SECLUDED CABIN 50 MIN. FROM GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE

Cornwall Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bath, sleeps 6 (4 adults and 2 kids max)

Completely secluded cabin in the woods on 5 acres of land surrounded by a nature preserve. Walk out the door to hiking trails, waterfall, cross-country skiing (weather permitting).

A nature-lovers paradise in every season. Deer are spotted regularly and occasionally one may hear of a bear sighting. Plus there is a Fox den just around the bend.

Down the road from Museum of the Hudson Highlands and Jones Farm.

Art lovers are minutes from Storm King Art Center and a short drive from DIA Beacon.

A vacation paradise in every season.

Commutable to NYC by train to Hoboken or Express bus to Port Authority.

Owner Profile: This is our third year renting out our cabin. We've enjoyed it tremendously over the past 20 years but our schedules are making it difficult to make it up every weekend as we use to.

We hope you get as much enjoyment out of this special place as we have over the years.

I chose this location because of the outstanding beauty and seclusion of the property. The close proximity to NYC was a fabulous addition to this charming getaway.

You will not believe that a house so situated close to NYC can possibly be this secluded and beautiful.

The mile long dirt road bordering a nature preserve makes you feel like you are vacationing miles from civilization.

The beauty of this property is that you feel cut off but you are not. If you so desire there are restaurants, movie theaters, transportation to the city and the Hudson River all within a 15 minute drive.

The Storm King Art Center is just down the road.

Hiking just out the front door and cross country skiing during the snowy winter months.

A stroll down the wooded dirt road is a perfect way to start and/or end your day.

Enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I just wanted to Thank You so much for renting us your lovely cabin in the woods. What a magical place. We were lucky enough to be able to stay there at Christmas this past year and the cabin and grounds couldn't have been nicer. The Christmas tree, fireplace and the building were all covered in lights and beautifully decorated. We spent many evenings either next to the great fireplace or out on the deck watching the sun set behind the pines.

The cabin had everything we needed so we took advantage of the kitchen and prepared some lovely meals at home.

The bedrooms were clean and neat and we slept like babies.

Needless to say we were totally relaxed and our 3 day stay ended way too soon.

We well be back as soon as we can.

Thanks again

Perfect family time

  • 5 of 5
The cabin and its location are perfect! Isolated enough to enjoy a calm setting in the woods but close to a lot of activities for everybody (in our case, with 2 young children). From the beautiful waterfall (very close) to Storm King to John's farm where you can enjoy treats and animal petting, it was great.
The cabin itself is a great mix of a older time place mix with a modern set up (wifi,...).
If you have a car, shopping is also pretty close.
In addition, big thanks to the owners to make everything easy and clear. Very helpful!
In short, a highly recommended place.

Cozy and definitely feel you are away!

  • 4 of 5
Yup, saw a bear while bbq'ing! And deer and turkey. It was great to be really "away". Got to relax. Cabin was as pictured and instructions provided in the cabin were very clear. Loved playing Ella and Etta on the outdoor speakers while grilling. And Storm King is a stone's throw away and rocks. I will definitely visit again!

Pleasant stay

  • 3 of 5
i appreciated the ease of renting the cabin and the fantastic location to West Point and the quaint towns along the Hudson. The area is beautiful and well worth the trip. The description of the cabin was very accurate and the amenities were plentiful. The property is well maintained and clean and the few neighbors that passed the cabin were very kind and welcoming.

Perfect family get-away

  • 4 of 5
The cabin is very personal, you really feel that this is an often used and loved place. It's small inside but has absolutely everything you need: my kids loved playing with the toys, the adults loved sitting on the candle-lit deck at night. The garden and trees around are great; the nearby farms, stables, Dia Beacon and Storm King sculpture park make for easy trips out. The owners are really responsive to questions and want to ensure a good visit. All this and an easy drive from Manhattan. We will be back!

Hilton prices - Motel 8 experience

  • 1 of 5
I've rented apartments in Paris and truly rustic cabins in the Berkshires through Homeaway and always been pleased - until now. I booked four nights over July 4 holiday for me and my dog.
I arrived to find a musty cabin with a chemical/flowery smell that was pervasive throughout. There was also a sign on a cabinet in the kitchen that said "Please be aware! We do have bear in the area. Don't leave any food or garbage outside...ever! Keep the grill clean. If you see a bear, make noise - hit some pots and pans together or clap hands. They don't want you, they want the food. This doesn't mean that you can't eat on the deck but you must clear the food away when you come in."
The owners knew I was bringing my dog but failed to mention bears until I saw this note, which meant I couldn't let the dog out unsupervised.
To me, the overall appearance of the cabin wasn't quaint or charming, but shabby. I didn't spend an hour there, between that, the smell (which stayed in my nostrils for hours after I'd left) and the threat of bear.
I chalked up the loss to a lesson learned but did email the owners with my complaints, and they did call to talk about it. Not sure what talking about any of those situations would have changed.
In regard to the bear, they said they hadn't seen a bear in three years and their dog is there regularly . They may want to change the warning on the cabinet then.
In regard to the smell, they said no one else had noticed it. What would I have to gain by making that up?!
They did give me a small refund not even equal to one night. Big deal.
Book at your own risk. After reading the other reviews about this place, maybe my expectations are just too high.

Owner's Response: This review is very upsetting to us because we want our guests to have only the best experience while staying at our cabin.

We too stay in other’s homes during our vacations. We understand that the experience is a subjective one in regard to each property.

In our opinion, and the opinions of the majority of our guests, our little cabin in the woods is both “quaint and charming”. The natural setting is one of our home’s greatest assets. It is secluded and abundant in foliage and nature and the presence of wildlife (fox, raccoon, bear, deer etc.) in the area is something that is always shared with our prospective guests.

We speak to all prospective guests on the phone in advance to discuss their expectations and desires and to be sure that they are truly looking for the experience that our secluded cabin surrounded by nature preserve offers.

Regarding wildlife and bear, it is true that if you leave food outside overnight you may get a critter visitor such as a raccoon, possum or bear. These days, this is a reality even in the suburbs.

Also, any house that is closed for a period of time can become stuffy, windows being opened for a lovely cross breeze is the remedy especially when it has rained for eight days like it did in early July.

This cabin is our home. We have many glowing reviews and all of these folks seem to love the space and the natural setting. Many of our guests return year after year.

If there are any issue or concerns, big or small, we ask that our guests please send a simple text or call us.

We want everyone who stays in our home to be comfortable and well taken care of during their stay.

This cabin was much prefered for our West Point family over hotel rooms. We had room to be together while still be near WP. I wanted to find something on the same side of the Hudson and we were about 15 minutes from WP. And we weren't far from Garrison to catch the train into NYC. Just great. The deck was a great place for our graudation celebration. I kept thinking how cozy this cabin would be in the winter with a fire in the lovely fireplace.

I wish we'd have known about this cabin for other WP visits. The owners were great to talk with prior to our visit. Very helpful. I will certainly be sharing this place with other WP parents.
