together in the living room, cooking together in the kitchen, playing games or eating at the kitchen table, playing ping pong in the basement, or roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. The beds were very comfortable - that is really important to me. Who wants to struggle sleeping on vacation!?
The house is SURROUNDED by the most beautiful scenery in the nation! It was great to be so close to so many great things to see and do! We hated to leave - the week went by far too quickly.
