We recently stayed at White Caps 8 and had a wonderful time. The cottage was lovely, quiet and amenities as advertised. My husband and I spend many afternoons on the beach and biking all over the island. We enjoyed the beach view out the front windows and found the whole cottage comfortable and homey. Grill out back is one of the baby Weber grills, so don't think you are going to be doing a big meal on there - we ended up only using it once. Some beach chairs, etc. on the front porch. Found the White Caps group of cottages to be very friendly and welcoming. This isn't the place you want to book if you want all the resort amenities (pool, tennis courts, etc.), but if what you want is a safe, quiet, respite away from your regular cares, and super easy access to the best beach around, this is your place. We would absolutely come back.
My only comment, and I hesitate to mention it because it didn't really affect our visit negatively, but it might be useful information for anyone planning a trip, is that since the house doesn't come with beach towels we arranged in advance to rent beach towels through the management company (Royal Shell, $2.50 per week) which sounded like the perfect deal. We arrived on island and were told that the towels were in the unit, and then charged for them. Got to the unit Saturday evening, no towels. Management office closed. Emergency number (I realize this is hardly an emergency, but it was the only number I had) told us they would try to get someone out with towels. No towels, no phone call. We bought towels on Sunday. No phone call back even on Monday, until I called them. No apologies, just "are you sure you didn't miss them?" Believe me, the cottage isn't that big. They did refund our money. Let me reiterate - I'm just relaying this so anyone booking can be aware in terms of their own planning and follow-up.
Weather was perfect, and everyone we encountered on the island was friendly and helpful. White Caps is in a good location, just 2 miles by bike to the grocery store, and most of the island shopping. We also spent a great day biking the Ding Darling trail - marvelous bird watching. Highly recommend it, and we hope to come back.
